Led Zeppelin touring?, Where's Robert?

Hello,

Once again my prayers and thoughts are going out to Jennifer Hudson and her family. Obviously that is a terrible tragedy when three of one's family members are murdered by a deranged, former family member. (I know nothing has been proved, but it looks like the "person-of-interest" is probably guilty.)

In much better news only 3.5 more weeks until "Chinese Democracy" will be finally released on the world. (Fingers crossed.) Again I am skeptical that this CD will actually come out this year. I just foresee something happening that prevents it from coming out. That is why I can't raise my percentage from it actually coming out this year above 10%. Now don't get me wrong I really want this CD to come out, I am just skeptical because I have been burned too many times. Also ew.com has an interesting feature on their website. It is a pictorial history of Guns n' Roses from the beginning to the impending release of "Chinese Democracy". There still is no official word about this release on Guns n' Roses official website. Their website is about as useful as a cowpie.

Rumors are also surrounding another one of my favorite bands, Led Zeppelin. After playing last December together John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Jason Bonham are wanting to tour again. The only problem is that Robert Plant does not want to tour for "at least two more years". He just barely finished his "Raising Sand" tour with Allison Krause. So the other three have been practicing together and sometimes they have another singer come in and practice with them. So they are seriously thinking about touring without Robert Plant, one of the greatest singers of all-time. Rolling Stone surfed youtube.com and found some singers singing Led Zeppelin songs. They are offering these as alternatives if Robert doesn't go out with Zep.(You can find these videos on rs.com all gathered together.(Don't laugh as this is how Journey, Boston and Yes all found recent lead singers.) I checked these wannabes out. I was not impressed. The singers from the bands Zoso and Black Dog were okay. The singer from the band Led Zepplica sounds most like Robert Plant. Rolling Stone also has video of Arnel Pineda, who currently is the lead singer for the lead singer challenged Journey. In addition they have video of Chris Robinson, he does not have a powerful enough voice. Then the most famous and probably the best Robert Plant imitator, David Coverdale. However he is not a realistic choice as he is working with Whitesnake. (Thanks to both rs.com and billboard.com for the information.)

So there are two questions I have to ask myself. One, would I want to go see this bastardized version of Led Zeppelin with only two original members? The answer is definitely. The second question is can anyone coming near to filling Robert Plant's place, the answer is hell no. After listening to those at best mediocre karoake versions of classic Zeppelin songs, I had to listen to the real thing on iTunes. There is no one that has the charisma, the voice to even come close to Robert Plant. Here is what I hope happens, Robert please join Jimmy, John and Jason and rock the world. Do it for world peace or at least whirled peas:)

Also a programming reminder on CMT on November 7th, they are going to show the concert pairing Taylor Swift and Def Leppard. That might be the first time I am going to purposely arrange my schedule to actually watch CMT or at least get it on DVR. That should be an awesome combination. This is part of CMT's Crossroads series. (I would watch CMT more if they always had videos by Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood like they did this morning.)

CMJ has named their pick of the 10 hottest new bands. They are (in no particular order) 1) Uglysuit 2) Izza Kizza 3) Chairlift 4) Ponytail 5) Bison B.C. 6) Friendly Fires 7) School of Seven Bells 8) The Muslims 9) Parts and Labor and 10) Sebastian Granger and the Mountains. At download.com you can actually download free music from at least 3 of these bands. I downloaded music from Ponytail, School of Seven Bells and Parts and Labor. This will give you just a little taste to see whether the bands are worth the hype.

