(Finished September 15th, 2019) Carrie Underwood "Cry Pretty" Setlist, Part 3: The Review of Runaway June and Maddie and Tae

Hello,

Carrie Underwood, Maddie and Tae and Runaway June took the stage Saturday night September 14th, 2019 at the Vivant Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City. First of all the volume was too loud. I know I'm old, but it wasn't too loud because I'm old. It was too loud because what was being said and sung were drowned out. Carrie Underwood sang one song that I couldn't even recognize it, I heard that song on my iPod this morning and figured out what the song was. It's a cool song but again the sound drowned out what was being sung, which took away from the enjoyment of the concert. It seems the ac wasn't working, it was a sauna in the Viv last night. Sadly the people hurt the worst by the loud volume is the opening bands. I couldn't understand what they were saying or singing. I think I might have liked Maddie and Tae a lot more if I had just understood them.

Runaway June

1) "Lipstick":

2) Head Over Heels":

3) "Fast As You":
See how good they sound here, how clear the sound is, how the volume is at the right level. There's a bit of the volume fading randomly, but other than that it's a complete contrast from their performance last night. Then add sauna like conditions to performance and you had the concert last night.

This is a perfectly good song, but it never had a chance on the overly loud music blaring night.
4) "Trouble With This Town":

5) "We Were Rich":

This song would have been so much better last night if the volume hadn't been so loud and the vocals were clearer. 6) "Buy My Own Drinks":

Maddie & Tae

1) "Tourist In This Town":

2) "Friends Don't":

3) "Fly":

4) "Die From A Broken Heart":

5) "Meet In The Middle":

6) "New Dog Old Tricks":

7) "Girl In A Country Song":

(Finished September 14th, 2019) A Tribute to Eddie Money, 1949-2019, His Best Songs

Hello,

Edward Joseph Mahoney (March 21, 1949 – September 13, 2019), known professionally as Eddie Money, was an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who had success in the 1970s and 1980s with a string of Top 40 songs and platinum albums. Money is well known for songs such as "Baby Hold On", "Two Tickets to Paradise", "Think I'm in Love", "Shakin'", "Take Me Home Tonight", "I Wanna Go Back", "Walk on Water", and "The Love in Your Eyes". Known for his husky voice and his blue-collar persona,[2] Money was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 1987 for "Take Me Home Tonight". (Thanks to Wikipedia.org)

Not two of his finer moments, but still kinda funny:

A tribute to Eddie Money and clips of finding out about his stage 4 cancer.

I love when one artist pays tribute to another artist by covering his song in a non-ironic way. I hope that Carrie Underwood or Maddie and Tae pay tribute to the Money man when I see them in Salt Lake tonight. That would be very cool. Here classy and gravelly voiced Bryan Adams covers one of gravelly voiced Eddie Money's classics "Baby Hold On To Me":

Now to Eddie Money's finest moments, the best songs of Eddie Money, in no particular order.

1) "Two Tickets To Paradise":

2) "Baby Hold On":

3) "Gimme Some Water":

4) "Get A Move On":

5) "Shakin'":

6) "Think I'm In Love":

7) "No Control":

With great additional vocals by Roni Spector. If any of Eddie's songs are All Time Top 500 songs, this is it. 8) "Take Me Home Tonight":

9) "I Wanna Go Back":

10) "Walk On Water":

11) "Peace In Our Time":

12) "Endless Nights":

13) "Another Nice Day In LA":

14) "Run Right Back":

15) "Fire and Water":

16) "I'll Get By":

I do realize this isn't his song, but it's a song from his 2007 CD "Wanna Go Back". It's Money covering 3 classics. He sings with his daughter , Jesse Money, on three of the tracks. 17) "Expressway To Your Heart":

With Jesse Money18) "Mockingbird":

(Started September 12, 2019) Clear Channel's "Lyrically Questionable" Songs Post 9/11, Part 1

