Hello,

The beginnings of new love. The wonder, the feelings, the hopes, expectations and desires. The unknown, what can go wrong and what can go right. Some of the greatest songs of all-time are love songs, here's some of my favorites. I'm going to start with my favorite love song of all-time.

Does it even need an introduction? I doubt it, but I'm still going to introduce the Peter Cetera classic anyway:  1) "The Glory of Love":

2) UB40 "(I Can't Help) Falling In Love With You":

3) Lord Huron "The Night We Met":
4) Christopher Cross "Arthur's Theme (The Best You Can Do)":
5) REO Speedwagon "I Can't Fight This Feeling":

6) Eric Carmen "Hungry Eyes":

7) The Revivalists "Wish I Knew You":

(Updated October 6th, 2019) Boz Scaggs Concert Review September 5th, 2018

Hello,

I saw Boz Scaggs and his very able band at Layton, Utah's Kenley Ampitheatre on September 5th, 2018. I googled around a bit, but I couldn't find any of the names of his band members. However he was accompanied by a lead guitarist, bass guitarist, a multi instrumental player, keyboards and vocals, bongos and vocals, a regular drummer and a bassist that was smiling the whole night. Also Boz Scaggs played guitar, including some great blues licks. We can't forget the guy who brought Boz his guitar between each song.

The setlist is below, he played a decent 17 song set, which lasted about 100 minutes. His set was missing some obvious gems (see below). They played some of his classics, songs he called his Hollywood songs. They also played some of his songs from his newest CD "Out of the Blues". He played a few songs from that CD, some of which are covers he played on this night.

I'm posting the best songs and live versions of his songs.

1) "Jojo":

2) "It's Over":

3) "Gone Baby Gone":

4) "Rock & Stick":

5) "Harbor Lights":

A cover of Bobby "Blue" Blands 6) "The Feeling Is Gone":

One of his better most recent songs. 7) "Radiator 110":

This song had more pizazz than expected in concert. 8) "Georgia":

This song was one of the most lethargic moments of the evening. Of all the amazing Neil Young songs, why did he cover this one? This is Young's 9) "On The Beach":

A cover of Fats Domino 10) "I'm Sick and Tired (Of Fooling Around With You":

11) I've Got Your Love (Love Love)":

12) "Look What You've Done That To Me":

I expected this song to have a bit more pizazz in concert. 13) "Lowdown":

14) "Lido Shuffle":

Encore:

15) "What Can I Say":

I loved their playing the blues, but a better songs could have been picked for that. 16) "Loan Me A Dime" was a sadly a long snooze:

A cover of Chuck Berry's 17) "You Never Can Tell":

Songs I wish Boz and his great band would have played:

"Breakdown Dead Ahead":
"Miss Sun":
"We're All Alone":

(Started September 4th, 2018) A Random Blast of New Wave: One Year Later Part 1

Hello,

A little bit less than a year ago I wrote a blog titled "A Random Blast of New Wave". I posted videos of several new wave classic songs. I thought it would be fun to revisit this blog topic. Some of you youngsters may be wondering what exactly is New Wave music? Also you might be wondering who were some of the biggest New Wave acts. New Wave music was mainly an early to mid-80's phenomena. This is a terrible generalization but new wave is essentially a combination of pop and punk. Basically it was any song outside the pop and rock mainstream.

According to Ranker.com these are the Ten Best New Wave Bands:

1) New Order
2) Talking Heads
3) Simple Minds
4) The Cure
5) Depeche Mode
6) The Police
7) The Cars
8) Duran Duran
9) Blondie
10) Echo and the Bunnymen

Wait I just realized The Smiths isn't in the top ten of the above list, that's just wrong, but one of their CDs in the #3 New Wave CD. Of course those come from two different sources. Then U2 doesn't have an entry in either Top Ten. They were one of the first big New Wave bands. And where in the heck is the Thompson Twins?

