(Updated January 31st, 2021) Selected Best Cover Songs of All-Time: H-K, Songs 34-50

Hello,

An interesting twist on Lady Gaga's original, but not as good as her version.
Halestorm 34) "Bad Romance":

From the amazing Soundgarden, easily one of the coolest rock band names ever.
Halestorm 35) "Fell On Black Days":

Originated and perfected by the Righteous Brothers and decently covered by
36) Hall and Oates "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling":

37) M.C. Hammer "Have You Seen Her":

From the pen of Bob Dylan, this is Jimi Hendrix's fantastic 38) "All Along The Watchtower":

Obviously the Fleetwood Mac classic, but these ladies equal the original. Both versions are absolutely amazing. 39) The Highwomen "The Chain":

40) The Honeydrippers "The Sea of Love":

From the "Chess" Original Broadway Soundtrack. 41) Whitney and Cissy Houston "I Know Him So Well":

"The Greatest Love Of All" was originally performed by George Benson, this is 42) Whitney Houston's amazing version:

Jody Reynolds wrote and sang this song in 1956. 43) Billy Idol "Endless Sleep":

Tommy James and the Shondells first sang this song. 44) Billy Idol "Mony, Mony":

The Marshall Tucker Band first sang this song. 45) Waylon Jennings "Can't You See":

Another original song from Tommy James and the Shondells. 46) Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
"Crimson and Clover":

Roger Miller first sang this song. 47) Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee":

Jasmine Thompson's amazing cover of the Tears For Fears classic:

First it was Dio, then it was 49) Killswitch Engage "Holy Diver":

(Finished January 29th, 2020) Selected Best Cover Songs of All-Time: C-G, Songs 19-33

Hello,

The Clash covered the song that the Bobby Fuller Four popularized.
19) The Clash "I Fought The Law":

This song was on The Beatles "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and sung by Ringo Starr. 20) Joe Cocker "With A Little Help From My Friends":

From the musical "A Little Night Music" and one of the first singers of this song was the great Frank Sinatra. 21) Judy Collins "Send In The Clowns":

This classic song was written by Nick Lowe and first recorded by Brinsley Schwartz.
22) Elvis Costello "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding":

Joni Mitchell first recorded this song followed by CSNY, both in 1970. 23) Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young "Woodstock":

This song was recorded by six different musicians in 1940 before Fats Domino made it his own in 1956. 24) Fats Domino "Blueberry Hill":

It's hard to believe that the Queen of Soul wasn't the first person to sing this song, because when she sang the song she took over ownership of it. 25) Aretha Franklin "Respect":

Roberta Flack brought this song to fame, both mentioned versions of this song are very good.
This live video actually features Roberta Flack, that's pretty cool. Can I just say I love Lauryn Hill, she's so amazing. It's a shame she hasn't released more songs. 26) Fugees "Killing Me Softly":

27) Ghost "It's A Sin":

This song was first made famous by the one and only Elvis Presley.
28) Grannis, Kina "Can't Help Falling In Love":

29) Obviously a cover of one of the best songs of the greatest rock band of all-time, do I even need to say their name? "Great White "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You";

Originally performed by the Ian Hunter Band. 30) Great White "Once Bitten, Twice Shy":

In my opinion this is the best version of this song by anyone who has sang it ever.
31) Greta Van Fleet "A Change Is Gonna Come":

32) Guns N' Roses "Live and Let Die":

33) Guns N' Roses "Knockin' On Heaven's Door":

(Finished January 28th, 2020) Selected Best Cover Songs of All-Time: A-C

Hello,

I'm leaving room to add songs to these blogs as I think of more songs.

All three of these amazing covers are by Adele:

Bonnie Raitt's amazing version was our first introduction to this song. Both of these ladies were born to sing this song. 1) Adele "I Can't Make You Love Me":

This song originates with The Steel Drivers. 2) "If It Hadn't Been For Love":

This song comes from the pen of Bob Dylan and was first commercially released by Billy Joel.
3) "Make You Feel My Love":

The original was by The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. 4) Alien Ant Farm "Smooth Criminal":

The original song was by Prince. 5) Art of Noise featuring Tom Jones "Kiss":

Both versions of this song are amazing, the original is by Don Henley.
6) Ataris "Boys of Summer":

From the Bangles originally. 7) Atomic Kitten "Eternal Flame":

Simon & Garfunkel had many amazing songs, but their version of this song isn't so good.
The only bad thing about this song is that it's not longer. 8) Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter":

Shocking Blue originated this song, this version is so much better. 9) Bananarama "Venus":

The original song was by The Isley Brothers. 10) Beatles "Twist and Shout":

Otis Redding sang the original version of this classic. 11) The Black Crowes "Hard To Handle":