Hello,

From Wikipedia.org:
"Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, Clear Channel Communications (now iHeartMedia), the largest owner of radio stations in the United States, circulated an internal memo containing a list of songs that program directors felt were "lyrically questionable" to play in the aftermath of the attack.[1]
During the time immediately after the attacks, many television and radio stations altered normal programming in response to the events, and the rumor spread that Clear Channel and its subsidiaries had established a list of songs with lyrics Clear Channel deemed "questionable." The list was not a compulsory demand not to play the songs listed, but rather a suggestion that they "might not want to play these songs." The list was made public by the independent radio industry newsletter Hits Daily Double, which is not affiliated with iHeartMedia.[2] Snopes.com did research on the subject and concluded that the list did exist as a suggestion for radio stations but noted that it was not an outright ban on the songs in question.[3] The compiled list was the subject of media attention around the time of its release."
I think this list is very interesting. Some of these songs make sense, but a lot of them don't make any sense as "lyrically questionable". September 11th, 2011 was a crisp, clear day in New York City. The attack happened on a Tuesday morning, but I'm not sure why a song that mentions Tuesday would be offensive? Same with Earth, Wind and Fire's "September" again why would that be offensive? That song is a All-Time Top 500 song and a funk masterpiece. Why would one of the most peaceful and lovely songs ever, "It's A Wonderful World" be offensive to anyone at any time?

1) Blood, Sweat and Tears"And When I Die":
2) Louis Armstrong "What A Wonderful World":
I could understand if this song was titled "I feel like I might die in New York City". 3) AC/DC "Safe In New York City":
4) Alice In Chains "Down In A Hole":
5) Fontella Bass "Rescue Me":
6) Blue Oyster Cult "Burnin' For You":
7) Jackson Browne "Doctor My Eyes":
8) Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight":
9) The Clash "Rock The Casbah":
10) Skeeter Davis "End of the World":
I don't know if offended is the right word, but I get why people would think that playing this song right after 9/11 would be bad taste. 11) Drowning Pool "Bodies":
12) The Doors "The End":
13) Earth, Wind and Fire "September":
14) Drifters "On Broadway":
15) "She's Not There":
16) "In The Year 2525":
And on the same list is that ALL songs by Rage Against The Machine were lyrically questionable following 9/11. Here are a couple of those songs.

17) "Bombtrack":
18) "Know Your Enemy":

(Finished September 11th, 2019) Songs Inspired By/Could Be About/Deal with Heroes of 9/11, Part 3 40-50

Hello,

40) Skillet "Back To Life":

I, I'm slowly getting numb
I hate what I've become
Am I lost forever?
Bring me back to life
Help, my body's getting cold
So far away from home
But you feel like heaven
Bring me back to life
Bring me back to life

Americans showed themselves to be fighters after 9/11, people like Patrick Tillman gave up his lucrative NFL career to fight for America. Sadly he died in a friendly fire incident.
41) Rachel Platten "Fight Song":

And all those things I didn't say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice?

Not to get to religious on you, but everything will be made right in the next life.
42) Lauren Daigle "Still Rolling Stones":

Six feet under
I thought it was over
An answer to prayer
The voice of a Savior
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)

43) Aerosmith "Livin' On The Edge":

There's something wrong with the world today
The light bulb's getting dim
There's meltdown in the sky
If you can judge a wise man
By the color of his skin
Then mister you're a better man than I

44) Michael Jackson and Friends "What More Can I Give":

Say the words, I'll lay me down for you.
Just call my name, I am your friend.
See, then why do they keep teaching us
such hate and cruelty?
We should give over and over again.

No matter how bad things can be, there's always hope. Tomorrow will be a new morning, a fresh start, another chance to go forward. 45) Cat Stevens "Morning Has Broken":

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

War is unfortunate, but sometimes needed. Thanks to all of our American heroes, especially the ones that served in the military and their families and friends. Obviously avoiding war, when possible, is the best choice. 46) Edwin Starr "War":

War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
Ohh, war, I despise
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives

47) Louis Armstrong "What A Wonderful World":

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world

I don't think Metallica is the best live band, but this performance of this song kicks ass.
48) Metallica "Master of Puppets":

There is no escape and that's for sure
This is the end, we won't take any more
Say goodbye to the world you live in
You always been taking and now you're giving

49) Metallica "Seek & Destroy":

