(Started December 31st, 2022) Part 1 of The Best Rock Love Songs

Hello,

For those of you, my fellow travelers, who have no idea to be out and about on this New Year's Eve night.

What is both the best and worst thing in life? What is the thing that can take you to the greatest heights but also make you feel the lowest of the low? Well of course it's love. There are all sorts of love: romantic, love of a friend, love of children, love of self and love of one's country. Sometimes love isn't even love, the word love can be a stand by for other things. Many times in modern pop culture when people say love they mean sex. Love is a chameleon, a changeling- sometimes from second to second- love is dirty, love is pure, love is the worst, love is the best.

Thanks to the following website for the below quotes: https://www.livingly.com/Quotes+You'll+Love/articles/ko9HDrCgUnj/50+Best+Love+Quotes+Time#:~:text=The%2050%20Best%20Love%20Quotes%20Of%20All%20Time,someone%20deeply%20gives%20you%20courage.%22%20...%20More%20items

"You can't blame gravity for falling in love." — Albert Einstein

"Have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time." — Maya Angelou

"A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved." — Kurt Vonnegut

"I hope you find love. But more importantly, I hope you are strong enough to walk away from what love isn't." — Tiffany

Tomiko

Tennyson's famous quote is ”Tis better to have loved and lost, / Than never to have loved at all”. That's debatable after a bad breakup. However it's also 100% true when first tasting the feelings of love.

This is one of the most asked questions about love. 1) Whitesnake "Is This Love";

2) Heart "Alone":

3) Foreigner "I Want To Know What Love Is":

4) Bon Jovi "I'll Be There For You":

5) The Scorpions "Still Loving You":

I've always considered the great Tina Turner to be a rock goddess. 6) Tina Turner "What's Love Got To Do With It":

7) Guns N' Roses "November Rain":

8) Def Leppard "Love Bites":

9) Van Halen "Can't Stop Loving You":

10) Whitesnake "The Deeper The Love":

11) Skid Row "I Remember You":

12) Scorpions "Lust or Love":
13) Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers "Accused of Love":
14) Extreme "More Than Words":
15) Cher "You Wouldn't Know Love":

(Finished December 28th, 2022) Part 7 of "1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything", The Best of 1971

Hello,

I have no connection to the Apple series "1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything". However I started watching the 8 episode season tonight and reliving all that history and great music. I'll use this series as an inspiration for this blog. 1971 was a weird year in many away. One of the biggest artists of that year was The Osmonds. I was only 4 that year so I didn't have an opinion, but my opinion I'm sure would not have been that high. Looking back now I'm still shocked. How did a bunch of white Utah Mormon boys be in the same league as Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin and many others?

"1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything":

The Guitar Historian's look at the best albums of 1971:

103) The Carpenters "Bless The Beast and the Children":

104) "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves":

105) Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds "Don't Pull Your Love":

The video shows 1972, but both the album and single was released in 1971. 106) Nilsson "Without You":

107) Murray Head featuring the Trinidad Singers "Superstar":

108) Gordon Lightfoot "If You Could Read My Mind":

109) Santana "Oye Como Va":

114) Three Dog Night "Liar":

115) Bobby Goldsboro "Watching Scotty Grow":

116) The Fortunes "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again":

117) Van Morrison "Wild Night":

118) Rare Earth "I Just Want To Celebrate":

119) Undisputed Truth "Smiling Faces Sometimes":

(Finished December 27th, 2022) Part 10 of Classic Rock Songs That Continue To Resonate Today

Hello,

Happy New Year!!

This is another blog inspired by music from "Reacher". Oscar Finlay is a man that loves a good old 80s rock jam, meanwhile Reacher is more of a Blues guy. Two different blog series have been inspired by music from "Reacher". First it was classic ballads inspired by "Crazy". Now it's mostly great 80s rock inspired by "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Caught Up In You". I so love hearing these songs again, they bring back so many memories. Thankfully most of those memories are great.

Now my definition of classic rock is not your typical classic rock definition. First of all I hate the phrase classic rock- all rock music is just rock. I include in these series of blogs songs that rock, but aren't your standard rock music you'd hear on classic rock radio. (I typed those last three words with my head in a barf bag.) If a song has rock lyrics I consider it a rock song.

And don't most rock songs, if they stay relevant long enough, become a classic rock song?

154) Ten Years After "I'd Love To Change The World":

155) AC/DC "Thunderstruck":

156) Judas Priest "Living After Midnight":

157) Elton John "Kiss The Bride":

158) Free "All Right Now":

159) Stealers Wheel "Stuck In The Middle With You":

163) Rush "Limelight":

164) Rocky Burnette "Tired of Toein' The Line":

165) The Hollies "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress":

166) Guess Who "American Woman":

167) AC/DC "Big Balls":

168) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band "Dancing In The Dark":

169) Meat Loaf "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)":

170) Cinderella "Coming Home":

(Finished December 26th, 2022) Part 4 of According To Ranker.com The Worst Freakin' Songs of the '80s, Ranked (AKA The Most Fun and Ridiculous Songs of the 80s)

Hello,

Some of these somes are truly bad, but some of these are just amazing songs. Now presenting the best of the "worst". The numbers in parenthesis is Rankers' ranking. Some of these songs I've never heard of  so I am going to include them so I can hear them. Part 3 of this blog series will be coming later.

These are the bad/ unknown songs.

