amazon.com currently has 2,379 MP3 CDs on sale for only $5.00 each. So as a favor to you I looked through all 99 pages of these MP3s. I did it so you didn't have to do it. I was looking for hidden gems. I have to be honest with you I didn't find that many. However here are some of the highlights.

First up is The Heavy. According to multiple people on youtube.com, The Heavy are the first band that David Letterman has ever asked to do an encore on his show. The below song is from the CD "The House That Dirt Built".

I knew they had some good songs, but they were never a must listen for me. However I love their "Live At Wembley" CD and was pleasantly surprised how good they sound on this CD. Firing Skip Peete and Rob Ryan: Is This The "Changes" Jerry Jones Is Talking About? (Updated 1/9/13)

With Jones firing the running backs coach and the defensive coordinator, the cheerleading coordinator better be frightened. Because when you aren't firing the person that's the main problem, you are only creating scapegoats. Peete and Ryan are the first of who knows how many scapegoats there will be.

Yesterday the Cowboys announced that they had fired their running back coach, Skip Peete.  Peete is the first of what may be many firings, he's a scapegoat fired for the GM's inadequacies. Wouldn't injury prone running backs and an inept offensive line point more to a bad GM than to an ineffective running back coach? Jones said he was going to make "changes" and by golly he's going to do it. He's making changes for changes sake, not to improve things. These changes are about as effective as arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. These are changes that are inconsequential, not the real changes that the Cowboys need. This is typical of the dysfunctional thinking of the dysfunctional Cowboys. (Should they just change their name to the Dysfunctional Cowboys?) Too bad we already know the GM won't be fired ever, no matter how bad he is.

Some people, for instance Ed Werder,  suggest Jerry is doing this to pave the way for Norv Turner to return to Dallas as offensive coordinator. Werder says that Turner would probably want to bring his own staff. Obviously Turner would  be an upgrade over the weak play calling of Jason Garrett, but is Turner the answer? Turner would probably look at this as his foot in the door to become Cowboys head coach for when Garrett gets fired. And unless Garrett quits, he'll be getting fired sooner rather than later. I have a feeling that Turner isn't going to end up in Dallas. Well unless Jones throws crazy amounts of money at him or gives him a lot of power.

Now Jerry has gone and fired Rob Ryan, who understandably was pissed off. The defense was much better off than the offense and without several key contributors. So of course the defensive coordinator gets fired while the offensive coordinator/ alleged head coach are retained? Only in Jerry's idiot brain does this make any sense.

Again I urge all Cowboys fans to boycott the Cowboys until Jones steps down as GM of the Cowboys.  Coaches and players come and go and the still the Cowboys are mediocre. That's because Jones is the main problem. Until he quits or dies, the Cowboys will remain mediocre. How can someone so rich be so dumb? How did he ever become successful in the first place?

The Cowboys have taken so much tarnish off the star that following them is now difficult. I'm tired of following this loser team. Although I've been a fan for way too long to completely stop following them. I've also been cheering for the Buccaneers and 49ers the last few years. The Bucs are a team on the rise. And everyone knows how good the 49ers are. I'll be cheering for the 49ers this weekend when they welcome the Packers to Candlestick Park. It will be a battle, but I predict the 49ers advance to the NFC Conference Championship. I won't be surprised if they play Seattle in the NFC Championship.

Atlanta may be the NFC's #1 seed, but I just don't see them making it to the Super Bowl. I actually think that Seattle is going to beat them this week. For some reason Atlanta sports teams constantly choke. I've followed the Braves for years and every year they find some way to underachieve. The Falcons have done the same thing. There is just so much pressure on the Falcons to shed their choker reputation. At this point the Seahawks are playing with a lot of confidence.

Both NFC games this week should be great games.

I'll also be interested in seeing how the Seahawks and Broncos do this weekend. My oldest son cheers for the Broncos and my sister-in-law cheers for the Seahawks.

BYU Football Shake Up

BYU good news: Both Cody Hoffman and Kyle Van Noy have announced that they'll be staying for their senior seasons. I would have been behind any decision they made, but I'm very glad both are coming back. Hopefully Taysom Hill will be fully recovered and BYU will once again have a real quarterback. The last couple of years with Jake Heaps and Riley Nelson have been long.

