Hello,
Holy hell I'm in an 80s mood. After seeing David Bowie and Depeche Mode tribute bands and the actual Love and Rockets I've heard a lot of great 80s music live this year. Later this year I'll be seeing the Lost 80s tour which feature bands such as Wang Chung, General Public, Naked Eyes and others. And tonight I'll be seeing Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers and Chic and Bastille. With all that going on I'll be doing an 80s blog, but I desperately wanted to do something different than I've done before. Thus I Googled for the best selling 80s songs of all-time.
I normally would go to Billboard for this kind of thing, however I didn't want to pay for access for that. I continued Googling and came across a list of the most streamed songs on Apple Music. For some reason there are only 199 songs on their Top 200, that gives me the option to provide my own song at #200. There are some very unusual songs on this list, including songs I've never heard of. But that's why I wanted a list like that to force me to include songs that I don't usually share.
I'm considering coming up with a second set of blogs about songs that I can't believe aren't on this list.
If this song isn't in the Top 200 streaming songs it's a shame Melle Mel and Grandmaster Flash "White Lines (Don't Do It)":
199) Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime":
198) David Bowie "Modern Love":
This should be the second time I get to hear this song live this year. Earlier I saw a very good David Bowie tribute band, they performed a very funky version of "Modern Love". Tonight I'll be seeing Nile Rodgers & Chic who likely will perform the David Bowie classic. Nile Rodgers co-produced the original version of this song. When seeing it live I want the full version not a 1:20 snippet:
197) Billy Ocean "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Gets Going":
196) Berlin "Take My Breath Away":
You'll quickly find out that a lot of Fleetwood Mac fans stream on Apple Music. I thought to myself how can this song be on this list. Then I saw the incredibly beautiful and heard the incredible voice of Stevie Nicks. And of course the entire band is amazing. 195) Fleetwood Mac "Seven Wonders":
Simply one of the greatest songs of all time. 194) U2 "One":
193) Michael Jackson "Human Nature":
I can't say this often about an 80s song, but I have never heard of this song. 192) Deacon Blue "Dignity":
191) Queen "Save Me":
Easily one of the 80s best ballads. 190) Patrick Swayze featuring Wendy Fraser "She's Like The Wind":
189) Duran Duran "Hungry Like The Wolf":
188) George Michael "A Different Corner":
187) Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone":
186) Bonnie Tyler "Holding Out For A Hero":
I remember experiencing this song live back in the early 80s. 185) AC/DC "Hells Bells":
184) Michael Jackson featuring Siedah Garrett "I Just Can't Stop Loving You":
I have never heard of this song before, but it's pretty cool. I was surprised I know one of The Stone Roses songs "Here Comes Your Man". 183) The Stone Roses "Made of Stone":
Can you feel the longing? 182) Bruce Springsteen "I'm On Fire":
181) The Stranglers "Golden Brown":