15) Dino "That's The Way I Like It":

I love Pat Benatar, but this song is meh. 28) Pat Benatar "Ooh Ooh Song":

Sure this song is silly, but it's not a terrible song. The worst thing about this song is that it's a very catchy earworm. 36) Bobby McFerrin "Don't Worry, Be Happy":

I actually like this song. 37) Alanis Morissette "Too Hot":

When I saw that title I thought to myself that sounded like a Meat Loaf/ Jim Steinman collaboration. Sure enough their version was released two years previously. It didn't chart for Meat Loaf, but went to #18 for Barry Manilow. 38) Barry Manilow "Read 'Em and Weep":

Meat Loaf's version:

Not sure why Ranker listed this song for the 80s when the original wasn't released until 1995. The Fork version wasn't released until 2005 and no I had no clue that version even existed. That Fork version is so obscure that there's not even a video available for it on YouTube. 41) Fork "You Oughta Know":

Instead I'm going to post Alanis' near perfect original, which has had 70 million people view it.

55) Debbie Harry "Backfired":

60 Debbie Gibson "Electric Youth":

66) Kylie Minogue "I Feel For You":

69) Marc Lavoine "C'est La Vie":

Even a great 80s band can have a bad 80s song. But this song is not that song. Although not as well know as many of their other songs this is still a very solid jam. It went to #22 in the UK in 1987. That probably had more to do with Duran Duran fatigue rather than the quality of the song. 80) Duran Duran "Skin Trade":

An inept instrumental cover of the Europe classic. This version quickly becomes unlistenable. 89) Mambo Kurt "The Final Countdown":

This is pretty mediocre by The Eurythmics usually high standards. 128) The Eurythmics "Right By Your Side":

Yes another Jim Steinman sounding title. Once again Steinman is the writer of this song. 138) Bonnie Tyler "Making Love (Out of Nothing At All)":

Hello,

Some of these songs are truly bad, but many of these songs are just amazing. Now presenting the best of the "worst". The numbers in parenthesis is Rankers' ranking. These songs are the best of the "worst freakin" 80s songs. There may be some duplicates, that means you can enjoy the song twice!!

I know that Milli Vanilli was a fake band, but the songs and people singing them are real. So I don't understand why all the hate because so many of these songs are amazing. 3) Milli Vanilli "Girl You Know It's True":

10) Milli Vanilli "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You":

14) Paul Lekakis "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)":

16) Milli Vanilli "Blame It On The Rain":

19) Milli Vanilli "Baby Don't Forget My Number":

Sure the song is silly, but I love this silly song. Also the song rocks. 20) Starship "We "Built This City":

22) Meat Loaf "Dead Ringer For Love":

23) Boys Don't Cry "I Wanna Be a Cowboy":

26) Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder "Ebony and Ivory":

30) Was (Not Was) "Walk The Dinosaur":

31) Poison "Unskinny Bop":

32) Bobby Brown "My Prerogative":

33) Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car":

39) Starship "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now":

42) The Beach Boys "Kokomo":

43) Lionel Richie and Diana Ross "Endless Love":

Not even close to being one of the worst freakin' songs of the 80s. Indeed not only is it one of the best songs of the 80s, it's also one of the greatest songs of all-time. 45) Lionel Richie "Say You Say Me":

These are the bad/ unknown songs.

Okay I have to admit this isn't the best song, but it's very much a song of it's time. The 1985 Chicago Bears could do anything but sing.

1) Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew "Super Bowl Shuffle":

This song is also ranked at #51 for some reason. 2) Bruce Willis "Respect Yourself":

Feels like a rip off of You Spin Me Round and a very cheesy rip off. I can see why I hadn't heard of this song before today.4) Russ Abbot "Atmosphere":

5) Barry Mann "Find Another Fool":

This song is so obscure that I couldn't find it on YouTube, but here is The Culture Club's "War Song" I don't remember this song but it went to #2 in England and #17 here in America. From what I can tell The Culture Club's version is different from the version by Sassafras. It seems The Culture Club has now essentially disowned this song. 6) Sassafras "The War Song":

The Culture Club "The War Song":

7) Laidback "Sunshine Reggae":

I'd rather not. 8) The Reynolds Girls "I'd Rather Jack":

9) Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers "Agadoo":

Not necessarily a bad song, but as with song 1 this is very much a song of it's time.11) New Kids on the Block "Hangin' Tough":

Ick. When the 80's Synth sounds didn't work out as well as it could have. 12) Modern Talking "Geronimo's Cadillac":

Again a song very much of it's time. 13) Eddie Murphy "Party All The TIme":

I hear both "Funky Town" and "You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)"14) Paul Lekakis "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)":

151) Rush "Tom Sawyer":

(Finished December 22nd, 2022) Part 17 of themusicaddict's Actual Greatest Songs Of All-Time (Special Christmas Songs Edition)

Hello,

Another Greatest Songs of All-Time issued from on high by Rolling Stone magazine. I love that magazine and have been a subscriber since approximately the early 80s. I understand that a lot of people have different tastes in music. That's the way it should be, but like everyone else I have my own opinions. Just as fervently as I agree with some of their choices I also disagree with some of their choices. Currently I'm working on my Top 100 Songs of All-Time and honorable mentions. There are just some songs that I can't not include in the Greatest Songs of All-Time. I started with 100 Greatest Songs of All-Time. That has inched up to several hundred songs and will continue to rise. For this blog I'm going to focus on the actual Greatest Songs Of All Time, not the honorable mentions. These are songs that are ranked outside of my Top 100 GSOAT.

These lists are very fluid. Most of these songs could have also been in my All-Time Top 100 if only I had thought of them earlier. There are probably at least 700 songs that will always be in my GSOAT. Again these are GSOAT, just outside my Top 100 GSOAT.
