(Finished April 23rd, 2024) Part 10 of Songs That Meant Something To Me In The 80s, Songs 154-171

Hello,

Previously I worked at Lowes and they're a store that plays a preponderance of 80s music. As an old fogie and a member of Generation X I love 80s music. Two of the better songs that were played were Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" and Fleetwood Mac's "Hold Me". I now work at a hospital and I miss not have songs playing while working. But hey it's a much better job.

154) The Jeff Healey Band "Angel Eyes":

155) The Cure "Why Can't I Be You":

156) Peabo Bryant and Roberta Flack "Tonight I Celebrate My Love":

157) Sade "Your Love Is King":

158) Skyy "Real Love":

I like Palmer's version better than Cherelle's version, I have included both here. Here's an anti-love song
159) Cherelle "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On":

 160) Robert Palmer's "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On":

162) Kenny Loggins "Vox Humana":

163) Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give You Up":

164) INXS "Need You Tonight":

165) Terrance Trent D'Arby "Sign Your Name":

166) Blondie "Atomic":

167) Mr. Mister "Broken Wings":

168) New Order "Blue Monday":

(Finished April 20th, 2024) Part 9 of Songs That Meant Something To Me In The 80s, Songs 137-153

Hello,

Currently I'm working at Lowes and they're another store that plays a preponderance of 80s music. As an old fogie and a member of Generation X I love 80s music. Two of the better songs that were played were Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" and Fleetwood Mac's "Hold Me".

A song that I've always loved about a sport I've always loved is John Fogerty's "Centerfield". Go Dodgers!! Please sign Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers did sign Ohtani along with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and traded for Tyler Glasnow. The Dodgers are paying a lot of money to be in the middle of the pack in the MLB. So far I've been very disappointed. As of tonight they are 12-11 and have the 16th best record in MLB.  120) John Fogerty "Centerfield":

137) Peter Gabriel "Games Without Frontiers":

138) Sinead O'Connor "Black Boys on Mopeds":

139) Metallica "One":

140) XTC "Dear God":

141) Rush "Early Distant Warning":

142) U2 "Pride (In The Name of Love)":

143) Sting "Russians":

144) Prince "Sign of the Times":

145) Martika "Toy Soldiers":

146) U2 "New Years Day":

147) Sinead O'Connor "The Emperor's New Clothes":

The 80s were a sappy decade, there were a lot of great love songs. Here are some of the best:

148) Foreigner "I Want To Know What Love Is":

149) Survivor "The Search Is Over":

One of my all-time favorite Elton John songs. 150) Elton John "I'm Still Standing":

151) Survivor "High On You":

152) Chicago "You're The Inspiration":

153) The Bangles "Eternal Flame":

Most of the news items below come from this: https://americasbesthistory.com/abhtimeline1960.html

What were some of the historical events that happened in 1965 to 1967?

The Vietnam War intensifies in 1965. Also the first draft card was burned in 1965. In 1966 United States warplanes begin their bombing raids of Hanoi and Haiphong, North Vietnam. Over 400,000 Americans were in country also at that time.

The Watts riot occurred in 1965. In July, 1967 Black riots plague Newark, New Jersey. Twenty six are killed, over 1,500 were injured and one thousand were arrested. From July 23rd to July 30th forty more people were killed in Detroit. In a semi-related theme Thurgood Marshall is sworn into office as the first black Supreme Court justice.

Also in 1966 Medicare, a great program for seniors, begins. As someone who works in a hospital I see this great program in practice everyday.

(Finished April 15th, 2024) Part 2 of themusicaddict's Top 100ish Albums of All-Time: The Anti-Preview

Hello,

I decided today to take on the task of naming the 100ish best albums of all-time. I use ish as I'm not sure how many albums I will end with. Right now I have about 145 CDs on the Top 100ish Albums of All-Time. These CDs cover nearly every genre, era, style and decades. The CDs represented here range from the 1960s to the 2010s.

I'm going to start off with songs from CDs that aren't included on the Top 100ish albums of all-time. Thus the anti-preview. There's no guarantee that the bands below will have an album on the Top 100ish albums of all-time. But you will know some of the albums that won't be on that list.

Also for the most part I'll not be including greatest hits or live albums to this list. A certain Jamaican reggae musician may be an exception to that. Feel free to Google the albums each song is from.

18) Blondie "Dreaming":

19) Billy Joel "Piano Man":

20) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band "Born To Run":

21a) Stevie Wonder "Sir Duke":

21b) One version of this song just isn't enough. A longer version of "Sir Duke":

22) Peter Gabriel "Games Without Frontiers":

This great song is from "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb", not exactly the pinnacle of peak U2. 23) U2 "Vertigo":

From U2's third CD "War". This song is one of their most anthemic songs from their career. "War" is also known for the classic "New Year's Day" and "Two Hearts Beat As One". At this point they were still young band trying to find their way. Only five years they released their late 80s classic "The Joshua Tree". 24) U2 "Sunday Bloody Sunday":

25) Stone Temple Pilots "Big Bang Baby":

26) XTC "Senses Working Overtime":

27) Simple Minds "Alive and Kicking":

28) Alan Jackson "Chasin' That Neon Rainbow":

29) Sugarland "Baby Girl":

30) Little Big Town "Pontoon":

31) The Band Perry "If I Die Young":

32) Aerosmith "Dream On":

33) The Thompson Twins "Into The Gap":

34) "Rock That Body":

(Finished April 12th, 2024) The A's Of My iPod

Hello,

I'm one of those old people that haven't quite caught up with all the technology and just don't care who knows. 😁 I go walking with my iPod Nano and not a phone. I just want to listen to my music and not have to worry about anything else.

I have no need to impress anyone. I like the technology that I use. I have an old school iPod Nano, it's still running after 14 years of service. It holds about the perfect amount of songs, not too many and not too few.

The other day on my morning walk I accidentally set it to play artists starting with the letter a. So many great songs were played- as always, it is my iPod and I pick songs that I love-and I thought this would make a great blog topic. If an artist is a solo singer they are categorized alphabetically by their first name- in case your OCC gets triggered.

1) AC/DC "TNT":

If you had asked me if I had ever heard of this band I would have said "no". However it seems I have heard of them and in fact have one of their songs on my iTunes. I love this quirky little song. 2) The Accidentals "Earthbound":

I'm intrigued by this song, let's check out a few more songs by The Accidentals. "What A Waste":

The Accidentals "Go-Getter":

A cover of the Blondie classic by The Accidentals This cover takes a few seconds to heat up, but then it really kicks into gear. I love how The Accidentals have put a rock sheen on this disco classic. "Heart of Glass":

3) Aerosmith "Dream On":

4) AFI "Anxious":

5) Air Supply "Making Love Out of Nothing At All":

6) Alan Jackson "She's Got The Rhythm (I Got The Blues)":

7) The Alarm "The Stand":

8) Alice In Chains "Grind":

9) Alice In Chains "Again":

10) Alice Merton "Same Team":

11) Alison Moyet "Invisible":

12) The All-American Rejects "Swing Swing":

13) Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks and Eddie Redmayne "In My Life/ A Heart Full of Love":

The former Duran Duran member makes his own music. 14) Andy Taylor "A Man's A Wolf To Man":

15) The Angels "My Boyfriend's Back":

Hopefully I'll be seeing the touring production of "Les Miserables" in 2025 and I'm going through a "Les Mis" phase. 16) Anne Hathaway "I Dreamed A Dream":

17) Arcade Fire "Crown of Love":

18) Arcade Fire "Lightning 1,2":

19) Avantasia "Draconian Love":

20) Ayron Jones "Baptized In Muddy Waters":