Songs that are rocking my iPod: 1) "Jessie's Girl"- Rick Springfield No apologies as that song rocks my. 2) "Gallows Pole"- Led Zeppelin Just one of their many classic songs, just like 3) "Rock n' Roll" (Live) 4) "Anything Goes"- Guns n' Roses One of their many great songs, just don't listen to the lyrics. 5) "Fighter"- Christina Aguilera What a powerful voice and a powerful song. 6) "Bungle In The Jungle"- Jethro Tull One of the all-time classics. 7) "Old Man"- Neil Young with the Stray Gators. A song about people my age. 8) "If You Can Afford Me"- Katy Perry This is off one of the best CD's of 2008 "Just One of the Guys" 9) "Changes"- 3 Doors Down One of their more rocking songs 10) "Hey Nineteen"- One of the greatest songs of all-time. This features one of the all-time great lines. "She doesn't even know the Queen of Soul". 11) "Message In A Bottle"- The Police 12) "Bloody Well Right"- Supertramp 13) "Strip" One of the great classics from the 80's, again just don't listen to the lyrics. 14) "Still Within The Sound of My Voice"- Linda Ronstadt One of the great songs about longing and memory. 15) "Take Me With U"- Prince One of the many great songs from the Prince classic CD "Purple Rain". One of the all-time best soundtracks. 16) "Tusk" (Live) A truly great song that took a number of years to grow on me. 17) "Angry All The Time"- Tim McGraw A song that reminds me very much of someone that is close to me. 18) "Tell It To My Heart"- Taylor Dayne I had forgotten how great this song is. 19) "Sweet Child O' Mine"- Guns n' Roses Another song that took a number of years to grow on me. This version is from their "Live 1987-1993" CD and it absolutely rocks live. Guns n' Roses please, please, please come to Utah again. 20) "Yours To Keep" Teddybears (featuring Neneh Cherry) 21) "New York, New York" (Live)- Frank Sinatra. Sinatra really nails this song and "Mack The Knife" in concert. A truly great singer. 22) "Who Do You Want to Be?"- Oingo Boingo 23) "Cotton Eyed Joe"- Various Artists A knock off of the original. I had to settle for that because I couldn't find the original anywhere. 23) "American Idiot" (Live)- Green Day from the same named CD, which is one of the best CD's from this millenium. 24) "Sadeness"- Enigma A great song from an underappreciated artist.

One final local Utah note: Larry Miller who owns 5 theatres in Salt Lake is refusing to allow the movie "Zack and Miri Make A Porno" to be shown in his theatres. I wholeheartedly agree with his decision. While these movies can be funny, they are very filthy. (Sort of the "Porky's" for this generation). These movies seem to be made by a horny teenager with a video camera. Seth Rogen appeared in "The 40 Year Old Virgin". (A movie shown on network TV Sunday night. I thought that was funny, and after being heavily edited should have been called, "The 40 Minute Virgin".) Good for you Larry Miller! Your values are more important than the money. I welcome any comments whether you agree or disagree with me on anything.

That is it for now. Have a great week, themusicaddict

Minimal Musings on a Mellow Monday

Hello,

My name is alliteration and I approve this title. Again not much is going on in the world of entertainment. After a busy couple of weeks of Guns n' Roses news, things have slowed down. It actually looks like "Chinese Democracy" will be released in less than a month. (Rolling Stone please let's have G n' R on the cover for your next issue.) I am still dubious whether this CD will actually come out, I can just see Axl having a meltdown and refusing to release it.

I am not going to comment much on the Jennifer Hudson situation. I have read unconfirmed news reports that her missing nephew may have been found dead in a SUV early this morning. All I have to say is that this is a very sad situation. As readers of this blog know I am a big Jennifer Hudson fan. I send out my best wishes and prayers to the Hudson family.

Now on to a little more happy news: "Life On Mars" continues on it's brilliant run. After three episodes of this show I am a humongous fan. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out. Also another show that I would highly reccomend is the always excellent "Cold Case". That is such a great show, I don't know why it doesn't get more love. Last and definitely not least, last night was the Season Two finale of "Mad Men". What a great show and the finale was fantastic with many excellent storylines to be wrapped up in Season Three. (The similarites between the Draper's marriage and my wife's and I marriage are starting to lessen though. Neither one of us is the cheating type. Also Don has been invited home whereas I have not. Also my wife and I are involved in marriage counseling, something I don't see Don Draper doing. Finally my wife is not pregnant!)

With only 8 more days until Election Day, it seems Obama keeps on pulling away. I think it is going to be a landslide in Obama's favor. Even with the Presidential election about to happen, the #1 searched for term remains Angelina Jolie. It seems people are wrapped up in whether she and Brad Pitt are getting married or not. The highest ranked Presidential race news items is at is #5. After 8 years of one of the worst Presidencies in American history, it looks like it could be a historic election for the Democrats. All that bad Dick Cheney and Karl Rove karma is coming back on the Republicans.

