(Started February 27th, 2019) Poignant and Melancholy Songs

Hello,

With the death of a close dog friend of mine yesterday, I was in a melancholy mood. I found a bunch of songs that fit with that mood. However as I was writing a blog about great songs about animals, none of them fit. One song I was tempted to add to that blog was "Cats In The Cradle", but that song isn't about animals at all.

But that song partially inspired this blog and thus is the first video on it. There are some bands, Arcade Fire, Pink Floyd, that could fill up this blog with just their songs. But I wanted to share videos from a bunch of bands. Thus here's this blog.

I thought that this song was much longer. 1) Harry Chapin "Cats In The Cradle":

2) Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here":

3) Goo Goo Dolls "Black Balloon":

86 million views for a lyric video, that shows the power of this amazing song. 4) Don McLean "American Pie":

5) Fleetwood Mac "Landslide":

6) Peter Schilling "Major Tom (Coming Home)":

7) Simon & Garfunkel "The Sounds of Science":

8) U2 "One":

(Finished February 26th, 2019) Best Songs About Animals: Goodbye Cody

Hello,

It was a very sad day for themusicaddict today, a good old dog friend of mine was laid to rest today. Cody, everybody's loving, cuddly friend died today. Although I haven't been able to see him much the last several years I enjoyed the times I got to see him. He was just a big loving dog. Cody, I love you and I miss you. I hope to see you again in the next life when we are both in better health.

These are actually songs about animals, not an animal being used in place of person. Although "Hound Dog" is a great song, it's not actually about a dog.

"Feed Jake":

Lobo "Me And You and a Dog Named Boo":

A fictional dog, but a dog nonetheless. The Royal Guardsmen "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron":

Patti Page "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window":

Carrie Underwood "The More Boys I Meet":

Michael Martin Murphey "Wildfire":

Pearl Jam "Rats":

Hello,

I was looking for inspiration to find a blog topic that's appropriate on the Sabbath. Looking through today's paper, shout out to the Salt Lake Tribune, I stumbled across their monthly magazine Valor. In there they have a feature about the power of music. They have selected 5 songs each from World War 1 to the Afghanistan War. The Afghanistan War started in 2001 and unbelievably 18 years later is still ongoing.

I've already done similar blogs for the Vietnam War, so I won't be writing that blog again. I'll do this blog and see if I'll so any other blogs for any other wars.

(Finished March 2nd, 2019) 1979's Best Songs, Part 1: Songs 1-18

Hello,

Forty years ago was some of the greatest music ever, I'm going to post some of the greatest songs from the year.

One reason music was so much better back in the day was there were so many classic songs from multiple genres. Let's take 1979 for instance, it was the year for Disco. Not only were there some one hit wonders in the Disco genre, for instance Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell". But there were also some more established Disco artists that had big years, for instance Donna Summer. But also 1979 is the year of sappy sad songs- songs like Robert John's "Sad Eyes". But there were also a lot of rock bands that had great songs that year, for instance Led Zeppelin's "Fool In The Rain". However 1979 was also the year of Anne Murray, Blondie, The Commodores and Abba. So just off the top of my head these were some of the classics from rock, pop and disco. 1979 was also the year that Rap and Hip Hop got it's "first commercially successful hip hop song", which was The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight".  (Thanks to Wikipedia.)

I'm going to start off with six of the biggest songs of 1979.

1) Blondie "Heart of Glass":

For a one hit wonder, this song has had a long pop culture shelf life.
2) Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive":

16) Michael Jackson "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough":

17) Herb Alpert "Rise":

Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer 18) "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)":
