When I'm just watching TV, watching a show set in space in the 23rd century I don't think I'm about to hear a song from the 80s. That would be the 1980s. Out of nowhere comes Wham!'s "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go". But sure enough there it was and I was reminded of the universality of 80s music. Even when I try I can't escape it. Here are some great and fun songs from the 80s.
This show was Season 3, episode 2 "Wedding Bell Blues" and I hate to say how boring that episode was. Also the end of the episode suggested what the next episode would be about. I have no desire to see that episode. I've pretty much given up on that show.
There are so few sci-fi shows that are great. So far I've been enjoying the bizarre "Pluribus". It's bizarre in a very entertaining way though. I also have been enjoying "Welcome To Derry". I need a good show to watch with about 50 episodes I can just watch without spending time looking for something to watch.

It's again about time to relive that great time of the early to mid 80s of New Wave music. New Wave is a genre that has quirky people, quairly lyrics and quirky music. It doesn't work all the time, but when it work at it's best the songs are great.
What exactly is/ was New Wave music. Well two things New Wave typically is energetic and fun. New Wave never took itself too seriously. The lyrics weren't serious. New Wave is basically just fun upbeat music to dance to. Who were some of the best New Wave musicians? The Thompson Twins, Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Howard Jones and many others have to be considered the best New Wave bands.
You may see this and wonder why I didn't include U2 and The Police- both of who many lumped in with the New Wave movement. However both bands, especially The Police, feel like old fashioned rock bands to me. Other bands that were lumped in with New Wave, that I don't really consider New Wave, include The Talking Heads, Men At Work, Elvis Costello, The Go-Go's, The Eurythmics and David Bowie. Duran Duran was lumped in with the New Wave crowd and I'm not sure they are truly a New Wave band.
Part 5 of this blog is essential the same as this blog, but I had added most of the videos for Part 6 so I'm just going to go with it.

Black musicians such as Salt-N-Pepa, Terence Trent D'arby, Prince, Michael and Janet Jackson, Living Colour, Public Enemy, Anita Baker, Vanessa Williams, Tina Turner had many big hits between 1987 and 1989. Also there were many others and a few one or two hit wonders that joined the hit parade. All that adds up to a great 3 year run for all of music, specifically black musicians.

If you get the chance to go see The Darkness, go ahead and do it. My concert girlfriend and I saw The Darkness last night, hey put on an amazing show. Justin Hawkins went into the crowd twice, including singing "I Believe In A Thing" with guitar, mic stand . Here are five of the best songs by The Darkness. I'll also include a few songs by Mark Daly and the Ravens, who was the opening act. Daly and the Ravens were great as well. This concert was at the Depot in Salt Lake City, not one of our bigger venues. It's still a great place to see a show. One of the things I love most about smaller venues is we were able to visit and talk with Mark Daly and his band after the show.
These first five songs are by The Darkness. 1) "Growing On Me":

These are my 17 most played 70s songs. That's except for "What Is And What Should Never Be" from the "BBC Sessions". The show was recorded in the early 70s, but it wasn't released until 1997. Other than the Dolly Parton song, all of these songs are rock songs. I'm surprised my most played Disco song isn't until number 19. The 70s were such a rich amd amazing time for music.

Let's go back 5 years and see what the best songs of 2020 were. I recognize so very few songs from that year. I'm sure I would recognize more if I heard them and I'll probably rediscover a few of those. This is going to be one of those blogs that there's still a lot of great music out there. Just because a song isn't a so-called "hit" doesn't mean it's not great. Here are many of the best songs of 2020 whether it was a hit or not. A few months ago I received an e-mail from a classmate from the high school from where we graduated. This past summer was our 40th anniversary of graduating from high school. I thought that was very rude e-mail as there's no way I graduated from high school 40 years ago. That and hearing Echo and the Bunnymen "Bring On The Dancing Horses" inspired this blog. These are the best songs from 1982 to 1986, all genres. These were four years were some of the greatest years in the history of the music.