Songs rocking my iPod: 1) "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (Live)- AC/DC 2) "All You Zombies"- The Hooters 3) "Baby Hold On"- The Dixie Chicks This is from one of the best CD's in the last several years, "Taking The Long Way". 4) "The Rain King"- The Counting Crows 5) "Song for the Dumped"- The Ben Folds Five One of the best pissed off, kiss off songs ever. 6) "Sweet Emotion"- Aerosmith 7) "I Melt"- Rascal Flatts 8) "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)"- Vertical Horizon 9) "With or Without You"- U2 10) "Bring Me To Life"- Evanesence 11) "Self Inflicted"- Katy Perry 12) "Dancing In Heaven"- Q-Feel 13) "Casimir Pulaski Day"- Surfjan Stevens This song comes from another excellent CD, "Come On Feel The Illinoise" 14) "Comin' Where I'm From"- Anthony Hamilton 15) "Phantom of the Opera"- Sarah Brightman 16) "The Last Day Of Our Acquantaintance"- Sinead O'Connor 17) "Trans Am"- Neil Young and Crazy Horse

I am not sure when I will be blogging next. Have a good week! themusicaddict

Guns n' Roses Welcome Back 2

Hello,

The Guns n' Roses momentum continues unabated. Can you believe this CD might actually come out in our lifetimes? Finally there has been an official release date set. "Chinese Democracy" will be released November 23rd, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. (November 23rd, 2008 is the official release date after many other dates were suggested.) So with new AC/DC, Metallica, Guns n' Roses and David Cook you can have a rockin' Thanksgiving. (Metallica just kicked off their tour Tuesday night in Phoenix with a rockin' 18 song set. AC/DC sold approximately 193,000 copies of "Black Ice" on it's first day of release. They kick off their tour October 28th.) The first single, also titled "Chinese Democracy", was released yesterday. It has received mixed reaction, although I think it is a great song. It sounds like vintage Guns n' Roses. Again Best Buy has it on it's website although as of this morning still no word on Guns n' Roses official website. With all this flurry of positive activity, I am increasing my chances of this CD actually coming out in 2008 to 10%.

To listen to this song for yourself go to www.q104.com/pages/news/gunsnroses. That website also has some other interesting things including their 1043 songs of 2007. Their #1 song is Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". As I wrote previously, the reaction to the song has been mixed. As of noon today at ew.com the results so far of an Entertainment Weekly poll: There are three ways you can vote. Option 1) That took 15 years?: 53% Option 2) A new G n' R classic: 26% Option 3) It's okay, maybe it will grow on me: 21%.

Other Guns n' Roses news. Dr. Pepper said it would give a free Dr. Pepper to everyone in America if G n' R actually released this CD. They are sticking by that. To collect go to DrPepper.com on November 23rd and print off a coupon. However the coupon only lasts for 24 hours. One final note some local, independent stores have contracts to release "exclusive" CD's. For instance, here in SLC, local store Graywhale has procured copies of the new AC/DC "Black Ice" CD. It is supposedly to be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart. They got their hands on some import copies of that CD. From what I hear they have a contract that allows them to buy any CD that is an exlusive CD. That includes "Chinese Democracy", which is going to be sold exclusively through Best Buy. (themusicaddict supports people buying all of their music at local, independent stores rather than large multinational companies like Wal-Mart or Best Buy.)

While I breathlessly wait for "Chinese Democracy", some people are breathlessly waiting for the 2008 Presidential election. Some Presidential polls have Obama with a 12% lead. So we will see. For those of you who don't fall into those two highly divergent camps, here's a third option.

I have heard some great songs lately. One I am really surprised about is Ace Young's, "Addicted". This is a great song and I highly reccomend you track it down and buy it. I was able to get it free, but I don't remember where I got it from. Another great song is Whitney Duncan's "When I Said I Would". I saw the video on CMT as I was walking on my parent's treadmill this morning. The song is great and Miss Duncan is a gorgeous babe with a big voice.

I will finally tell you the hot new female country singer I have discovered is Ashton Shepherd. She sings the hell out of "Takin' Off This Pain" and "Sounds So Good". She has a strong, twangy voice. I usually don't like a twangy singing voice, but hers for some reason is great. I listened to her debut CD thanks to my friends at Rhapsody. The name of the CD is "Sounds So Good", it is pretty good for a first effort. This is why I get every free song I can get from iTunes and amazon.com as you never know which ones will be great songs. I got both of the songs mentioned free, one from the iTunes music store and one from amazon.com. She also has the lyric of the year from "Takin' Off This Pain". It is, "I got this cold beer in my right hand and in my left I got my wedding band. I've been wearing it around now for far too long, and I am more than ready to see it gone. And I'm the only one that can set myself free."

