Hello,
Today was my first day with my new job, there was a misunderstanding about hours. I thought I would be there until 7:00 but I found out I was off at 2:00 instead. That was nice, but that means my next two weeks will be the 50 plus hours week. There's so much to learn, I think I'll be able to learn it though. Once I get the hang of this job I think will be a great job for me. I love the thought of several 25 hour weeks and many 3 day weekends. I'll keep on reminding myself that when I'm working the 50 plus hour weeks.
I also have been battling a sick stomach the last couple of days, not wanting to eat much. Today I was battling weakness, tiredness and a feeling that I was about to pass out. Unfortunately nothing sounds good to eat. For the people that know me, that's not something that happens very often.
Unfortunately as I was meeting people, I got a few unneeded reminders of that very painful experience going on in my life. Yes, I'm talking about the divorce. (Mark Chesnutt's song "Going Through The Big D" is funny until divorce became part of my life. Yeah, this song is not even remotely funny now.
)
I was talking to this woman and she was telling me she was going back to Idaho. Just to be polite I asked her why, she said it's because she was getting a divorce. As soon as she said that it was another kick in the gut for me. Also the boss at the college where I work her name is the same as my wife. I was talking to my Mom this morning about lunch bags. She said you probably have some from "when you lived here last time". Great, 3 unneeded reminders of the most painful experience of my life. It's so amazing how they sneak up on you from out of nowhere. When I think I'm protected and I might get a few minutes of relief, out come the unneeded reminders.
What started out as a good day has now sunk to a bad day. I'd do anything not to get divorced. This sucks so bad. Before the divorce this is how my wife made me feel:
I knew we were having struggles, but I always loved her. I still love her and still am very attracted to her. I miss holding her in my arms, kissing her, her sly sense-of-humor and her strong testimony.
Another song about my bad day and all my regrets:
A couple of quick non-divorce topics. I watched "Zombieland" last night, that had a few laughs. Woody Harrelson definitely had fun making that movie. I liked all the rules about how to survive in Zombieland.
Also tonight is the NCAA Tournament Men's Final. I'm cheering very much for Butler. I've always hated Duke, a bunch of spoiled, whiny, rich kids. (I don't know if they really are, but they act that way.) I'm going to be cheering on Butler as if they were my marriage being saved. Duke will be the divorce. I'll be cheering for Butler to snap Duke's will.

Starting To Heal... Finally!
Hello,
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Confucius
Today is my first day on the job with Ambassador Bookstore at Everest College in West Valley City. Today is yet another step in my journey of a thousand miles to my divorce. I've gone only a few steps on that journey, but at least I'm on the path.
I've been going through this grieving process for about a month now, my friends tell me a divorce takes anywhere from 8 months to a year to fully heal. Although I did have one friend who said he never fully healed. Having kids together adds another element to the recovery process.
I think having a job will help with the healing process, it will give me something else to think about. Yesterday was the first day since I found out about the divorce that I wasn't in pain the whole day. Just one Sunday previous I was so lonely for her and our kids. Yesterday was officially my first good day, after about 30 bad days.
The divorce paperwork is winding its way through the courts. We have to take a 3 hour divorce class, submit the final papers and then wait. The divorce should be final in about a month. The day that its final is going to be another bad day. It doesn't help when I hear songs like this:
I definitely believe in miracles. I believe the above song can be about my wife and I. I still believe there's a chance for us. As the song says "There's still a chance to be all we might have been".
Obviously I'm only at the beginning of my healing so I have many more bad days ahead of me. I've started taking other steps to move forward as well. For one I have an excellent counselor who I can tell is already going to help me tremendously. I have also set the process in motion to find another special lady to be in my life. I'm much better armed with the tools how to treat a woman. My next lady will be treated like the princess she is.
I love you S.

4/4/10 "American Idol" Top 10
Hello,
Following Soul and R&B week, Didi Benami was sent home. Whereas "Teflon Tim" Urban survived yet another week. Although this was suppose to be the season of the woman, at this point there are 6 men and 3 women remaining. Next week's theme is something to do with the Beatles or Lennon/McCartney songbook. I remember how that was one of the most boring weeks from last season.
