(Finished December 28th, 2024) Part 3 of themusicaddict's Final Greatest Songs of All-Time

Hello,

These are my greatest songs of all-time. These are those songs that I absolutely love. I'll also be creating a second set of songs that are almost a greatest song of all-time but doesn't quite reach that rarefied air. All of these songs I've listened to hundreds of times but still can't get enough.

I've started working on several different permutations of these blogs, but this is the final blog series for this topic. I've put a lot of work into this so that it will be comprehensive, but I can also add new songs as time goes on. For instance when I started this blog series I had never heard of Chappell Roan. But now I love "Hot To Go". There will be other songs that meet this same criteria.

35) Abba "The Winner Takes It All":

36) Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman "Phantom of The Opera":

37) Tracy Chapman "Fast Car":

38) The Dead Milkmen "Punk Rock Girl":

Hello,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Since I've been sharing countdowns from 1984 and listening to all those great songs again, I thought I would post a series of blogs with the greatest songs of 1984.

Notable events of 1984 include the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Steve Jobs launches the Mac in a world of primitive PCs, this commercial:

"Purple Rain"- all that incredible music and a dopey movie- Geraldine Ferraro, Tetris, "Footloose", "Sixteen Candles" (which also means the lovely Molly Ringwald, "Ghostbusters", Eddie Murphy, the first MTV Video Music Awards, "Do They Know It's Christmas" and Marvin Gaye is killed.

Best movies of 1984 include those mentioned above, "The Terminator", "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom", "Gremlins", "Beverly Hills Cop", "The Karate Kid", "1984" (of course), "Top Secret", "The Natural" (still a great movie), "Revenge of the Nerds" and "Splash".

(Finished December 22nd, 2024) Part 32 of themusicaddict's Actual Greatest Songs Of All-Time

Hello,

Another Greatest Songs of All-Time issued from on high by Rolling Stone magazine. I love that magazine and have been a subscriber since approximately the early 80s. I understand that a lot of people have different tastes in music. That's the way it should be, but like everyone else I have my own opinions. Just as fervently as I agree with some of their choices I also disagree with some of their choices. Currently I'm working on my Top 100 Songs of All-Time and honorable mentions. There are just some songs that I can't not include in the Greatest Songs of All-Time. I started with 100 Greatest Songs of All-Time. That has inched up to several hundred songs and will continue to rise. For this blog I'm going to focus on the actual Greatest Songs Of All Time, not the honorable mentions. These are songs that are ranked outside of my Top 100 GSOAT.

These lists are very fluid. Most of these songs could have also been in my All-Time Top 100 if only I had thought of them earlier. There are probably at least 700 songs that will always be in my GSOAT. Again these are GSOAT, just outside my Top 100 GSOAT.

I don't think I have published my actual Top 100 greatest songs of all-time, I might start that soon. I was reminded of many of the below songs by perusing Rolling Stone's Top 500 songs of all-time.

439) Depeche Mode "Enjoy The Silence":

440) Merle Haggard "Mama Tried":

441) Bonnie Raitt "I Can't Make You Love Me":

442) Prince "1999":

443) The Temptations "The Way You Do The Things You Do":

444) Procol Harum "A Whiter Shade of Pale":

445) Neil Young "Heart of Gold":

446) Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive":

447) Jerry Lee Lewis "Great Balls of Fire":

448) New Order "Blue Monday":

449) The Smiths "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out":

450) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Free Fallin'":

(Finished December 19th, 2024) The Eight Best of "Les Miserables", "Evita" and "Phantom of The Opera":

Hello,

Yes another blog inspired by my long walks listening to my iPod. "Think of Me" was the inspiration this time. I was going to try and stick with seven songs, but that was just not enough.

First up "Les Miserables", the Broadway play over the music by far. The movie needs to be remade with every character being able to sing, especially Javert:

Let's start off with the ribald choice first. 1) Ruthie Henshall, Philip Quast, Colm Wilkinson and "Les Mis" cast "Lovely Ladies"/ "Fantine's Arrest"/ "Runaway Cart":

2a) The 1987 Tony Awards "At The End of the Day"/ "One Day More":

2b) "At The End of The Day":

3) Colm Wilkinson "Who Am I-The Trial":

4) "The Robbery- Javert's Intervention":

5) Colm Wilkinson and Philip Quast "The Confrontation":

6) "Master of The House":

7) "Do You Hear The People Sing":

8) Norm Lewis "Stars":

I preferred the movie over seeing this on stage. Next is "Phantom of the Opera":

9) Lindsey Stirling "Phantom of The Opera Medley":

10a) Sarah Brightman "Think of Me":

10b) Jackie Evancho "Think of Me":

Alright one more, 10c) The lovely Emmy Rossum "Think of Me":

11) Sarah Brightman "Angel of Music":

12) "Overture":

13) "Masquerade":

14) Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman "Phantom of the Opera":

Goosebumps alert. 15) Sarah Brightman "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again":

16) Minnie Driver and "Phantom" cast "Prima Donna":

Encore Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson "Down Once More/ Track Down The Murderer":

Finally from "Evita":

She has an unusual last name, but the woman can sang. 17) Samantha Barks "Another Suitcase In Another Hall":

18) The amazing Madonna with one of the most joyous songs ever. "Buenos Aires":

19) Antonio Banderas "And The Money Kept Rolling In":

20) Madonna and cast "Rainbow Tour":

21) Antonio Banderas and Madonna "High Flying, Adored":

22) "Peron's Latest Flame":

23) Madonna "A New Argentina":

24) Antonio Banderas "Oh What A Circus":

(Finished December 16th, 2024) Part 1 of Classic Rock's Albums of 2023

Hello,

These are the Top 50 CDs of 2023 as according to Classic Rock magazine. Many of these bands or albums I've never heard of, obviously that doesn't mean they aren't good. I actually own only a few of these CDs. What I'm going to do is to add the song that Classic Rock picked for each CD. If I like that song I'll add another song to the blog. I'll do that until I run out of songs I like, up to 5 songs. I like rock music so it's quite likely I will like a lot of the songs from these 50 CDs.  If I don't like Classic Rock's selected song then that's all I will add here.

50) Paul Rodgers "Midnight Rose":

With just the first few notes I knew I'd be adding at least one more song from Rodgers. "Living It Up":

"Take Love":

"Coming Home":

"Photo Shooter":

"Midnight Rose":

First two bands get five songs each? These blogs may take forever to finish. 49) Green Lung "This Heathen Land" "One For Sorrow":

"Maxine (Witch Queen)":

"Mountain Throne":

"The Forest Church":

"Hunters In The Sky":

48) The Defiants "Drive" "19 Summertime":

"Miracle":

"The Night To Remember":

"Go Big or Go Home":

"Hey Life":

47) Brothers Osborne "Brothers Osborne" "Nobody's Nobody":

"Might As Well Be Me":

"The Sun Ain't Even Gone Down Yet":

"Goodbye's Kickin' In":

"Ain't Nobody Got Time For That":