Also as we head into this Christmas season, I have a Christmas music suggestion for you. The band is named the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They play rockin' Christmas music. They also do some traditional Christmas music, but all of it is very good. They also are about to go on tour as they are supporting a new Christmas CD this winter. So if you want to have a truly rockin' Christmas season, pick up their music or see them in concert. They will bring a smile to your face and put you in that Christmas spirit.

That is it for now. I should be back with Sunday, hopefully with more Guns n' Roses news. Have a great weekend and enjoy the lower gas prices, themusicaddict

Upcoming CD Releases, Good TV shows

Hello friends,

I am back and I apologize that I didn't blog yesterday. Just a brief update on my life now. My wife and I are still struggling to reconcile our marriage. We have our first marriage counseling appointment Wednesday afternoon. This week I am working 4 graveyard shifts so I can be trained to work those occasionally. I hate graveyards. I will suck it up though. Hopefully I will find another job soon.

I mentioned that there were rumors that Green Day is in the studio working on their new CD. This has been confirmed by Rolling Stone magazine. At their website they actually have video proof of super producer Butch Vig working with them. They'll be releasing this CD under their Green Day name, not under The Foxboro Hottubs. No word on a release date.

Here's a rundown of some television shows I am currently enjoying. Last week was the premiere of "Eli Stone", it's returning for it's second season. This season's first episode was great, a very clever storyline. If you haven't seen this show, you definitely need to give it a chance. The main character is played by Angelina Jolie's first husband. After a rough first episode, "Life on Mars" was much better for it's second episode. This show sort of has a "Lost" feel to it. The main character, Sam Tyler, has gone back into time to the year 1973. But the question is, is that reality or is he in a coma and hallucinating 1973? (He certainly wouldn't be the first person who hallucinated 1973.) Is there some other explanation? My real question is: "When we find out the actual explanation will it be plausible?" I don't know but I will just go with the flow and enjoy.

The third quality show I am enjoying is "Mad Men". As good as this show is I am feeling like I am missing a lot. I have not seen any of the episodes from the first season. I would highly reccomend that you rent the DVD for the first season and watch all 13 of those episodes first. Then you can watch the episodes for this season, it will help everything make a lot more sense. One more viewers note, you can skip the Demi Moore movie "Striptease". It was so boring that I fell asleep halfway through. Other than seeing Demi Moore's fantastic body and gorgeous face, there isn't much to reccomend this supposed comedy.

Speaking of overexposed in more ways than one. Have you seen Britney Spears new video for the song "Womanizer"? It is very sexy and she is looking very good. Although the song isn't that good. Also Beyonce has a video for her new song, "Single Ladies". Again the song is not that good, it is very repetitive. The dancing in the video is embarassingly bad.

Upcoming CD's: I am going to seperate them into four categories 1) "Chinese Democracy" 2) CD's that I think will be good 3) CD's that I think will be bad and 4) CD's that could go either way.

Category One: "Chinese Democracy", it seems like this CD deserves it's own category with all of it's history. I checked bestbuy.com and the date of this CD has now been pushed back two days and will now (allegedly) be released on November 25th. It is now scheduled to be released on a Tuesday, that is the traditional release date for almost 100% of all CD's. So no concern there, but who knows. Still no official word from Guns n' Roses lame official website. I am keeping my chances of this CD actually coming out this year at 2%.

Category Two: The good CD's. The first one in this category is AC/DC's "Black Ice" which comes out exclusively tomorrow at Wal-Mart. I am very excitedly looking forward to this CD. Other potentially good CD's, scheduled release dates in parenthesis. 1) David Cook's still untitled CD (11/18) released on the strength of his "American Idol" momentum. My suggested title, "Cougar Bait". 2) The "Twilight" Soundtrack (11/4) ew.com is giving it a pretty favorable review. However the thing I am most excited about is this CD has two new Paramore songs on it. They are one of my favorite new bands. 3) "Fearless" (11/11) Taylor Swift 4) "Funhouse" (10/28) Pink 5) Greatest Hits (10/28)- Rascal Flatts 6) "Safe Trip Home" (11/4)- Dido

Category Three: The bad CD's. 1) Britney Spears still untitled new CD (12/2). This CD will be released on her birthday, isn't that cute? My suggested title for this CD, "Coasting on My Former Glory" 2) "Dark Horse" (11/18)- Nickelback. Seriously how is this lame band still around, they should change their name to moneyback. Then that is what they should give to their deluded fans. At least Britney Spears is gorgeous. 3) "808's and Heartbreak"(Sometime in November) - Kanye West He says there is no rapping on this CD. Be warned. 4) "Take It To The Limit" (11/4)- Hinder I have a better title, how about, "Take It To The Trashcan". 5) David Archuletta's still untitled CD (11/11). My suggestion for the title, "Boring". It may not be good but at least it can win a truth in advertising award. Then in the no this is not a joke category, and a CD I think that will sell tens of copies. 6) "Early Works" (10/28)- Taylor Hicks This potentially could be the worst CD released all year.

