(Finished November 28th 2023) Part 6 of Songs That Meant Something To Me In The 80s, Songs 86-102

Hello,

Currently I'm working at Lowes and they're another store that plays a preponderance of 80s music. As an old fogie and a member of Generation X I love 80s music. Two of the better songs that were played were Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" and Fleetwood Mac's "Hold Me".

The 80s also had some great funky songs, here's a sampling:
86) The Gap Band "You Dropped A Bomb On Me":

87) Rick James "Super Freak":

88) George Clinton "Atomic Dog":

89) Mary Jane Girls "In My House":

90) Kool and The Gang "Get Down On It":

(Finished November 24th, 2023) Part 2 of the Best of Reggae Music

Hello,

I love Bob Marley but I know very few other reggae songs. I thought I should do a few of these blogs to expand my knowledge. I wasn't real urgent in expanding my knowledge as this is my first of these blogs in almost a year.

As a mostly novice person to reggae music I pretty much know Bob Marley and the Wailers. I know that's a great start but probably even less than the tip of the iceberg.

I don't know accurate this movie will be, but a Bob Marley movie is coming to your nearest movie theatre. You will probably wait until it hits your television, isn't that we all do with movies now? This is the trailer for the "One Love" movie about the great Bob Marley:

These next three songs are by Bob Marley and the Wailers. 18) "Is This Love":

19) "Could You Be Loved":

20) "Rastaman Live Up":

21) Shaggy featuring Rayvon "In The Summertime":

22) Maxi Priest "Close To You":

I don't know if a reggae purist would find this a true reggae song. 23) UB40 "Red Red Wine":

24) Damian Marley "We're Gonna Make It":

25) Culture "Why Am I A Rastaman":

26) Inner Circle "Bad Boys":

27) Shaggy "Oh Carolina":

28) Soul 2 Soul "Back To Life (However You Want Me)":

29) UB40 "I Can't Help Falling In Love":

30) Sinead O'Connor "Prophet Has Arise":

31) Bob Marley "Positive Vibration":

32) Bunyfan "Banana Republic":

I have "Funky Reggae Party" and "I Shot The Sheriff" on blog #1. These next two songs are by Bob Marley and the Wailers. 33) Bob Marley "Rebel Music":

34) "Trenchtown Rock":

(Finished February 24th, 2023) Pre-Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page Music (From Session Work to the Yardbirds)

Hello,

Jimmy Page is the legendary guitarist, producer and songwriter for the worlds all-time greatest band, the mighty Led Zeppelin. Later he went on to work with Robert Plant (again), David Coverdale, The Black Crowes, Paul Rodgers, Tony Franklin and Puff Daddy?

But before that he was a renowned session player, doing session work with Joe Cocker, Shirley Bassey, Petula Clark, Lulu and Donavon. He also recorded with The Yardbirds right before forming Led Zeppelin.

For more information you can go to jimmypage.com, Wikipedia or any of the many biographies of Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. I strongly suggest either Stephen Davis' "Hammer of The Gods" or Mick Wall "When Giants Walked The Earth". Both are quite good.

1) Joe Cocker "With A Little Help From My Friends":

2) Shirley Bassey "Goldfinger":

3) Petula Clark "Downtown":

4) Them "Baby Please Don't Go":

5) Nico "The Last Mile":

If you had told me this song title, I would have said that sounds like a Led Zeppelin song.6) Marianne Faithfull "In My Time of Sorrow":

7) Donovan "Sunshine Superman":

8) Lulu "I'll Come Running Over":

9) Donovan "Season of The Witch":

That's a much better song than I expected and Jimmy is a much better singer than I expected. 10) Jimmy Page "She Just Satisfies":

These next several songs are songs Page recorded with the Yardbirds:

11) "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago":

12) "Psycho Daisies":

13) "Little Games":

14) "Puzzles":

This song is much better than the title suggests. 15) Ha! Ha! Said The Clown":

No this isn't written by Agatha Christie. 16) "Ten Little Indians":

17) "Drinking Muddy Water":

18) "Goodnight Sweet Josephine":

19) "Think About It":

Of the Yardbirds/ Jimmy Page songs this is one of my favorites. 20) "Stroll On":

This, at least at the beginning, is an example of something Jimmy would include with his work of Led Zeppelin. 21) "White Summer":

22) "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor":

23) "Little Soldier Boy":

Hello,

How do the live recordings from Guns N' Roses "Use Your Illusion" Super Deluxe sound. Are they worth $40 to get the digital version. I'm going to pick a random selection of songs and see if it's worth it.

Hello,

I started this blog almost four years ago and I'm now finishing it today.

As I say a lot there are a lot of great songs out there. You just have to know where to look. Look in the right places and you will find plenty of great songs. A lot of the most popular songs that are out now aren't songs that I'm much interested in. However I wanted to find the good songs. I love music, sort of meh on hip hop but I do love rock and roll. These songs do tend to be mostly rock songs.

(Finished November 19th, 2023) The Best Songs of the 50s, Part 2: Songs 18-34

Hello,

Last night I watched the fantastic movie "Hearts In Atlantis". I read the story previously and loved it, just one of the many works of Stephen King that's so amazing. However there are some weird elements in the novella "Low Men In Yellow Coats" that I knew would probably be in the movie. Those weird elements are easier to handle when reading them rather than watching them. Anyway I decided to watch "Hearts In Atlantis" yesterday and it was so good, I cried at the end like a baby. King is the master storyteller of our day, his characters are so fantastic and well written.

