(Finished June 8, 2019) Which Year Did It Better? 1989 vs. 2019, Part 1: Songs #5 to #1

Hello,

This is such a great song, it hits on so many good and bad things about a relationship. Indeed, "you're not the only one with mixed emotions" sums that up perfectly. One of the Rolling Stones better late career songs.
2019's #5 The Rolling Stones "Mixed Emotions":

I have to admit this is a very catchy song. 1989's #5 Jonas Brothers "Sucker":

Winner: I'm going to have to call this a toss up. Now "Mixed Emotions" is still an amazing song on the who knows how many listens, will "Sucker" have that same longevity?

1989's #4 Roxette "Listen To Your Heart":

I expect much more from Ed Sheeran, this is kind of a lifeless mid tempo song. Putting two names, although it makes no sense, to create sales. A poorly created experiment. 2019's #4 Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber "I Don't Care":

Winner: again this isn't close one of the 80s best ballads vs. what feels like a factory produced song. Alex I'll take Roxette every day for $1,000,000 dollars.

A great song but not a song that compares well to most of "Songs From The Big Chair". But still a lot better than Khalid will ever produce. 1989's #3 Tears For Fears "Sowing The Seeds Of Love":

Honestly I expected nothing from this song, but it's a bit better than I expected. Like too many of the other 2019 songs it quickly becomes very repetitive. The song should have ended about the 2:30 mark. 2019's #3 Khalid's "Talk":

Winner: Tears For Fears by a pretty wide margin.

1989's #2 The Cure "Lovesong":

One of the current hottest musicians currently performing. A multi week run at #1 and a hot concert tour. Does she deserve the hype? I would answer that question with a hesitant yes based on this one song.  2019's #2 Billie Ellish "Bad Guy":

Winner: while the Ellish track is so much better than most of the current dreck, it still isn't even close to the Cure classic.

1989's #1 Janet Jackson "Miss You Much":

2019's #1 Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus "Old Town Road":

Winner: while the Lil Nas X track is a pretty decent song, it could never overcome the funk classic that is Ms. Jackson's "Miss You Much".

The 80s wins 8 of 10, the 2019 songs win one and there is one tie.