Category Four: The Coin Flip CD's or who knows whether they will be good or not. 1) "That Don't Make Me A Bad Guy" (10/28)- Toby Keith 2) "iKons" (10/21) A Kiss boxset 3) "Day and Age" (11/25)- The Killers 4) "4:13 Dream" (10/28)- The Cure 5) "Play"- Brad Paisley Normally I would put this in the good category. However most of these songs are just instrumentals with Paisley showing off his guitar prowess. Only four of these songs Paisley is singing on. 6) "Cosmic Universal Fashion" (11/18)- Sammy Hagar

Two more notes congrats to the Tampa Bay Rays for having the intestinal fortitude to win Game 7 of the ALCS. Good luck in the World Series. I predict Boston will bounce back next year by adding more offense to their lineup. In my last blog I said I would be mentioning a hot new female country singer. I was going to listen to more of her songs on Rhapsody, but my internet has been in and out all day. So I am going to have to delay that until an upcoming blog. She is worth the wait and mystery.

Last but certainly not least, songs that are rocking my iPod. 1) "Fallen Angel"- Poison 2) "Mickey"- Toni Basil 3) "Manic Depression"- Jimi Hendrix 4) "Elevation"- U2 5) "Who Made Who" (Live)- AC/DC 6) "Silent All These Years"- Tori Amos 7) "Enjoy The Silence"- Depeche Mode 8) "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (Live 1983)- U2 9) "Animal"- Def Leppard 10) "My Sacrifice"- Creed 11) "Teenage Dirtbag"- Wheatus 12) "The Shortest Straw"- Metallica 13) "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'"- Nancy Sinatra 14) "Come on Eileen"- Dexy's Midnight Runners 15) "Hey Nineteen"- Steely Dan 16) "I'll Be Alright Without You"- Journey 17) "Hella Good"- No Doubt 18) "My Wave"- Soundgarden 19) Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"- The Platters. This is one of the greatest songs of all-time. 20) "Still Within The Sound Of My Voice"- Linda Ronstadt A really powerful song.

That is it for today, I don't know when I will be back, have a good week.

Guns 'N' Roses Welcome Back

Hello,

Yesterday at rs.com it was reported that Best Buy stated that "Chinese Democracy" will definitely be available at their stores on November 23rd. Currently the CD contains 14 songs. However with this CD this is subject to change. Best Buy has this CD listed on it's website now. "Chinese Democracy" is going to have multiple covers. Best Buy has a picture of one cover now, with a second cover soon to be unveiled. The price listed now is $13.99 however you can't preorder it on-line yet. That is all positive news but I still remain very skeptical that this CD will be released. In fact I have only raised my chances of this CD actually being released so soon to 2%. This has had so many stops and starts in the last several years. I would be very excited to be able to buy it though. Also Guns n' Roses claim they will actually tour to support the CD. If they don't that would be as lame as UFC 89.

With being so busy with my life, I was only able to read about the first 90 pages of "Watch You Bleed" before I had to take it back to the library. "Bleed" is the Guns n' Roses biography written by Stephen Davis. It's a very enjoyable book. I had read to the part where Guns 'n Roses is just about to break out. One of the earlier incarnations of the band was named Hollywood Rose. I was intrigued by that and wondered if there was any music available for them. Sure enough iTunes has a 15 song CD available for $9.99. Be careful though as this is actually only 5 songs with three different versions each. The five songs are, "Killing Time", "Reckless Life", "Rocker", "Shadow of Your Love" and also an early version of "Anything Goes". "Anything Goes" is the "my way, your way anything goes tonight." "Anything Goes" is one of the twelve standout tracks on the classic "Appetite for Destruction".

