2) "Brand New Lover" ("I see safety there... I want surprises"):
Yeah I know this is the obvious choice for their #1 song, since it's their best song that makes perfect sense. Please just keep Flo Rida away from any other 80's classics. 1) "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" (Murder Mix):
It looks like Tony Romo returning as a starter for the Dallas Cowboys isn't as a sure thing as it was when he was originally injured. Since he was injured, again, Dak Precott has emerged as more than a capable quarterback. He recently broke the record for most passes at the start of a career without an interception, breaking the record previously held by Tom Brady. Entering this eighth weekend of action, Prescott leads ALL quarterbacks in terms of Quarterback Ranking (QBR).
Meanwhile in the other corner you have Tony Romo, the Cowboys starting quarterback for an unbelievable ten years. One of the most overrated over hyped quarterbacks of all-time. The only reason he's played this long is because Cowboys owner/ poor decision maker loves him. Jones continues to desperately try to show that he's a football expert- although his Cowboys teams have become a shell of what they once were. The Cowboys have been on a steady downhill track ever since Jimmy Johnson was pushed out. Johnson got deservedly most of the credit for the Cowboys dynasty in the mid 90's, and Jones was just not going to let that abide.
Pretty much every football decision Jones has made has been horrendous. Brandon Carr, Greg Hardy, many poor draft and free agency picks, making Wade Phillips , Barry Switzer, Jason Garrett, Dave Campo coaches, giving up two draft picks for Morris Claiborne. Also resigning Tony Romo a few years ago to $115 million dollar contract, not getting a decent backup quarterback last season and Jones still making most of the football decisions. I could go on, but I won't.
Finally Jerry Jones is letting other people, much smarter people, make decisions. The Cowboys seem to slowly be making positive strides. The drafting of Prescott was a great pick, although he basically fell into the Cowboys' hands. They had several chances to pick him and repeatedly picked other players over him in the recent draft. Slowly the Cowboys are getting smarter, however everyone knows that Jason Garrett is still a puppet. For the Cowboys to resume being a great team, they need to get rid of Romo, Garrett and the entire Jones family. The Cowboys make a hell a lot of money, but what once was the greatest franchise in the NFL has deteriorated since Johnson left.
Since Jones has loosened his death grip on the Cowboys, they have been better. Although Jones played offensive line at Arkansas, he never spent a lot of time in getting a great offensive line. He prefers signing players with flash. But as nearly every football fan will tell you, your offense won't go without a great offensive line. Recently the Cowboys have increased the quality of their offensive line. That line now may be the best unit in the NFL, opening holes for Ezekial Elliot, protecting and giving a lot of time to Prescott etc. But even that great line can't always protect Romo. It doesn't help that Romo likes holding on to the ball too long trying to make the play. Sometimes he does make the big play, but more of the time he gets sacked or throws yet another interception.
I grew up as a Cowboys fan, but have become incensed with the futility of the Jones ownership. I actually cheer more against the Cowboys now than for them. I keep on hoping things get so bad that the Jones sell- I know that's an extreme long shot. It would go back to people not caring what Jones says again. But I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Cowboys and would like to be able to cheer for them guilt free once again. I won't be able to do that completely until they get rid of the entire Jones family, Garrett and Tony Romo.
Following the Cowboys bye week the question for this weekend becomes Dak or Tony, who will start against the Eagles on Sunday Night Football? We can see how much control on making decisions Jones has let go. If Prescott gets the start we know that the lunatics aren't entirely running the asylum any more. But if Jerry is still making the biggest decisions, his boy Tony will start the game. Because when your name is Jerry Jones, you make bad decisions. That's what you do.
It's time to let the Romo era end and let the Prescott era start for good.
The World Series starts tonight in Cleveland. Nothing against the Indians, but go Cubs! I predict the Cubs in 6 and of course the celebration in Chicago would be huge.
There isn't a video for this song that I could find. 19) "Sightseeing":
What I feel like in the numbers driven world of corporate America: 18) "Feel Like A Number":
First of all I'd like to congratulate the Chicago Cubs for their inspired race to the World Series. It has felt like the Cubs were a team of destiny, which of course doesn't mean they are. But they have finally broken the shackles that have held them back for so many years. They are going to their first World Series in 71 years- a lot can happen in 71 years. But the last time they actually won the World Series was 108 years. Die hard Cubs fans and fans of dark humor have been known to say, "anyone can have a bad century". The Cubs have a bright future now with such young studs as Javier Baez and Willson Contreras.
I'm a bit of a sports bigamist, I also love the Dodgers. I have been following them all my life. The team gets incrementally better each season. I hope next year the Dodgers have more people that can hit than just Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Turner.
At this point I'm skipping the # 52 80's musician, but I will get to him soon.
Now on to the Top 28 80's era songs by Bob Seger, both with and without the Silver Bullet Band:
Without further adieu, here's the plus one song on this countdown. The reason why it's a plus one and not in the countdown is because it isn't the entire Bon Jovi band.
This is the plus one: please sing with me "shot down in a Blaze of Glory":
9) "Wild Is The Wind":
8) "Runaway":
7) "Never Say Never":
6) "Blood on Blood":
5) "Lay Your Hands On Me":
4) "Born To Be My Baby":
3) "On The Edge of a Broken Heart":
It's so hard not to put this amazing rock song in at #1... 2) "Wanted Dead Or Alive":
... but this song remains slightly better. 1) "Livin' On A Prayer":
You probably haven't noticed, but I've gone back and finished a lot of blogs. I started this two blog Avril Lavigne series back on July 5th and just finished Part 1 today, October 17th, Well here's part two, these are the 10 best songs of Avril Lavigne.
This is the second part of a two part Styx blog. I just barely realized I hadn't completed this blog set. Part 1 is finished, but until now I hadn't started working on part 2. This blog covers the #8 to #1 songs from 1975's "Equinox" through 1978's "Pieces of Eight". "Equinox" is when Styx started having notable songs. Before then the most notable song they released was 1973's "Lady". I know hard core Styx fans may disagree, which is fine. Besides "Lady" and "Equinox", this blog also covers 1976's "Crystal Ball", 1977's "Grand Illusion" and 1978's "Pieces of Eight". These are the # 8 to # 1 songs from that time frame. Part 1 of this blog set was finished on June 28th, 2016.
These two blogs cover the above named CDs. The next Styx blog will cover the CDs "Cornerstone", "Paradise Theatre", "Kilroy Was Here" and 1990's "Edge of The Century. I'm going to try and contain all those songs in just one blog.
I was having limited time and limited access to my computer when I originally wrote the Greatest 80's musicians blogs for #71 Foreigner, # 70 Bryan Adams and # 69 Stevie Nicks. I picked 7 of their best songs, posted videos of those songs and published. That's not very satisfying for me as I like figuring out and writing the countdown blogs for most of these bands. So eventually I will publish at least one or two countdown blogs for each band.
