(Finished June 29th, 2023) Part 2 of The Best Rock, Pop, Soul and New Wave Songs of 1981

Hello,

On August 1st, 1981 MTV played The Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star" and the music industry was forever changed. Some would argue for the worst, but I think it was for the best. I spent many a hour watching MTV back in the day. I know it's hard to believe now but hey really did play videos 24 hours a day. With YouTube and so many other options one can watch most videos any time they want. But back in 1981 watching a video was pretty damn cool.

These are the best rock, pop, soul and new wave songs of 1981. I love listening to these old songs once again.

18) Rush "Red Barchetta":

19) The Human League "Don't You Want Me":

20) The Go-Go's "We Got The Beat":

21) Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes":

22) ELO "Hold On Tight":

23) The Rolling Stones "Start Me Up":

24) Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight":

25) Journey "Don't Stop Believin'":

26) Duran Duran "Girls On Film":

27) Quincy Jones featuring Dune and Patti Austin "Ai No Corrida":

28) Pat Benatar "Fire and Ice":

29) James Taylor and J.D. Souther "Her Town Too":

30) Styx "Snowblind":

31) Foreigner "Urgent":

(Finished June 25th, 2023) Part 6 of Apple's Top 200 Most Streamed 80s Songs 100-81

Hello,

Holy hell I'm in an 80s mood. After seeing David Bowie and Depeche Mode tribute bands and the actual Love and Rockets I've heard a lot of great 80s music live this year. Later this year I'll be seeing the Lost 80s tour which feature bands such as Wang Chung, General Public, Naked Eyes and others. And tonight I'll be seeing Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers and Chic and Bastille. With all that going on I'll be doing an 80s blog, but I desperately wanted to do something different than I've done before.  Thus I Googled for the best selling 80s songs of all-time.

I normally would go to Billboard for this kind of thing, however I didn't want to pay for access for that. I continued Googling and came across a list of the most streamed songs on Apple Music. For some reason there are only 199 songs on their Top 200, that gives me the option to provide my own song at #200. There are some very unusual songs on this list, including songs I've never heard of. But that's why I wanted a list like that to force me to include songs that I don't usually share.

I'm considering coming up with a second set of blogs about songs that I can't believe aren't on this list.

100) Billy Joel "We Didn't Start The Fire":

99) The Proclaimers "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)":

98) Men At Work "Down Under":

97) UB40 "Kingston Town":

96) Depeche Mode "Just Can't Get Enough":

95) Michael Jackson "Bad":

This isn't a sentiment I share. I agree 100% that people have the right to say what they feel, no matter how heinous it is. But this is my blog and I choose not to share the video for this song. There are several other places you can hear this song if you want, you just won't hear it on this blog. 94) N.W.A. "F... The Police":

93) The Stone Roses "Fools Gold":

After two less than amazing songs, here's one of the 80s greatest songs ever. 92) Tina Turner "What's Love Got To Do With It":

91) Joy Division "Love Will Tear Us Apart":

90) Black Box "Ride On Time":

89) AC/DC "Shoot To Thrill":

88) Bon Jovi "You Give Love A Bad Name":

87) Michael Jackson "Dirty Diana":

86) Marvin Gaye "Sexual Healing":

Alright who was the big Stone Roses fan who gamed the rankings on this list? 85) The Stone Roses "She Bangs The Drums":

84) Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love":

83) Abba "The Winner Takes It All":

82) Madonna "Material Girl":

I don't know if this is the sweetest, most maudlin or both song ever. I get it Moz, as us those to that are his buddies, call him is a fan of self loathing/ mocking himself. But although the lyrics are awkward I'm going to lean on the side of sweet for this song. One of the top three best songs of The Smiths. 81) The Smiths "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out":

(Finished June 24th, 2023) Part 1 of The Best of the Best- The Most Deserving Diamond Certified CDs

Hello,

These are the best of the best diamond certified CDs. I will only be focusing on original CDs and not any greatest hits collections. I'll only make an exception for Bob Marley's "Legend". I know that's a greatest hits collection, but it seems it was meant to raise awareness of the great music of Bob Marley and The Wailers. Not all Diamond CDs are equal. I'll post the six best songs from each CD.

It seems sensible to start with the greatest CD of all-time. 1) Led Zeppelin "4":

1) "Black Dog":

2) "Rock and Roll":

3) "Stairway To Heaven":

4) "Misty Mountain Hop":

5) "Going To California":

6a) Playing For Change featuring John Paul Jones "When The Levee Breaks":

6b) Robert Plant and Alison Krauss "When The Levee Breaks":

2) Michael Jackson "Thriller":

1) "Wanna Be Starting Something":

2) "Thriller":

3) "Beat It":

4) "Billie Jean":

5) "Human Nature":

6) "P,Y,T, (Pretty Young Thing)":

3) "Back In Black":

1) "Hells Bells":

2) "Shoot To Thrill";

3) "Back In Black":

4) "You Shook Me All Night Long":

5) "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution":