Speaking of long awaited CD's: AC/DC's new CD will be available at Wal-Mart exclusively this Tuesday. The name of the CD is "Black Ice" and the price is listed at $11.88. This CD has 15 tracks on it. Wal-Mart is doing promotion pretty heavily on it's website for it. At walmart.com you can listen to two preview tracks now with three more preview songs coming soon. The Wal-Mart website also has a countdown for the new CD and a behind the scenes of the whole process. rollingstone.com is giving this CD an excellent review, calling this CD their "best disc in two decades". "For Those About To Rock" indeed.

This is shaping up to be a very rocking fall, with new music from Metallica, Guns n' Roses (fingers crossed) and AC/DC. Also both AC/DC and Metallica definitely will be touring this fall and into next year.

A couple of other things, Rolling Stone has put Barack Obama on it's cover yet again. This is the third time in six months. Okay Rolling Stone I get it you really want Obama as President, but this seems a bit excessive. I don't even know if Obama needs any help as he is rolling. Thanks to John McCain shooting himself in the foot every few days and Obama's momentum, I am thinking Obama is going to win in a landslide. Please cut back on putting him on the cover for awhile. I have some suggestions for upcoming covers. On your next cover put AC/DC and then on the following cover put Guns n' Roses. Rolling Stone is still a rock music magazine right?

Also in the MLB playoffs my teams surviving are down to one and that is only due to one of the most amazing comebacks of all-time. Boston was down 7-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning to the Tampa Bay Rays who had all the momentum. However the ghosts of Fenway and Boston's own hitters rallied and scored the next 8 runs to win in the bottom of the 9th inning. That is the second largest comeback in MLB postseason history. Game six of that series is tonight back in Tampa Bay at 6:00pm on Fox. Go Red Sox!

The legendary singer of the Four Tops, Levi Stubbs, passed away the other day. R.I.P. Levi and my conolences to his family, friends and fans. In other sad news, it has been confirmed that Madonna and Guy Ritchie are getting divorced. On Madonna's latest CD there were hints of discord in the marriage. She is currently on her Sticky and Sweet concert tour. I hope they work that out to the benefit of their kids.

I should be back tomorrow with more news about Britney Spears, Beyonce, Green Day and some cool TV shows. I will be introduciing another great country singer that is similar to Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert as well. themusicaddict

Juicy Rumors

Hello,

I would just like to state uncategorically that the three following pieces of info are rumors only. They have not been officially confirmed by the bands cited. However the rumors are still fun and intriguing.

1) According to billboard.com: Guns n' Roses "Chinese Democracy" is going to be out on November 23rd, that is a Sunday. I am giving this CD about a 25% chance of actually coming out near that timeframe. Although it is good news, I will always be skeptical about a new Guns n' Roses CD. I have heard three possible release dates for when this CD will be out. All three dates are within 7 days of each other, so that gives some creedence that "Chinese Democracy" will actually be released.

2) Shirley Manson, former lead singer for Garbage, was on a talk show recintly. The interviewer asked her if there was going to be a Garbage reunion. She said that everyone is doing their own thing. Manson is working on the Terminator TV show "The Sarah Connor Chronicles". She said that Butch Vig is producing the new Green Day CD. Vig is one of the members of Garbage as well. (Thanks to spin.com) Other sources have cited Vig is working with Green Day, so this is likely.

3) Also the most ludricous rumor of them all is that Led Zeppelin is thinking about dumping Robert Plant as lead singer because he won't tour. Apparantally a lot of money is on the table for a Led Zeppelin reunion. Original members John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are really pushing Plant to go out on tour. I don't know what to think about that. Apparantally they have some young buck singer ready in case Plant does not participate. Would I go see Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant, yes! I give this about a 1% chance of actually happening though.

A couple of other quick nuggets that have been confirmed. AC/DC has selected the North Ireland rock band The Answer to be their opening act on all dates of their upcoming tour. Only 8 more days until AC/DC's "Black Ice" will be available at Wal*Mart. I have only heard one song off this CD, but that song kicked butt. I am expecting good things for this CD. I am hoping to give a review of this CD as soon as I have money.

Also last week a new TV show debuted, it is called "Life On Mars". It had a pretty intriguing premise. A cop is sent 35 years back in the past to 1973. It is not known if this is an actual time-traveling trip or if he is in a coma and this is in his imagination. All clues point to him being comatose. However if that is the case, then I don't see the point of the show. So far it is an okay show, with a good rock soundtrack. Also Lisa Bonet guest stars in it, which means from what I can tell she will hardly ever be in it. Miss Bonet is looking absolutely gorgeous. I am going to give this show two or three more weeks to see if it is worth my time.

