(Started September 4th, 2018) A Random Blast of New Wave: One Year Later Part 1

Hello,

A little bit less than a year ago I wrote a blog titled "A Random Blast of New Wave". I posted videos of several new wave classic songs. I thought it would be fun to revisit this blog topic. Some of you youngsters may be wondering what exactly is New Wave music? Also you might be wondering who were some of the biggest New Wave acts. New Wave music was mainly an early to mid-80's phenomena. This is a terrible generalization but new wave is essentially a combination of pop and punk. Basically it was any song outside the pop and rock mainstream.

According to Ranker.com these are the Ten Best New Wave Bands:

1) New Order
2) Talking Heads
3) Simple Minds
4) The Cure
5) Depeche Mode
6) The Police
7) The Cars
8) Duran Duran
9) Blondie
10) Echo and the Bunnymen

Wait I just realized The Smiths isn't in the top ten of the above list, that's just wrong, but one of their CDs in the #3 New Wave CD. Of course those come from two different sources. Then U2 doesn't have an entry in either Top Ten. They were one of the first big New Wave bands. And where in the heck is the Thompson Twins?

If I were to rank the above 10 bands, this is how I would rank them: 1) Duran Duran 2) The Police 3) Blondie 4) Depeche Mode 5) The Cars 6) The Talking Heads 7) Simple Minds 8) Echo & The Bunnymen 9) New Order 10) The Cure

Other listed New Wave Bands: Men At Work, The B-52's, Tears For Fears, INXS, and Pet Shop Boys. According to Paste Magazine these are the Top Ten Best New Wave CDs:

10) The Cure "Disintegration":
9) David Bowie "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps):
8) Echo & The Bunnymen "Ocean Rain":
7) XTC "Skylarking":