The Spencer Davis Band first performed this song with amazing vocals by Steve Winwood.
12) The Blues Brothers "Gimme Some Lovin'":

From the great Muddy Waters. 13) Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown "Got My Mojo Working":

Although not quite as good as Nine Inch Nail's classic original, this is still a pretty good version. Buckcherry's singer sounds a bit like Trent Reznor. 14) Buckcherry "Head Like A Hole":

Jimmy Webb wrote and delivered an incomplete version of this song.
15) Glen Campbell "Wichita Lineman":

Prince wrote and performed the best version of this song, but this definitely is the best version of this song. 16) Chaka Kahn "I Feel For You":

Cher covered her own song, 21 years after she originally released it. I prefer the rock version much more. 17) Cher "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)":

Essentially covering his own song, from when he was with Derek and the Dominoes, when this song was first released. I prefer this slowed down version though. 18) Eric Clapton "Layla":

(Finished February 12th, 2020) The Light and Dark Songs of Amazing Musicians, Part 4

Hello,

This blog was inspired by a previous blog about joyful songs. Along with Roxette's "Joyride". I also wanted to add "It Must Have Been Love", but I just couldn't justify it. So I thought that I could post both the joyful and darker songs by the same musician. I'm starting with the previously mentioned Roxette, but a different joyful song.

48,022 YouTube views, that number seems low. 57) Debbie Gibson "Out of the Blue":

10,215,517 YouTube views, which seems about what I expected. 58) Debbie Gibson "Foolish Beat":

10,892 YouTube views. That number seems low for such a great song. However this isn't the original video for this song, so perhaps that low view count isn't so surprising?
59) Jackson Browne "Somebody's Baby":

117,153 YouTube views, seems about the right number. This song couldn't be any more relevant than when it was first released. 60) Jackson Browne "Lives In The Balance":

168,018 YouTube page views. 61) Gordon Lightfoot "Beautiful":

2,958,599 YouTube views. This is such a great song, but such a sad tragedy.
62) Gordon Lightfoot "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald":

2,482,799 YouTube videos, I'm guessing this will have a lot more views than the other Sarah song. 63) Sarah Brightman "Phantom of the Opera":

109,386 YouTube views, no shock not as many views as the above song. About two weeks later this song now has 112, 881 YouTube views. She has such a pretty fantastic voice.
64) Sarah Brightman "Eden":

Only 6,890 YouTube views. 65) Michael Crawford "And The Money Kept Rolling In":

15,529 YouTube views. 66) Michael Crawford "What A Strange Way To Save The World":

159,540,022 YouTube views. 67) AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long":

5,119,398 YouTube views. 68) AC/DC "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap":

345,295 YouTube views. 69) Metallica "Atlas Rise":

2,603,584 YouTube views. 70) Metallica "The Unforgiven":

112,569,649 YouTube views. I read recently that Tyler doesn't like to sing this song. This is one of Aerosmith's Top 10 best songs easily. 71) Aerosmith "Angel":

58 million YouTube views. 72) Aerosmith "Livin' On The Edge":

204 million YouTube views. 73) Alicia Keys "If I Ain't Got You":

511,394 YouTube views. This is such a great song! 74) Alicia Keys "Samsonite Man":

(Finished January 20th, 2020) The 49ers On Their Way To Super Bowl 54 Playlist, Part 1

Hello,

Following a convincing win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship the 49ers are now moving on to Miami for Super Bowl 54.

Here's a playlist honoring the 49ers as they're on their way to their sixth Super Bowl title and their first Super Bowl title since 1995.

R.I. P. Whitney!! 1) Whitney Houston "One Moment In Time":

I know that Patrick Mahomes is the real deal, but so is the 49ers defense. The Chiefs don't want any part of that rock defense. 2) Queen "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions":

This is what I'll be doing following the Super Bowl!! 3) Kool and the Gang "Celebration":

4) Calvin Harris "Blame":

5) Calvin Harris featuring Firebeats "It Was You":

"I gotta feeling that it's going to be a good night" on February 2nd. Yup. 6) Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta A Feeling":

7) Bill Conti Theme From Rocky "Gonna Fly Now":

After getting very little respect for the season, it will be fun to have this song title in my head following the 49ers big win in the 54th Super Bowl. 8) Tina Turner "Simply The Best":

9) Corey Hart "Never Surrender":

10) U2 "Beautiful Day":

11) Vangelis "Chariots of Fire":

12) Winning "Santana":

13) Black Eyed Peas "Let's Get It Started":

This could be a name for that 49ers defense. 14) The Commodores "Brick House":

15) Rednex "Cotton Eye Joe":

16) Rihanna "Don't Stop The Music":

17) C+C Music Factory "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)":
