This is a blog about a band and the first song you think of when you hear that bands name. For example when most people hear "Led Zeppelin", they think "Stairway To Heaven". For me I think "Whole Lotta Love". With this blog I'll mention a band and then the song I think of when I think of that band.
281) 311 "Down":
282) Animals "House of the Rising Son":
283) Bee Gees
One of those oh so great 80s one hit wonders. 284) Billy and the Beaters "At This Moment":
That's a decent back up band for Gary. 285) Gary U.S. Bonds "This Little Girl":
286) Lindsey Buckingham "Go Insane":
287) Eric Church "Springsteen":
288) Commodores
289) Robert Cray "Right Next Door (Because Of Me)":
I was thinking about Fergie the other day and I realized she obviously had a lot of big hits with the Black Eyed Peas, then solo and finally she had a lot of collaborations over the years. Obviously Stacy Ferguson is better known as Fergie. These songs are in no particular order.
"London Bridge":
"Glamorous":
"Fergalicious":
"Big Girls Don't Cry":
"Clumsy":
"Save It Til' Morning":
"All That I Got (The Make Up Song)":

"Finally":
U2, Mick Jagger, Fergie and will.i.am "Gimme Shelter":

David Guetta & Chris Willis featuring Fergie and LMFAO:
244) Against The Current "":
245) B-52s "Rock Lobster":
246) David Bowie "Suffragette City":
It took some work to come up with this selection. For most bands their that one song is pretty obvious. But some bands, like the Clash, it's not so obvious. 247) The Clash "Rock The Casbah":
248) Diamond Rio "Norma Jean Riley":
249) Dio
250) General Public "Tenderness":
251) Merle Haggard "I Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink":
252) Beth Hart "Bang Bang Boom Boom":
253) John Lee Hooker "Boom Boom":
254) Incubus "Nice To Know You":
This one was a challenge, but I'm pretty happy with this song choice. "Real World" is a great song. 255) Alan Jackson "Here In The Real World":
256) Waylon Jennings "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way":
257) B.B. King
258) George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today":
259) Lonestar "With Me":