Also I'm coming close to buying into this BYU Basketball Team. This is BYU's second season in the West Coast Conference. They are now 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the WCC. They have super senior Brandon Davies. Also they have two solid sophomores in Tyler Haws and Matt Carlino. They also have a bunch of solid players that surround them. Two indicators of how good this team could be will come on January 16th and January 24th.

On January 16th BYU welcomes Saint Mary's College to Provo. Currently the Gaels are 12-3 overall and 1-0 in the WCC. On January 24th BYU goes to Washington to play #10 Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the WCC. Thursday night should also be a great WCC game, Saint Mary's travels to play Gonzaga. The WCC is shaping up to be a three team race, but Gonzaga will probably win this conference.

On to BYU football: This past Friday it was announced that Robert Anae will be returning to BYU as their offensive coordinator. Brandon Doman, their previous OC, is mulling his options. He was their OC for two years. Their offense was less than stellar those two years, but I think that Doman should have been given at least one more year. It's hard to judge how good an OC can be when his two main quarterbacks were Riley Nelson (the left handed fullback) and Jake Heaps (the prima donna).

Of course maybe it evens out with BYU's brutal schedule next season:

So Anae and BYU will have their hands full next season. I'm thinking about using some of my tax refund money to buy season tickets again. BYU will finally have a good home schedule again next season. Texas, Utah, Boise State and Georgia Tech will all be coming to Provo. I love this schedule.

It will be interesting to see how the BYU offense looks next year with Anae, Hill and this brutal schedule. Go Cougs!

What You Can Do With a $15 iTunes Gift Card. (Plus A Bit More)

After Christmas ended and all the gifts were handed out, I still had a $15 iTunes gift card remaining. I decided to use it. I prefer buying actual CDs still (yes I'm old), but digital music is a good way to fill in blanks in my music collection. I keep a list of songs that I don't have yet, so when I do have some spare money I can buy more great songs. Also today I looked through the songs for 69c that iTunes has available now. Also I browsed iTunes a bit. So from my list and browsing the below are the songs that I bought today.

The first 4 songs are the 69c songs I bought.

I love No Doubt, but am not a big fan of their latest CD "Push and Shove". However I really like this song, "Looking Hot":



I'm not sure how I didn't have this song on my iTunes. This is only one of the many amazing songs from the 80's. "Separate Lives"- Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin:

The Smiths are one of my all-time favorite bands, I also love a lot of Morrissey's solo stuff. This is from the CD "Your Arsenal" and the best song from that CD. Morrissey's "Glamorous Glue":

This is another song that I can't believe I didn't have on my iTunes, Chris Deburgh's "Lady In Red":



This is one of those obscure 80's songs I found out about because of it's seemingly incessant play on MTV in the early 80's. (Of course this was back when MTV was relevant, before they started littering their airwaves with the stupidity of "Buck Wild" and "Jersey Shore".)



I wanted to buy this song, but for some reason it's not available on iTunes yet. I've been looking to add it to my collection for the last several months. This video only has 862 views, this is the Thompson Twins "Sugar Daddy":



While looking at these songs, I decided to browse other Thompson Twins songs. I loved the Twins back in the day, they had some of the best and most fun songs in the 80's. I already had most of their hits, but that didn't mean I had all their good songs. I ended up adding 3 more of their songs to my iTunes.

I'm surprised that this is the third most popular Thompson Twins song on iTunes, I vaguely remember it. It's on the soundtrack for one of my favorite 80's movies, "Sixteen Candles". This is "If You Were Here":

Jerry Jones Strikes Again!, The NFL's Most Clueless Owner

"I can assure our fans this, that it's going to be very uncomfortable from my standpoint, it's going to be very uncomfortable for the next few weeks and months at Valley Ranch."

With one playoff win since 1996, Jones said he will have to do something "almost unconventional" to break the franchise out of its down cycle.

"But how do we somehow create us an opportunity to kind of break out of this cycle -- drive across the water, if you will?" Jones said. "That's the challenge that I have right now."

There will be changes going forward, either in coaches, personnel or scheme.

"I can tell you change is necessary at 8-8," Jones said, later adding, "Change is in order when you spend the two seasons in a row down to the last two games and lose them, so we're going to have to have change. (Thanks to espn.com for the quotes from this article.)