Well that is it for now. Have a good week, themusicaddict

More "Chinese Democracy" rumors

Hello,

This is my second blog with that title, that's how long the "Chinese Democracy" debacle has been going on. (My oldest kid is 12 and the making of "Chinese Democracy" has been going on longer than he has been alive.) However there are now three indicators that this CD may be nearing the light of day. 1) "Shackler's Revenge" is on the newest Guitar Hero game. By the way you can actually listen to this song at youtube.com. Just type in "Shackler's Revenge" in the search box. "Revenge" starts out like an industrial song then moves more into the Guns n' Roses familiar terrain. This song really rocks. 2) Another song, "If The World" is going to be playing over the end credits of the new Russell Crowe movie, "Body of Lies". "Body of Lies" will be in movie theatres tomorrow. 3) The rumors continue hot and heavy about when "Chinese Democracy" will be released, including exact release dates. The latest rumor comes from Blender magazine. According to Blender magazine, "Chinese Democracy" is going to be released on November 28th. That is the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year. Blender also confirms the CD is going to be exclusively sold through Best Buy.

As with all other G n' R rumors, take everything you read and hear with a grain of salt. As always the Guns n' Roses website remains mute. If you see something there, it probably has more validity. Just thinking this CD might actually be out next month has me pretty excited. Also other news during this whole time Guns n' Roses has been working on music for CD's beyond "Chinese Democracy". So it is possible, though not probable, that there will be a series of new G n' R CD's out over the next few years.

Other news, Esquire magazine has named Halle Berry The Sexiest Woman Alive. I heartily concur. She is a gorgeous woman, who keeps on getting better looking as she is growing older. I've seen her on talk shows and she is a very sweet person. Her only flaw is she is not very good at picking out quality movies to be in. Also David Archuletta has signed with Irving Azoff as his manager, instead of 19 Entertainment. They are the people behind "American Idol". I don't blame little David because 19 Entertainment hasn't done much with the careers of many of it's clients.

Also this is a cease and desist order to the TV show "Mad Men", please stop following my life and then using it as stories for your show. My marriage has a lot of similarities with Don and Betty Draper. We were both seperated about the same time, and my marriage has been very similar in other ways to the fictional marriage of the Drapers. Also like January Jones, my wife is extremely beautiful and a little frosty. However things are good when she is on your side. In our seperation I hope I get back with my wife. I think that is more likely for us than it is for the Drapers. By the way if you haven't seen "Mad Men" yet what are you waiting for, it is a great show.

Last but not least, my Dodgers are starting play in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series today. Go Dodgers! I am really excited about these games coming up. This is the first NLCS the Dodgers have played in in 20 years. So it is about time. All games will be on Fox. Game 2 will be tomorrow afternoon, the first two games will be in Philadelphia. Tomorrow is game 1 of the ALCS between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays. This series starts in Tampa Bay. This series has the makings of a classic battle. These teams were fighting for first place all season and have a long history of brawling. I could really see this ALCS becoming a classic.

That's it for now. Have a good weekend, themusicaddict

Eddie is engaged

Hello,

Here's the biggest news in the music world that I could find. Eddie Van Halen is engaged. Apparantally he's been engaged to his publicist and longtime girlfriend since August. Her name is Janie Liszewski. Van Halen very famously has been married before, he was married to Valerie Bertinelli for several years. They have a son together, Wolfgang, who is the bassist for the current lineup of Van Halen.

Other music news: Taylor Hicks has signed a deal to release his next CD through an indie distributor. He was dropped from the contract he won after winning "American Idol", that must have been a really weak season. He also has performed in "Grease". Since "AI", Hicks has been desperately trying to stay relevant. However I think his problem is that he has never been relevant. He won "American Idol" by sort of being the anti "American Idol". Where's the Soul Patrol when you need them. His inconsequential new CD will be out Februay 10th. So Taylor thanks for coming but it is now time to fade into obscurity. I hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame. Be grateful that is 15 more minutes than most people enjoy.

Kanye West has threatened to release his next CD on November 25th. Consider yourself warned! In much better music news, Depeche Mode has announced their next CD will be released in early Spring 2009. They also announced a 28 date European tour starting May 10th. North and South America dates will be announced at a later date. It is closing in on being the last time you can see some of these great 80's bands before they lose everything that made them popular in the first place.

