Hello,

The 80's produced some of the greatest music ever. Such acts as Prince, Michael and Janet Jackson, Madonna, Def Leppard and I could go on and on reached their peak. Having said all of that though, there were still some clunkers in the 80s. This will be the shortest of all my 80's music blogs because there just weren't a whole lot of bad songs in the 80s.

There were songs that I hated initially, but sort of got used to after awhile. Songs like Boys Don't Cry's "I Wanna Be A Cowboy" and Timbuk 3's "The Future's So Bright That I Gotta Wear Shades". But now I can listen to those songs without cringing very much.

Dodgers Daily, August 18th, 2013: Dodgers Lose, Dodgers Lose I Can't Believe The Dodgers Lost.

Sunday was the final game in the 3 game series between the Dodgers and the Phillies, LA had won the first two games and shut out the Phillies in both. On Sunday the Dodgers jumped out to a 2-0 lead and I thought they had the game in the bag. Yes, that's how much confidence I have in the Dodgers of late. Who can blame me after they won 10 in a row and 42 0f 50? The Dodgers are hot and playing at a high level. I won't call this LA team a team of destiny yet, but there certainly is some magic working in their favor.

I was surprised when I got home from church today and found out they had lost 3-2, in fact I was very surprised. Being a completely normal fan I started worrying that this could be when the Dodgers go back to playing like crap. I'm comforted though that they will be playing MLB's lowest scoring team over the next 4 days. LA will be playing the Marlins, who've scored all of 396 runs. They are the only team in MLB to not have broken the 400 run mark. They have scored 64 runs fewer than the 29th lowest scoring team, the White Sox.

For the first few innings I thought that Andre Ethier was going to be the player of the game. In the second inning he hit his 9th home run of the season. That gives the struggling slugger, hitting .270 this season, his 44th RBI of the season. Ethier has been playing better of late, he's no longer hitting in the .250s. In the 4th inning Jerry Hairston Jr. drove in Ethier for his second run of the game. Sadly that was the final score of the game for the Dodgers.

Philadelphia scored the next 3 runs to win the game. Hanley Ramirez is the goat of the day, I'm going to give him a pass though. Sure he committed 2 errors in the 9th inning, but without his high level of play I'd hate to see where the Dodgers would be. He and Yasiel Puig have been the catalyst for this historic Dodgers run. (I love Puig's aggression I just wish he would be more careful running the bases.)

Brandon League ended with the loss. He's not my favorite Dodgers player but no one can blame him for the loss. He got the hitters to hit the ball to the infielder and sadly Ramirez fumbled the play. I won't torture myself thinking if Don Mattingly had put in more of a strikeout pitcher (Kenley Jansen!) into the game then possibly Ramirez wouldn't have booted the ball.

But I'm not going to complain, it's a great time to be a Dodgers fan. Thanks to the Dodgers for all the great memories this season and here's to many more. And if nothing else, thankfully the team is owned by someone who knows what they are doing once again.

themusicaddict's 80s Romantic Music (Not To Be Confused With Baby Making Music)

I decided to break down my Mega 80's music blog into several different categories, I won't be changing my original Mega 80's music blog. I'll be taking the same categories and expanding on each theme and I'll also be adding new categories. For instance how did I miss the music of 80's music? I enjoy making these kind of blogs and I hope you enjoy them to. As always I welcome all comments, both negative and positive. All you have to do is to leave a comment and I see it almost immediately.

This music category is romantic music. I've added videos in hopes people can watch those on this blog. Dodgers Daily: August 17th, 2013: Dodgers Win Again, 10 In A Row

LA beat the Phillies 5-0 tonight meaning the Dodgers have won the first two games against the Phillies in this 3 game series. LA has won 10 straight games as Philadelphia hasn't scored a run in either game. Not that you would know it by the results but these games are being played in Philadelphia. I've always had a great amount of respect for Phillies interim manager Ryne Sandberg. He was a great Cub and it seems he's paid his dues in working his way up the managing ranks. Unfortunately for him his first test is this struggling Phillies team. I'm not sure how much he can do at this late point in the season but the Dodgers aren't making his life any easier.