Jerry if 8-8 needs to have changes, then why didn't you make any changes last season? It's time to get a real coach, a real GM and a quarterback that doesn't constantly choke in the clutch.

Cheering For NIU, Cheering Against The BCS (Updated 1/2/2013)

Today NIU plays Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Many people think that FSU will win in a blowout

I'm not a fan of NIU, in fact I don't know if I've ever heard of them before this season. Before today I couldn't have told you who their mascot (Huskies) or quarterback (Jordan Lynch) was.

You are probably wondering then why I'm cheering for the Huskies. One reason is that I love the underdog, especially in the ridiculous BCS system. A system set up to favor the big boys, whether they are worthy or not. The BCS represents everything that's bad about America. For instance, greed over fairness. Also the BCS did everything it could to become much more intelligent, dragging their feet all the way. Also the BCS is more about the needs of the few over the many. Thinking the BCS is a good idea is equivalent to thinking the Earth is flat in the time of Columbus.

Now granted NIU is in this game because of the BCS, but it's only a change the BCS made because of intense pressure. The BCS finally joined the rest of NCAA and went to a playoff system. In their greedy, self rewarding way they've locked in a 4 team playoff for 12 years.

Another reason that I'm cheering for the Huskies is due to the way the College Gameday idiots were mocking NIU today. Kirk Herbstreit was the worst, he's an idiot and BCS tool. The only way he said the Huskies have a chance to beat FSU is if the Seminoles don't care. That's extremely disrespectful and a sign that the so-called experts are drinking the Kool Aid of their BCS overlords. Yes, I realize that Georgia manhandled Hawaii a few years ago, but those kind of wins don't happen as much as the BCS would lead you to believe.

In FSU's last game the Seminoles were barely able to beat below average Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship Game. The supposedly powerful Seminoles were shut out in the second half of that game and needed an interception to win. The Seminoles six point victory elevated FSU to 11-2 and dropped Georgia Tech to 6-7. Georgia Tech was as good as their record indicates. I won't point out how easily an average BYU team beat Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

So yes I'm hoping that the Huskies join some of the other BCS busters from over the years. Some of the best college football games are when the so-called mid majors knock off one of the BCS big boys. I loved watching TCU shut Wisconsin down in the 2011 Rose Bowl. The Badgers were badgered by the Horned Frogs. I loved when my alma mater, Utah, punched Alabama in the face in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. Utah quickly went up 14-0 using a no huddle offense, completely catching Alabama off guard. The Crimson Tide were not prepared for that. Alabama made a bit of a comeback, but ultimately the Utes prevailed. I get tired of college football experts still making excuses for that Alabama team.

In my opinion the best football game ever is one of those games where the national pundits mocked the non-BCS team. In a game that happened six years ago from today, the Boise State Broncos knocked off the Oklahoma Sooners 43-42. I remember all the talk about how the Broncos didn't have a chance in that game, much like what people are saying about NIU now. BSU-Oklahoma was an incredible game of big plays and momentum shifts by both teams. Both teams played hard. Ultimately BSU won in overtime. Oklahoma didn't choke, as they played their hearts out. That's probably the first time many people saw the Statute of Liberty and hook and ladder plays.

And to all the people that say, yeah but what has Boise State done since then? Well for one, they've won their last 4 bowl games. Also BSU announcing yesterday they were staying in the MWC could be the final nail in the Big East's coffin.

Sadly NIU winning wasn't meant to be. The Huskies fought with a great deal of grit. They played tough and scrappy defense. They also used a couple of trick plays, both of which worked. The fake punt and the onside kick were both almost perfectly executed. A tip of the hat to NIU and their daredevil coach. It's amazing in the same season he moved from the offensive line coach to the head coach. Coach Rod Carey looks like he'll be a great coach.

But at the end of the day, it just wasn't in the cards. Kirk Herbstreit was right, the Seminoles were just too physically overpowering. People were worried about their motivation level, but they didn't need to be. FSU played like they cared about winning the game. A tip of the hat to the well coached and the hard playing Seminoles.

The athletes of both colleges represented their respective universities extremely well. I wish more games were played with so much class, grit and sportsmanship.

Also a tip of the hat to EJ Manuel's Mom. Her name is Jackie and she's currently battling cancer. Best wishes to EJ, Jackie and their whole family.