If I were to rank the above 10 bands, this is how I would rank them: 1) Duran Duran 2) The Police 3) Blondie 4) Depeche Mode 5) The Cars 6) The Talking Heads 7) Simple Minds 8) Echo & The Bunnymen 9) New Order 10) The Cure

Other listed New Wave Bands: Men At Work, The B-52's, Tears For Fears, INXS, and Pet Shop Boys. According to Paste Magazine these are the Top Ten Best New Wave CDs:

10) The Cure "Disintegration":
9) David Bowie "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps):
8) Echo & The Bunnymen "Ocean Rain":
7) XTC "Skylarking":
6) The Police "Synchronicity":
5) New Order "Power, Corruption & Lies":
4) Blondie "Parallel Lines":
3) The Smiths "The Queen Is Dead":
2) Talking Heads "Remain In Light":
1) Elvis Costello "My Aim Is True":

Those are some bands and CDs for those of you interested in doing more research.

Now here are some songs from bands not listed in the top ten New Wave bands or the top ten New Wave CDs:

Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen":

The very first ever played on MTV, back when it was relevant, The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star":

(Finished September 21st, 2018) themusicaddict's Top 16 Greatest 80s Soundtracks #13 "Dirty Dancing"

Hello,

"Nobody puts Baby in the corner" is one of the most iconic lines of any movie. This is what Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) says to Frances "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) when he pulls her away to dance with him. I thought Jerry Orbach was wasted in this movie. He's so good in "Law and Order", but it's always good to see him. I was kind of meh on the movie, but the soundtrack is amazing. I love the mix of great oldies and original songs. I hadn't really listened to it until I started working on this series of 80s countdown blogs. As I said I only post the songs I like from each of these greatest 80s soundtracks. This CD has 12 songs and I like all of them. My favorite songs are Patrick Swayze's "She's Like The Wind", Eric Carmen "Hungry Eyes" and to be honest so many other amazing songs.

The less said about the Black Eyed Peas cover, the better. This is the definitive version of that song. 1) Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life":

2) The Ronettes "Be My Baby":

3) Patrick Swayze (featuring Wendy Fraser) "She's Like The Wind":

4) Eric Carmen "Hungry Eyes":

5) Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs "Stay":

6) Merry Clayton "Yes":

7) The Blow Monkeys "You Don't Own Me":

8) Billak Massaingale "Hey! Baby". I couldn't find that version, so this is the Bruce Channel version:

9) Alfie Zappacosta "Overload":

I think these next two songs are the weakest songs on the soundtrack, but I still think they're good.
10) Mickie & Sylvia "Love Is Strange":

11) Tom Johnston "Where Are You Tonight":

12) The Five Satins "In The Still of The Night":

(September 1st, 2018) themusicaddict's Top 16 Greatest 80s Soundtracks #14 "The Jazz Singer":

Hello,

The next CD on my Top 16 greatest 80s soundtracks of all-time is Neil Diamond's "The Jazz Singer". I watched this movie a long time ago, but I don't remember much about it. This movie is known more for it's excellent soundtrack rather than the actual movie. "The Jazz Singer" contains 10 songs, including some of Diamonds best songs.

From Wikipedia.org:

The Jazz Singer is an album by Neil Diamond from 1980, which served as the soundtrack album to the 1980 remake of the film The Jazz Singer. The soundtrack was released in November 1980 originally on Capitol Records, instead of his then-usual Columbia Records, because the film was produced by EMI Films, owned by the parent company of the label for which the soundtrack was released. The soundtrack was re-released in February 1996 on Columbia Records in the United States and Sony elsewhere. After Diamond signed with Capitol Records, this album was reissued by Capitol globally in 2014.[2]
The film's reviews were negative, earning Diamond the first Razzie for Worst Actor at the 1st Golden Raspberry Awards, but made a modest profit at the box office, grossing almost double its budget. However, its soundtrack was a huge success and became Neil Diamond's biggest selling album in the United States, selling over 5 million copies there and reaching #3 on the pop albums chart. This would mark the second time a Neil Diamond soundtrack outperformed the movie it came from (after Jonathan Livingston Seagull). Three of the songs from the album became Top 10 pop singles, with "Love on the Rocks", "Hello Again" and "America" reaching #2, #6, and #8 respectively

I don't post all of the songs from each soundtrack, just the best songs from that soundtrack. Ten of this soundtrack's fourteen songs are worthy of the best songs designation. Enjoy.

1) "America":

2) "America" (reprise)":

3) "Love On The Rocks":

4) "Amazed and Confused":

5) "On The Robert E. Lee":

6) "Hello Again":

7) "You Baby":
8) "Summer Love":
9) "Hey Louise":
10) "Jerusalem":