I don't think this song is that controversial, the lyrics sound pretty sensible to me.
50) John Lennon "Imagine":

Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

(Started September 10th, 2019) Songs Inspired By/Could Be About/Deal with Heroes of 9/11, Part 2

Hello,

If I was a New Yorker I think I might have felt this way the morning of 9/11.
20) The Pretenders "My City Was Gone":

And I felt this way for awhile after 9/11 and I'm feeling that way again with the 18th anniversary being tomorrow. 21) Soundgarden "Fell On Black Days":

Neil Young's "Roll On" is a great song, but it's not quite the anthem of this song. I feel 9/11 deserves an anthem equal to "Sunday Bloody Sunday".
22) U2 "Sunday Bloody Sunday":

23) Imagine Dragons "Mad World":

24) John Michael Montgomery "Letters From Home":

25) Billy Ray Cyrus "Some Gave All":

26) Trace Adkins "Arlington":

25) Tim McGraw "If You're Reading This":

26) Lifehouse "Sky Is Falling":

27) Skillet "Hero":
28) Neil Diamond "America":

From the musical "Come From Away" about the planes that landed in Newfoundland when there no one could fly in America for the first few days after 9/11.

29) "Welcome To The Rock":
30) "38 Planes Reprise/ Somewhere In The Middle of Nowhere":
31) "Something's Missing":

Now here are some great songs from Bruce Springsteen's classic CD "The Rising" which has many songs about 9/11 and the aftermath.

32) "Empty Sky":

33) "Lonesome Day":
34) "Paradise":
35) "The Fuse":
36) "The Rising":
37) "You're Missing":

38) Soundgarden "The Day I Tried To Live":

39) Soundgarden "Blow Up The Outside World":

(Finished June 2nd, 2020) Songs Inspired By/Could Be About/Deal with Heroes of 9/11, Part 1

Hello,

Tomorrow is the 18th anniversary of 9/11 and I've been thinking about that day all day. These are some of my memories, which still seem so clear even these 18 years later.

It's hard to believe it's been 18 years since 9/11. What are some of your memories of that day?
For me I worked that day. It was a Tuesday and I had to write the schedule at Dicks Market. I was late dropping my oldest son, Trevor, off at childcare as that was when news was just breaking of what was going on in New York City. After work I picked up my son and we went to Barnes and Noble in SLC (a store that's no longer there). We got there just in time as they closed early that day due to the attacks. I also remember my two oldest sons, though very young, watching hours of coverage. None of us could take our eyes off of TV. Then what's most remarkable to me is the Utah State Fair was going on and my Mom and I had tickets to see Lonestar on the night of 9/11. The concert still went ahead that night. It was very cool when Lonestar kicked off the show with singing that National Anthem. Also my now ex-wife was scheduled to go to New York City that week and obviously she was unable to go with flights shut down.
What are your memories?

1) Neil Young "Let's Roll":

2) John Williams "Battle of The Heroes":

3) Daryl Worley "Have You Forgotten":

4) Daryl Worley "If Something Should Happen":

5) Shinedown "Heroes":

6) Bonnie Tyler "Holding Out For A Hero":

7) Mariah Carey "Hero":

But we do!!! We need a lot more heroes. 8) Tina Turner "We Don't Need Another Hero":

9) Paperlace "Billy Don't Be A Hero":

A description of the video from YouTube: "With backing vocals by Freddie Mercury, this video was a popular request after 9/11 due to the opening and closing views of the Twin Towers".
10) Billy Squier "Love Is The Hero"

11) Imagine Dragons "Thunder":

12) Arcade Fire "AntiChrist Television Blues":

13) Five For Fighting "Superman":

14) Imagine Dragons "America":

15) Kristy Jackson "Little Did She Know (She Kissed A Hero)":

As it says on YouTube this video is a tribute to the heroes of 9/11. 16) Yellowcard "Believe":

The song about a Vietnam veteran is very applicable for the soldiers since that September, 2011 day. 17) Alice In Chains "Rooster":

Such an amazing song. 18) Barry McGuire "Eve of Destruction":

Some people left on a jet plane and never came back. 19) Chantal Kreviazuk  "Leaving On A Jet Plane":