Not much to report about this game, other than it was the Clayton Kershaw show. He finally received some run support. Once again he provided some of his own run support, he doubled to left field in the 5th inning driving in Juan Uribe. That gave the Dodgers a 2 run lead, which was one more run than was needed to win the game. Kershaw pitched 8 innings, only giving up 3 hits and no runs. He added 8 more strikeouts to his already impressive resume. Kershaw is tied for second in MLB in strikeouts. He's at 182 strikeouts right now and well on his way to 200+. Kershaw improves to 12-7 and lowered his league leading ERA to 1.80. Kershaw may be the pitching equivalent of Miguel Cabrera.

ESPN had an interesting stat on one of their broadcasts tonight: LA is the third team to go 42-8 over a 50 game stretch in the history of MLB. The other two teams, both of whom performed that feat in the early 40s, won the World Series. Maybe this amazing season is Karma's way of rewarding the great Vin Scully with one more World Series title before he moves on to the great baseball field in the sky.

LA closes their 3 game series with the Phillies tomorrow. An early game that starts early afternoon on the East Coast. It will be Ricky Nolasco (9-9, 3.62 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (5-13, 3.65). Another LA pitching note they may activate Brian Wilson tomorrow. Although Brandon League only needed 8 pitches tonight to close the door on the Phillies in the 9th inning, I'd rather have a healthy Wilson in the playoffs.

Alex Rodriguez was in the news yet again today, does anyone else but him want him to play. Arod please just go away.

I broke my Mega 80's music blog into many different categories, I won't change my original Mega 80's music blog though. I enjoy making these kind of blogs and I hope you enjoy them too. As always I welcome all comments, both negative and positive. All you have to do is to leave a comment on any post and I see it almost immediately. I also take requests, although they may not make it on to the blog.

The inspiration for these blogs comes from Spotify 80's radio, SongPop game on Facebook, Youtube, my iPod and my own faulty memory.

The next 80's music category is baby making music. These sort of songs are all over the place. Some are sweet and romantic, other songs talk in metaphor ("Sledgehammer") and some leave no doubt what the song is about. To a certain extent I tried to organize the songs on this blog into particular groups.

Dodgers Daily, August 16th, 2013: Dodgers Win Again, Red Sox In Trouble?, NL Playoffs Sewn Up With 40 Games Left

Thanks as always to ESPN for their excellent stats,insight and amazing amounts of information.

On Friday LA started their 7 game East Coast road trip against a couple of the NL dregs. Heading into this game the Dodgers had won 40 of their last 48 games. I have so much confidence in the Dodgers that I picked them in ESPN's Streak For The Cash. Usually there's no way I'd pick the Dodgers to win on the road, but I did tonight and I was rewarded for my faith.

Zack Greinke is finally starting to be the pitcher LA expected when they gave him all that money in the offseason. (Sadly the Cowboys won't get that level of performance from Tony Romo after he signed his own high paid contract.) On Friday Greinke pitched 7.1 innings, gave up 3 hits but no runs. He improves to 11-3 as his ERA decreases to 3.02. I hope he continues lowering that ERA, it's a bit of a concern. All the walks he gives up also makes me a bit nervous. Will he start to be mentioned more prominently in Cy Young contention soon?

Of course he might not be the only Dodgers pitcher mentioned in the Cy Young race. LA have 3 top line starters with Greinke, Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu. If their offense keeps on playing as well as they have lately I like LA's chances to win any playoff series.

Their offense certainly benefits from having Hanley Ramirez back in the lineup. He was 2 for 4, hit his 12th homer and has 39 RBIs this season. Hanley's two run homer in the 4th inning was all the scoring LA needed on this night. By hitting .500 this game, Ramirez resumes leading the Dodgers in batting average. He's hitting .363, just slightly ahead of Yasiel Puig. Puig was 0 for 4 and his batting average decreases to a still sterling .362.

Barring some unforeseen disaster we pretty much know how the playoffs will look in the NL this season. LA will be the NL West Division Winner and Atlanta will be the NL East Division winner. Of the other teams in the NL, the only team that has at least a very small chance of making the playoffs is the Diamondbacks. But keeping it real, how likely is that to happen? The NL Central will have 3 of the 5 teams in the NL playoffs. The only question is about the NL Central is who'll win it. The second and third place teams will play each other in the NL Wild Card game.

The AL is much more up for grabs. In all likelihood the Red Sox and Rays will represent the AL East. Oakland and Texas will probably represent the AL West. Both divisions are up for grabs as to who'll win and who'll represent their division in the Wild Card playoff game. The only team in the AL East or AL West with more than a remote chance of making the playoffs is the Orioles. However Baltimore is really struggling right now and desperately need a 10 game winning streak to be considered relevant. In the NL Central I'd bet money the high scoring Tigers will win the NL Central. Both the Indians and Royals have about a 20% chance of reaching the playoffs.