A brief bit of movie news: I watched the Michael J. Fox movie "The Secret Of My Success" the other day. This movie also stars Helen Slater as the babe, whatever happened to her anyway? (I know calling her the babe is sexist but that is essentially what she plays even though she is a high powered exectutive. It is interesting she does not have a secretary, but Michael J. Fox does.) This is a cheesy movie but I really enjoyed seeing it again for the first time in several years. This movie holds up fairly well, especially in this era of corporate raiders.

Sports news: the Boston Red Sox defeated the LA Angels last night to win that series. So the two League Championship Series are now set. It will be Boston vs. the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS. The ALCS starts Friday night in Tampa Bay. In the NLCS it will be the Dodgers vs. the Philadelphia Phillies. The NLCS starts Thursday in Philadelphia. I would like to see both the Dodgers and Red Sox win. However when two of my teams played against each other, that was no fun. I am really conflicted.

That is it for today. I should be back Thursday, themusicaddict

Cubs... 100 years and counting!

Hello,

As you know I am a big baseball fan. I love the Cubs and the Dodgers and they had the misfortune of playing each other in the playoffs. That was no fun for me. Everytime the Dodgers had success, that means that the Cubs failed. So a very bittersweet series for me. So after all was said and done, the Dodgers won the series 3-0. So the Cubs have now gone 100 years without winning the World Series, even though they had one of their best teams of all-time. The Dodgers will now play Milwaukee or Philadelphia starting Thursday- the winner advances to this year's World Series.

My other team that made the playoffs, Boston, is thankfully not playing a team that I have cheered for for years. Boston has looked almost unstoppable as they have defeated the Angels 2-0 in games. The series now switches back to Fenway Park for Game 3 tonight.

In the music world not much is going. Sorry for the few blog posts. I have been working a lot of hours the last three days and I have my boys overnight. So as you can guess not a lot of time. I just wanted to type up a quick blog. I should be back Tuesday with a real blog, I have that day off. Have a good week, themusicaddict

Wednesday Happiness

Hello,

Today, after a long regular season, Major League Baseball playoffs begin. I have 4 teams I cheer for. It is a long and complicated story why I cheer for 4 MLB teams and I won't explain here. For those of you keeping track at home I cheer for the L.A. Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves. Three of those teams made the playoffs and all three teams start today. Unfortunately two of those teams play each other. Whoever wins the Chicago-L.A. series I think has a solid chance to win the whole thing. For sports this is a great time of year.

One more baseball note: I mispoke when I was writing about how many years the Yankees have made it to the playoffs. Before this season, the Yankees had made the playoffs 13 consectutive years. That is an amazing run but I am glad it is over. I am also glad that Joe Torre no longer manages the Yankees, he has gone to L.A. to rescue my Dodgers.

Music news, the new issue of Rolling Stone is featuring John McCain on their cover. The title of the story is "Make Believe Maverick". I have officially tired of this whole election cycle and will be glad when a rock star is on the cover of Rolling Stone again. November 4th is Election Day, so we don't have that long. Themusicaddict is officially throwing his weight (and that's a lot) behind Barack Obama. After Bush's disastrous Presidency, I don't think I can tolerate another Republican President for a long time. I apologize, that is enough of politics.

A quick political/ music note. Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel are teaming together to play in concert in support of Barack Obama's Presidential bid. This is the first time they have ever played together. They will be playing at the 2500 seat Hammer- stein Ballroom in New York City on October 16th. Tickets range anywhere between $500 to $10,000. That's just a tad out of themusicaddict's financial range. I would love to see that show though. (Thanks to rs.com)

Speaking of hot concerts, AC/DC announced yesterday that it has added several more dates to the American portion of it's upcoming concert. They have now extended their "Black Ice" tour to January 31st in Nashville. Their first 18 shows have sold out. Also a personal note to AC/DC, please come to Salt Lake City. We like excellent rock music just like any other city. Only 19 more days until their new CD comes out. October 20th will be the dawning of "Black Ice". Early reports of the CD is that it kicks butt. I know the first single "Black Ice" is pretty damn rocking. Remember this CD is going to be exclusively sold through Wal Mart. Wal Mart also has a live AC/DC DVD that is on sale now. (Thanks to billboard.com)

Finally last but least, Phish has officially announced they are reuniting in 2009. I am accepting donations to see if we can prevent that from happening.

Have a great week, themusicaddict