Here's the Top Ten:
10) Tim Urban (last week :10) butchered the amazing Anita Baker song, "Sweet Love". I just don't get how "Teflon Tim" Urban keeps on making it through. Tweens please stop voting for him on his looks, vote for him based on his singing or lack thereof ability.
9) Andrew Garcia (last week: 9) sang Chris Brown's "Forever", at least he has some talent. He actually lived up to his potential a bit on his version of this song. I still think he's an extreme long shot to win this contest, but at least he shook things up again. Nothing is worse than a predictable "American Idol". Last year I always had the feeling that Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen were going to go far in the competition. That ended up happening and it was so boring.
8) Aaron Kelly (last week: 6) sang a half-decent take on Aaron Kelly's "Ain't No Sunshine". He just doesn't have enough life experience to sing that song. That song talks about the hard part of a relationship. He needs to sing a song about young love, a crush etc.
7) Didi Benami (last week: 2) wasn't her best on Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes of The Broken Hearted". That song just never took off, it seems someone should have said something to her after she chose that song. I thought they had people that helped them with song selection. I still can't believe she got booted. Here's hoping we hear more from her down the road.
6) Sioban Magnus (last week: 3) sang Chaka Kahn's "Through The Fire". Why did she sing that song. If you want to sing a Chaka Kahn song, sing "I Feel For You". That's an amazing song that feels relativedly current, although it's 20 years old. Sioban you need to go back to excellent performances, you've been really struggling lately.
5) Casey James (last week: 4) sang Sam and Dave's "Hold On I'm Coming". Again another solid but unexciting performance. It was just like his "Power of Love". Both are good, but he needs to do something to set him apart from the pack. Sure he could probably coast 2 or 3 more weeks and be fine. But after Benami's surprising dismissal last week, he needs to bring his A game every week.
4) Katie Stevens (last week: 8) sang Aretha Franklin's amazing "Chain Of Fools". That's just such a great song. Stevens has one of her best performances with that song. Just like James she needs to bring her A game each week. She also doesn't have any room to coast. Each week there's a good chance that she could be sent home. Last week was actually pretty good though.

More songs that make me think of my wife:
Hello,
More songs that make me think of my wife:
Things have been going okay between my wife and I. With my new job starting tomorrow and I'll be working about 50 hours the next two weeks, that's slowed down our divorce a bit. I'll be focusing on my job for the next couple of weeks. I want to get off on a good foot forward as I hope to keep this job for a long time. Getting fired from VZW was the best thing that could have happened to me. I'm feeling pretty sure the Lord has guided me to this job. This job was one of the easiest jobs I've ever received and it fits me in so many ways. Verizon was definitely not a fit.
My wife and I had a good conversation via im this morning. There was some anger on both sides and a lot of regret on my part. She knows I still want her very much, but I'm not going to be obnoxious about it. I'm sad I won't be able to see my kids much over the next two weeks. I did go with one of my boys to Priesthood session last night. That was good and I'm going to be able to ordain him as well next week.
The best news of all is I was able to sleep through the night last night, hopefully that will continue. As I was listening to iTunes this morning I came across a couple of songs that reminded me of my wife. As always here's my disclaimer, my wife is still awesome. All lyrics below don't apply exactly to our relationship.
Lionel Richie's "Hello",
Patsy Cline's "Crazy",
No one sings the sad love songs like Patsy Cline, this is "Blue".
A classic from Bill Withers:
I will be back with my Top 10 "American Idol" rankings later today.

And now if only....
