I do my best to steer away from politics, but sometimes I need to vent my anger. Today is one of those days.
I'm so livid about what happened at the US Capitol today. When one man gets away with stupidity for so long and has a loyal manic following scenes like today will continue to happen. Although it's only 13 more days of this presidency we can't wait. We need to implement the 25th amendment. It's time to get rid of the conman and corrupt president. I need to vent and release tension through some of the greatest angry music ever.

Rock music, besides a few bands, albums and songs, was very anemic in 1999. The dominant music of that year was soul and hip hop, which I'm not a huge fan. That's not saying there isn't a lot of amazing soul, especially old school soul, and hip hop. In fact many of the songs below I don't know anything about by title and artist. My heart belongs to rock, pop and various smatterings of other genres' music. If the hard/ rock music was lacking how was the soft and mellow music of 1999? It was thankfully much better.

Prince sang about 1999 as the end of the world, "we're going to party like 1999". He could've been singing about the rock scene that year and what a colossal wasteland it was. 1999 was not rock's finest year. Even at the height of the Disco craze in 1979, rock had a better year. To put it mildly 1999 sucked for rock music. Prince's "1999" rocked more than many of the rock songs of 1999.
If it wasn't for Creed (I know a lot of people didn't like them, but they were one of the rockingest bands of that year), Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots (not their best CD, but still), Live, Incubus, Blink-182 and Rage Against The Machine 1999 might have been the wussiest year ever. It still might be. How did I survive that year in rock? Obviously by listening to all the great music from previous years.
I've been arguing with myself about a song is a hit in two different years but it was part of the same release which year should I count that for. Well I decided I'm just going to count it for both.
I've never been so disappointed with a rock year before. I hope 2009 is better when I get to that year. I don't think anyone can argue that 1999 was a terrible rock year, how was 2000 as a rock year? Well let's find out. Doubtful that it could be worse.

Welcome to 2021, we survived what hopefully was the worst year of many of our lives. Although to be fair it wasn't that terrible of a year for me. I was blessed beyond what I'm worthy of and so grateful for those blessings. I'm trying to pay it forward a bit since I've been so blessed.
