(Finished December 14th, 2022) Part 4 of The Best of New Wave

Hello,

It's again about time to relive that great time of the early to mid 80s of New Wave music. New Wave is a genre that has quirky people, quairly lyrics and quirky music. It doesn't work all the time, but when it work at it's best the songs are great.

What exactly is/ was New Wave music. Well two things New Wave typically is energetic and fun. New Wave never took itself too seriously. The lyrics weren't serious. New Wave is basically just fun upbeat music to dance to. Who were some of the best New Wave musicians? The Thompson Twins, Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Howard Jones and many others have to be considered the best New Wave bands.

You may see this and wonder why I didn't include U2 and The Police- both of who many lumped in with the New Wave movement. However both bands, especially The Police, feel like old fashioned rock bands to me. Other bands that were lumped in with New Wave, that I don't really consider New Wave, include The Talking Heads, Men At Work, Elvis Costello, The Go-Go's, The Eurythmics  and David Bowie. Duran Duran was lumped in with the New Wave crowd and I'm not sure they are truly a New Wave band.

54) The Smiths "How Soon Is Now":

(Finished December 13th, 2022) Part 7 of Classic Rock Songs That Continue To Resonate Today

Hello,

This is another blog inspired by music from "Reacher". Oscar Finlay is a man that loves a good old 80s rock jam, meanwhile Reacher is more of a Blues guy. Two different blog series have been inspired by music from "Reacher". First it was classic ballads inspired by "Crazy". Now it's mostly great 80s rock inspired by "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Caught Up In You". I so love hearing these songs again, they bring back so many memories. Thankfully most of those memories are great.

Now my definition of classic rock is not your typical classic rock definition. First of all I hate the phrase classic rock- all rock music is just rock. I include in these series of blogs songs that rock, but aren't your standard rock music you'd hear on classic rock radio. (I typed those last three words with my head in a barf bag.) If a song has rock lyrics I consider it a rock song.

Nearly everyone can feel the longing in this song. 103) Bruce Springsteen "I'm On Fire":

104) Neil Young "Piece of Crap":

105) Prince and Sheena Easton "U Got The Look":

106) Head East "Never Been Any Reason":

107) Deep Purple "Smoke On The Water":

108) Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing":

109) Stevie Nicks "Edge of Seventeen":

110) The Cars "Since You're Gone":

111) ZZ Top "La Grange":

112) The Doors "Love Street":

113) The Animals "House of the Rising Sun":

114) Missing Persons "Walking In L.A.":

115) Linkin Park "In The End":

116) Sammy Hagar "Three Lock Box":

117) Triumph "Fight The Good Fight":

118) Queensryche "Silent Lucidity":

119) Soundgarden "Blow Up The Outside World":

(Finished December 11th, 2022) Great Sad Songs, Part 11, Songs 184-200

Hello,

I love, love, love Christmas movies. I also love, love, love Christmas music. Tonight I watched the movie "The Christmas Shoes" and it was as sappy as I expected. I also cried like I thought I might. The movie is what you think it will be. However I haven't decided if the song is a Christmas classic or a manipulative piece of crap. For me I have grown to love it over the years. I felt like maybe it's time for a sad song blog. This continues a series of blogs that I started in 2020 and I know that there will be some duplicates.

184) Celine Dion "It's All Coming Back To Me Now":

185) Fergie "Big Girls Don't Cry":

186) Chantal Kreviazuk "Leaving On A Jet Plane":

One of the saddest songs ever. 187) Peter, Paul and Mary "Puff The Magic Dragon":

More angry and defiant than sad, but still sad. 199) "Voices Carry":

(Finished December 7th, 2022) The Best Songs of 1983-1986, Part 8: Songs 131-147

Hello,

This blog is inspired by Season 3 of "Cobra Kai", which takes me back to that extremely fertile time in music of 1983-1986. These are the best of the best songs for those four years. So many of these songs are from 80s movies. The first two blogs in this series have a lot of songs from movies. The other blogs also have movie related songs. I can't remember how many music videos were just basically clips of the movie that song was from. With great 80s music and movies it was such a great time to grow up.

What CDs, songs, soundtrack etc. were being released these 4 years? These were the years of "Thriller", "Purple Rain" (best soundtrack ever), "Footloose", "Pretty In Pink" (not only a great movie, but a great soundtrack that really captures the music of it's time). Also this was the era of New Wave, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Def Leppard from getting their foot into the door to when they became the biggest band in the world, "We Are The World", Live Aid, "Karate Kid" and it's great music, Also only of the funkiest CDs ever produced, David Bowie's "Let's Dance", CDs started replacing albums and cassettes as the most popular way to listen to music

Number one overall songs of 1983) The Police "Every Breath You Take", 1984) Prince "When Doves Cry", 1985) Wham! "Careless Whisper" and 1986) "That's What Friends Are For":

Number one overall albums of 1983 and 1984) Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Yes it was a monster. 1985) Bruce Springsteen "Born In The U.S.A.", 1986) Whitney Houston self-titled.

Top overall country songs of each year according to playback.fm. 1983) Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers "Island In the Stream" 1984) Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" 1985) Kenny Rogers "Morning Desire"- since I barely heard this song back in the day, I doubt this really was the 1985 #1 country song and from playlistresearch.com 1986) The Judds "Grandpa (Tell Me About The Good Old Days".

Many times I just want to go back and listen to the amazing music of the 80s, thanks for coming along.

131) Jackson Browne "Lawyers In Love":

132) Alphaville "Forever Young":

133) ABC "How To Be A Zillionaire":

134) Boston "We're Ready":

135) Eurythmics "Here Comes The Rain Again":

136) Mike Reno and Ann Wilson "Almost Paradise":

137) USA For Africa "We Are The World":

138) Depeche Mode "A Question of Time":

139) Haysi Fantayzee "Shiny Shiny":
