(Finished May 15th, 2025) Part 2 of The Best Songs of The Vietnam Era 1965-1975

Hello,

Out of great darkness can come some great art. I've long been very interested in the Vietnam War , that and World War 2 are two of the most interesting times in our history. In my interest in the Vietnam War I've been reading Karl Marlantes' "Matterhorn". This is set in 1969 Vietnam and it follows several soldiers and the life they live in the mud, rain and bullets of Vietnam.

Tonight I watched the movie "The Greatest Beer Run". The movie starts off as a frolic, but Zac Efron's character sees the brutal reality of the Vietnam War when he's out on the greatest beer run. Including seeing that sometimes our government lies to us. This movie is so much more realistic, gritty and entertaining than I expected.

I know that Vietnam for America started for America in about 1954 when America had to come and save the French in Dien Bien Phu. I just picked a random timeframe for this blog series.

I don't think one can ever have an idea of the horror and misery of the Vietnam War unless you were there. However I think these two pop culture experiences, especially "Matterhorn", can at least give you a taste of this brutal experience. Many of these songs have nothing to do with the Vietnam War, they were just released while the war was going on.

I took these songs from iwannabejimmorrison's list on rateyourmusic.com, other websites and I also used my own brain cells.