264) P.O.D.
265) Public Enemy
266) Quarterflash "Harden My Heart":
267) Quiet Riot "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)":
268) Rascal Flatts "These Days":
269) Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band
270) SOS Band "Take Your Time (Do It Right)":
271) Jordin Sparks
272) Statler Brothers "Do You Remember These":
This is an annual tradition for me, around Memorial Day I count down the Top 100ish songs on my iTunes. This year it's 120 songs as there are 21 songs that are tied for 100th place. In parenthesis I've also listed where they were ranked around Memorial Day, 2018. As always these blogs are live, so if a song gets another listen I'll update the blog. That's something I've already done a few times. All of these blogs are updated through the night of June 8th, 2019.
These songs have 54 listens.
9) Muddy Waters "King Bee" (Tied for 5th):
9) Kenny Loggins "Playing With The Boys" (Tied for 7th)
9) Blur "Song 2" (Tied for 29th):
9) Berlin "No More Words" (Tied for 25th):
This song has 57 listens. 8) R.E.M. "Orange Crush" (4th):
These songs have 58 listens:
6) U2 "Even Better Than The Real Thing" (3rd):
6) Ozzy Osbourne "Crazy Train" (Tied for 21st):
5) Chicago's "Stay The Night" has 59 listens. (Tied for 17th):
This may seem like an odd choice, but I really liked Aqua's first CD 4) Aqua's "Lollipop" has 62 listens. (Tied for 5th):
3) Morrissey's "Big Mouth Strikes Again" (Tied for 5th):
2) Beastie Boys "Girls" (1st Place):
1) Arctic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor" (2nd Place):
This is such a great song, it hits on so many good and bad things about a relationship. Indeed, "you're not the only one with mixed emotions" sums that up perfectly. One of the Rolling Stones better late career songs.
2019's #5 The Rolling Stones "Mixed Emotions":
I have to admit this is a very catchy song. 1989's #5 Jonas Brothers "Sucker":
Winner: I'm going to have to call this a toss up. Now "Mixed Emotions" is still an amazing song on the who knows how many listens, will "Sucker" have that same longevity?
1989's #4 Roxette "Listen To Your Heart":
I expect much more from Ed Sheeran, this is kind of a lifeless mid tempo song. Putting two names, although it makes no sense, to create sales. A poorly created experiment. 2019's #4 Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber "I Don't Care":
Winner: again this isn't close one of the 80s best ballads vs. what feels like a factory produced song. Alex I'll take Roxette every day for $1,000,000 dollars.
A great song but not a song that compares well to most of "Songs From The Big Chair". But still a lot better than Khalid will ever produce. 1989's #3 Tears For Fears "Sowing The Seeds Of Love":
Honestly I expected nothing from this song, but it's a bit better than I expected. Like too many of the other 2019 songs it quickly becomes very repetitive. The song should have ended about the 2:30 mark. 2019's #3 Khalid's "Talk":
Winner: Tears For Fears by a pretty wide margin.
1989's #2 The Cure "Lovesong":
One of the current hottest musicians currently performing. A multi week run at #1 and a hot concert tour. Does she deserve the hype? I would answer that question with a hesitant yes based on this one song. 2019's #2 Billie Ellish "Bad Guy":
Winner: while the Ellish track is so much better than most of the current dreck, it still isn't even close to the Cure classic.
1989's #1 Janet Jackson "Miss You Much":
2019's #1 Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus "Old Town Road":
Winner: while the Lil Nas X track is a pretty decent song, it could never overcome the funk classic that is Ms. Jackson's "Miss You Much".
The 80s wins 8 of 10, the 2019 songs win one and there is one tie.
This is a comparison of the Top Ten songs of the early October, 1989 Billboard charts vs. June 8th, 2019. To be honest, or as the kids would write tbh, I'd probably choose the song from 1989 over 2019 every time. Other than "Sunflower" I haven't even heard any of the songs on the 2019 fan. Other than Ed Sheeran I'm not a big fan, or have even heard of, many of those from 2019. Hold on tight let's see which year did it better.
I just had this song on my blog as part of "That One Song...That One Band" part 6.
Released before YouTube even existed and the internet was in it's infancy, this video barely has 1,000,000 views. 1989's #10 Expose "When I Looked At Him":
I do like this song, although it is very repetitive. 339,000,000 views is very impressive.
2019's #10 Ava Max "Sweet But Psycho":
Winner: the sexy, sultry Expose ballad from 1989, although it was closer than I thought it would have been. The sax solo is a nice touch for "When I Looked At Him". Ava Max definitely wins the cleavage game, but is that a game you want to win?
One of the 80s most fun songs is 1989's #9 Young MC "Bust A Move":
Let's start off with the good, he's wearing a Dodgers hat. That's a sign of some taste. Fortunately this is the clean version, which means there's an even more mindless dirty version. Like most hip hop/rag songs this sounds like so many other other hip hop/rap songs. I could barely listen to the full version of this yet another repetitive song. 2019's #9 DaBaby "Suge":
Winner: it's not even close, Young MC wins in a wipeout.
I love a song that starts off with old school funk. Honestly I don't remember this song from back in the day, but it's a stone cold jam. 1989's #8 Babyface "It's No Crime":
tbh I'm not sure why Sam Smith gets so much love, I'm not a fan at all. However I don't hate this song, in fact I might even like it. But it pales in comparions to Babyface's old school funk. I do love Normani's voice and her harmonies with Smith are intoxicating.
2019's #8 Sam Smith and Normani's "Dancing With A Stranger":
Winner: Babyface, that's 3 for 3 for the songs from the 80s. Although "Stranger" was a much better song than the previous 2019 song.
One of Aerosmith's more brain dead offerings and that's saying something. That being said the tune grabs you by the shirt, which makes this a great song. But who would call Steven Tyler Mr. Tyler? 1989's #7 Aerosmith "Love In An Elevator":
Face tattoos one of the more regrettable trends currently. Especially when below his eyes it says "always tired". It's not the worst song ever, but will you remember this song in a year? I know I won't. 2019's #7 Postmalone "Wow.":
Winner: Aerosmith and this one wasn't much of a competition and "Elevator" isn't even one of Aerosmith's twenty best songs. The most wow thing about the Post Malone song is the title.
NKOTB just invaded Salt Lake a couple of nights ago, the reviews were off the charts from my fellow old people. An incredibly cheesy video and it makes me laugh the singer grew up to be Danny Reagan on "Blue Bloods". This song gives a chance to the song from 2019 to get a win.
1989's #6 New Kids On The Block "Cover Girl":
2019's #6 Post Malone and Swae Lee "Sunflower":
Winner: Sometimes a band becomes so hot that any song they sing quickly rise up the charts, which is what happened with the very mediocre "Cover Girl". Meanwhile the Post Malone song is just a great great song. The song from 2019 wins easily here.