Hello,
Just a quick short blog today. Last night I finally got another job. I've been out of work for exactly one month tomorrow. I'll be the new Bookstore Manager at Everest College in West Valley City. It has a lot of things I'm looking for in a job. One of the best things about it is I won't have to work in a call center. I always thought it was a blessing I lost my job with Verizon Wireless. That job was just not a fit and I dreaded going there. I don't think I will have that problem with my new job. Other advantages of my new job over my previous job: I'm getting a $5000 a year raise, I won't ever have to work Sundays, Thanksgiving or Christmas and it's a job that's a much better fit
With me starting my new job on Monday, that will obviously leave me a lot less time to write this blog. Just to let you know
One month from Sunday is the one month anniversary (talk about an anniversary I'd like to forget) of my wife requesting our second separation. That was the saddest day of my life, a lot because I was thinking divorce was soon to follow. A few days later my worst fears were confirmed. I'm a slow learner and I had to be booted twice to finally understand what exactly she wanted. Now it's too little, too late.
However that spurred me into action. Since then I have lost almost 19 pounds (I hit a new low today!), I can fit into a lot of my nice clothes again but unfortunately when I back up there's still a beeping sound.
I've started to eat better, renewed my commitment to my church and God, started reading the scriptures, have received a better job and I'm seeking counseling to help me with my ADHD. So a bunch of positive changes. I was feeling pretty good this morning. I told my Mom I'm losing weight, have a new job and now if I could only get my wife back then things would be great. She asked me the likelihood of getting my wife back, I honestly told her almost zero.
The feeling good just lasted a few seconds but the sadness of anxiety of my big loss is lasting a lot longer.

April Fool's Day feels so appropriate
Hello,
(Disclaimer: as always I think my wife is an amazing woman, so is my mother.)
Today has been a very bad day, a very very bad day. (And it has nothing to do with Tim Urban still being on "AI" over the gorgeous Didi Benami. What the hell?) My Mom brought up lawyers last night, I was thinking about that throughout the night. That's what happens when you can't sleep. I don't think my wife is out to get me, I didn't want to involve lawyers. However I've been a wimp over the last several years and am stuck in between two very, very strong women. My wife and my mother are two of the strongest women I know. At this point of tremendous loss I've finally decided to stand up for myself going forward. I may step on some toes and hurt some feelings but I need to do the best thing. I'm not out to screw anyone, but I just can't give in every time. Even though I'm in my weakest state now, I need to learn to be strong.
The following song explains that a bit, Christina Aguilera's "Fighter".
http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=PstrAfoMKlc
Regrets I've had a few, if I could do it all over again (when I do it all over again)
1) I'd make my wife feel just as special in our 16th, or whatever number of year in our marriage as on our first day of marriage. I'll never stop courting or romancing whoever the Lord brings next into my life. I want to be one of those husbands that when I die, everyone will say they could always see how much I loved my wife and they were jealous. Hindsight is one mean brutal realization.
2) Am I always going to guarantee that I will always have the best job, that I will never get wrapped up in a problem to the detriment of those in my life? No! However what I'll do is to seek help when its called for. Help for me personally and help for my family. (If you are battling something like ADHD, an eating disorder etc get help now. Don't wait until you hurt yourself or someone else!)
3) I'll always be an active participant in the lives of those who are important to me. That includes my my future wife, my parents, my brother and his family, my soon-to-be-ex wife and our amazing kids.
4) The following goes up with the above paragraphs. I'll no longer be so self-involved that I miss the warning signs. I won't miss a hurting partner or child.
I will always be there.
5) I'll not settle for a mediocre life, I will do what is needed to provide the best life possible for all those people depending on me. I'll not lack the motivation. To ensure that happens, I'm working on it with an excellent therapist. She's helping me resolve issues caused by my ADHD. The same thing that sunk our marriage has sunk my jobs, both of those things come from not learning how to deal effectively with my ADHD. I need to learn how to be effective despite my ADHD and not try to avoid dealing with it.
6) I won't let up on my church responsibilities again. I want to take my next wife to be married in the Holy Temple for time and all eternity. I will use the Priesthood to bless her lives and all other significant people in our lives. I'm setting apart our middle son in a couple of weekends. I'm also taking my oldest boys to attend Saturday night's Priesthood session. I'm then going to take them for ice cream after wards. It's very important and consistent with the gospel to have happiness in this life. "Men are that they might have joy."