Anyway the acting this this movie was fantastic. Anthony Hopkins doing a great job is a given. But I also want to give a shout out to David Morse, one of the great character actors of our day. Also Anton Yelchin (R.I.P.) and Mika Boorem were fantastic. Hope Davis did a good job too, but I hated the character she played.

Anyway one thing about the works of Stephen King is his inclusion of great songs, this movie captures so many of the great songs of the 50s. I thought it was time to post another blog of the best of 50s music.

18) Gogi Grant "The Wayward Wind":

19) Tennessee Ernie Ford "Sixteen Tons":

20) Jimmie Rodgers "Honeycomb":

(Finished November 16th, 2023) Part 10 of Gen Z Loves the 90s Country Classics, So Do I

Hello,

This is the first blog of this series I've done in over two years.

I have labeled some of these songs as best of the best, the 90s was a tremendous decade for country music. As usual I don't just post the hits, I post the best country songs of that decade.

RollingStone.com has a big article about Generation Z is loving 90s country. Here's the article : https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/nineties-country-blowing-gen-z-142735025.html

From the article:

But the Nineties country resurgence isn’t limited to Spotify. Apple Music, Amazon Music and Pandora have all realized the demand for the subgenre and curated their own Nineties country playlists. Today’s Nashville stars have taken note as well: For the past few years, artists like Luke Combs, Jon Pardi, Carly Pearce, Hailey Whitters, and Midland have been mining the sound, songwriting, and even style of the decade to great success. Blake Shelton based his entire Friends and Heroes Tour around celebrating veterans like John Anderson and Tracy Byrd. And when Joe Diffie, a Nineties icon with hits like “John Deere Greene” and “Pickup Man,” died in March 2020 from Covid-19, our remembrance of Diffie was one of Rolling Stone’s most-read stories ever.

Just an amazing song. The lyrics are great, the music is great and Natalie Maines mournful vocals win the day. This could be as close as one gets to a perfect song. Easily one of the best of the best. 153) The Chicks "You Were Mine";

This is one of those songs that slips through the cracks, but every time I hear it I love it. Best of the best. 154) John Conlee "She Can't Say That Anymore":

155) Eddie Rabbit "You and I":

Best of the best. 156) Patty Loveless "I'm That Kind of Girl":

157) Toby Keith "Should've Been A Cowboy":

158) Restless Heart "Let The Heartache Ride Tonight":

159) John Michael Montgomery "I Swear":

This may or may not be my favorite Garth song, I love the lyrics so much. Best of the best. 160) Garth Brooks "Unanswered Prayers":

Best of the best. 161) Ricky Van Shelton "Somebody Lied":

162) John Michael Montgomery "I Can Love You Like That":

163) Faith Hill "It Matters To Me":

164) Clint Black "Loving Blind":

165) Garth Brooks "One Night A Day":

166) "If There Hadn't Been You":

167) Alan Jackson "Midnight In Montgomery":

168) Randy Travis "Heroes and Friends":

169) Hank Williams Jr. "Ain't Nobody's Business":

(Finished November 15th, 2023) Part 1 of Let's Explore Rock Pasta's 10 Obscure Hair Metal Bands

Hello,

I'm working on a series of blogs trying to figure out which year was the best year for hair metal between 1983-1992. To complete those blogs though I want to add obscure hair metal bands that maybe should be remembered. I Googled this and came up with Rock Pasta's 10 Best Forgotten Hair Metal Bands:

https://rockpasta.com/10-best-forgotten-hair-metal-bands/#:~:text=10%20Best%20Forgotten%20Hair%20Metal%20Bands%201%201.,the%20signature%20sex-anthem%20%E2%80%9CCherry%20Pie%E2%80%9D.%20...%20More%20items

I plan on posting two songs for each band, but if that band has more great songs I'll add those as well. I'm going to also add the band Heaven's Edge, which I read a very enthusiastic review for yesterday. Rock Pasta included Warrant in the those forgotten hair metal bands, I don't think they're obscure at all. Thus I will not be featuring them hear. But if you want to listen to some great Warrant music check out "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich". For much the same reason I will not be including Ratt below.

Most hair metal fans should know this power ballad. This is a great band, but I'm not overwhelmed by much of their discography. 1) Kix "Don't Close Your Eyes":

"Cold Blood":

3) "Get It While It's Hot":

This is an interesting song for a hair metal band to cover. 2) Precious Metal "Mr. Big Stuff":

"Right Here, Right Now":

3) Enuff Z'Nuff This is another fairly well known hair metal power ballad "Fly High Michelle":

"New Thing":

"Mother's Eyes":

This band sounds like they're trying to be a band that sounds like Cinderella, if only they had a female singer. 4) Smashed Gladys "Legs Up":

This song takes over two minutes to kick in, but then it reaches the next level. Just remember not everyone has as powerful voice that Robert Plant does. "Eye of the Storm":

I like this song also. "Black Beauties & Blue Eyed Beauties":

I would like to visit Angel City someday, is it located near Paradise City? 5) Von Groove "Angel City":

"Once In A Lifetime":

"Two Nights In Tokyo":

6) Child's Play "Rat Race":

Sadly not the greatest sound for these songs. "Good Old Rock and Roll/ Long Way":