Meanwhile in Boston, the Red Sox are starting to make me nervous. On Friday they lost their third straight game and have lost 6 of their last 10 games. Boston welcomed the Yankees to Fenway for a 3 game series with the Red Sox having a solid chance to put their foot on the throat of New York. That's not what happened though, the Yankees were the ones kicking butt tonight. The Yankees abused Boston's pitching staff for 10 runs tonight at Fenway.

The Red Sox should be playing some of their best baseball now, but seem to be playing some of their worst. Boston still leads the very tough AL East, but they look vulnerable. Is this shades of their 2011 end of season meltdown? I hope not and the Red Sox need to show that it's not. Boston needs to come out and win the next two games and knock the Yankees completely out of playoff contention. The Red Sox need to lead the Yanks by 9.5 games by the end of Sunday Night Baseball.

I'm so sick of hearing about Alex Rodriguez and he's in the news once again. The TV newsmagazine "60 Minutes" is reporting someone from ARod's inner circle stated that ARod implicated other players in this Biogenesis mess. Of course Rodriguez is denying that he implicated anyone. A lyric from "Les Mis" comes to mind "you'd expect that from a con".

Is Rodriguez thinking that someone is out to "get him" and if so why? When you are as guilty of as many things as Rodriguez is, nobody had to make up stuff. Rodriguez needs to come completely clean and then go away for a long time. Rodriguez has made so many mistakes in his life that he's used up all benefit of the doubt. I can't believe that he still has people defending him. I agree that he has a right to counsel, but does anyone really believe that he's innocent?

He's clearly desperate to get the money the Yanks owe him with that horrendously misguided contract. I believe Rodriguez would do anything at this point to get that money. How many lawyers does he have fighting for him? He's not agreeing to a plea bargain and is fighting his suspension every inch of the way. Why would anyone question that Rodriguez would sell out other players? Especially if that would help him personally? I can't wait to read his mea culpa, "Alex Rodriguez: My Story" in the next 10 years. Why do I know that he'll write one, because someone will pay him for it. I'm not a Yanks fan by any stretch of imagination, but it's a shame he's tarnishing all his hard working teammates with his mere presence.

"Alex Rodriguez on Friday strongly denied a report that he implicated fellow players, including New York Yankees teammate Francisco Cervelli, as PED users to a website back in January. "It's not true," Rodriguez said.

Sarcasm alert: I can't believe all these people are lying about Rodriguez. Does he have an credibility left at all?

Finally what is going on with Alfonso Soriano, 18 RBIs in his last 5 games? Why didn't he play like that when he was with the Cubs?

With none of my page views since my last published blog on February 20th getting any views I continue to go back and revamp and revise blogs from at least a couple of years ago and backwards. I think I'm going to focus on Blogger blogs for text and share videos on my WordPress blog themusicaddictblog.com The videos don't play here on blogspot for some reason, but they do work on my blog. Someday hopefully I'll be able to get everything figured out.

Enjoy these New Wave classics, well at least they should be. I've picked songs that were obscure, of course I'll add some of New Wave's greatest hits. I can't speak to what a member of the current teen generation thinks when they hear the phrase "new wave". However I'm sure they'd be more interested if I named them some of the popular so-called New Wave bands. New Wave didn't have a particular sound,  the movement was mostly made of bands that were on the fringe in some way.

Generally the people that listened to this kind of music were also people on the fringe, which is why many teenagers embraced this music so much. Of course this was the 80s, most people listened to multiple genres. The 80s were a more naive and innocent time. I was also on the fringe but I wasn't part of the new wave scene. I didn't really start liking the music until many years later. The story of my life is missing out on things when they are popular only to discover them much later.

However "new wave" did have some very popular bands as well. Those bands included U2, Oingo Boingo, R.E.M., The Smiths, David Bowie, Tears For Fears, Billy Idol,  The Violent Femmes, The Cars, Sinead O'Connor, New Order, INXS, Midnight Oil and many others.

The Motels had at least 5 great songs, they weren't a one hit wonder by any stretch of the imagination. However when they released their greatest hits CD they filled it out with a of a lot of bad songs. A few good songs surrounded by a lot of crap makes for a terrible CD.