7) I'll always stand up for my family and anyone else who needs it.
8) I'll work on my tendency to write run on sentences. :)

"AI" Season 9, Top 10 performances 3/30/10
Hello,
The theme was R&B/ Soul night with Usher as the mentor. Now I don't think Usher is as cool as he thinks he is. However I thought he was a very good mentor. He suggests to the contestants, they need to "own their moment". I counted at least 5 times Randy saying some variation on "yo" to the contestants.
1) Sioban Magnus sang Chaka Kahn's "Through The Fire". This performance was like a firecracker that never went off. Both starts out with so much potential, however both fizzle out without the payoff. Usher gave her advice on her "personal style". That she shouldn't wear too distracting clothes that takes away from her performance. Usher also says she has a "true shot at being an incredible artist". I completely agree with him on that. However it was a rough night for her, she seemed a little off throughout her whole performance. She hit that big note, that has quickly become a cliche. She has gone to the well once too often. Grade: D, buy? no.
2) Casey James sang Sam and Dave's "Hold On I'm Coming". It's the first time this song was performed on stage. James has a great voice and the band seemed to have fun playing the song. His signature is his guitar solo, I like that better than Sioban's signature scream. I agree with Ellen it was a bit safe. Grade B+, buy? no.
3) Michael Lynche sang India Arie's "Ready For Love". He nailed this song, I thought this was his best performance so far. This was one of the very sexy songs sung tonight. Ellen called his performance "beautiful". Simon said this was the first time he could take Michael "seriously as an artist". I thought the man was just a bunch of muscles but he's really bringing it on. I don't think he's going to be this season's winner, but now at least I think there's a chance. Grade: B+, buy: maybe.
4) Didi Benami sang Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted". Usher told the very emotional Benami wearing her "heart on her sleeve is a good thing". Benami looked amazing tonight. The performance got stronger as the night went on, but overall it was a little off though. I think she's another long shot to win this season's title. Randy was right when he said she "flat lined". Why the hell was Ryan holding her hand the whole time they were talking. That was obnoxious. Grade: B-, buy? no.
5) Tim Urban tortured, uh I mean sang, Anita Baker's "Sweet Love". Never have the title of a song and the actual performance been at such odds. I don't think ol' Tim understood that being called Teflon Tim isn't exactly a compliment. It was a boring performance and lasted way too long. I'm listening to the real version right now, he killed that song. I agreed with Simon, it was like a "mouse picking a fight with an elephant". What was up with all that obnoxious laughing anyway. By the end of this segment it looked like his laughter was going to turn to tears. Please can he go home tonight. His durability is now taking on Haley Scarnato and Sanjaya levels. Grade: D-, buy no way.
6) Andrew Garcia sang Chris Brown's "Forever". First of all what is up with that ugly hair Andrew? Yet another sexy song. All I can say is that someone is going to get some loving after all the sexy songs. Randy varied up his yo's with Andrew. He started off with the immortal "yo yo", "yo yo". He then said "Andrew is back". It's about time Andrew, I just hope it's not too late. Kara called his performance "that's one giant leap in the right direction". Grade: C+, buy? no.
7) Katie Stevens sang Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools". That's an amazing song and Stevens was looking fantastic. Her look complimented her attitude on the song. Randy said she had a bunch of "small moments". Now she needs to turn all those "small moments into a big moment". That was one of her best performances ever. It might be enough for her to outlast Garcia and Urban. Grade: B+, buy? maybe.
8) Lee Dewyze sang the Cornelious Brothers "Treat Her Like A Lady". Yet another sexy song, although Lee sang the song a bit stiffly. Put a little passion into it dude. Usher was absolutely right, "if you don't believe it, they won't". I was surprised how spot on Usher was on tonight. Randy said "yo, yo Lee". Randy is amazing at all the different ways he can work yo into a conversation. Grade B, buy: doubtful.
