4/4/10 "American Idol" Top 10

Hello,

Following Soul and R&B week, Didi Benami was sent home. Whereas "Teflon Tim" Urban survived yet another week. Although this was suppose to be the season of the woman, at this point there are 6 men and 3 women remaining. Next week's theme is something to do with the Beatles or Lennon/McCartney songbook. I remember how that was one of the most boring weeks from last season.

Here's the Top Ten:

10) Tim Urban (last week :10) butchered the amazing Anita Baker song, "Sweet Love". I just don't get how "Teflon Tim" Urban keeps on making it through. Tweens please stop voting for him on his looks, vote for him based on his singing or lack thereof ability.

9) Andrew Garcia (last week: 9) sang Chris Brown's "Forever", at least he has some talent. He actually lived up to his potential a bit on his version of this song. I still think he's an extreme long shot to win this contest, but at least he shook things up again. Nothing is worse than a predictable "American Idol". Last year I always had the feeling that Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen were going to go far in the competition. That ended up happening and it was so boring.

8) Aaron Kelly (last week: 6) sang a half-decent take on Aaron Kelly's "Ain't No Sunshine". He just doesn't have enough life experience to sing that song. That song talks about the hard part of a relationship. He needs to sing a song about young love, a crush etc.

7) Didi Benami (last week: 2) wasn't her best on Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes of The Broken Hearted". That song just never took off, it seems someone should have said something to her after she chose that song. I thought they had people that helped them with song selection. I still can't believe she got booted. Here's hoping we hear more from her down the road.

6) Sioban Magnus (last week: 3) sang Chaka Kahn's "Through The Fire". Why did she sing that song. If you want to sing a Chaka Kahn song, sing "I Feel For You". That's an amazing song that feels relativedly current, although it's 20 years old. Sioban you need to go back to excellent performances, you've been really struggling lately.

5) Casey James (last week: 4) sang Sam and Dave's "Hold On I'm Coming". Again another solid but unexciting performance. It was just like his "Power of Love". Both are good, but he needs to do something to set him apart from the pack. Sure he could probably coast 2 or 3 more weeks and be fine. But after Benami's surprising dismissal last week, he needs to bring his A game every week.

4) Katie Stevens (last week: 8) sang Aretha Franklin's amazing "Chain Of Fools". That's just such a great song. Stevens has one of her best performances with that song. Just like James she needs to bring her A game each week. She also doesn't have any room to coast. Each week there's a good chance that she could be sent home. Last week was actually pretty good though.
