(Finished November 15th, 2021) Part 2 of The Best Songs of 1977

Hello,

This blog is mostly inspired by a book I saw yesterday at Target. I loved the title of the book, which is "I Heard It In A Love Song". That of course reminded me of the classic Marshall Tucker Band song. I knew I needed to hear that song again. I then took it further and decided to build a whole blog around it. I focused on 1961 yesterday, today I'm focusing on 1977. 1977 was an amazing year for music.

I spent more time than I should have to made sure all of these songs were released in 1977. If I am wrong on any it is my fault.

18) Blondie "Rip Her To Shreds":

19) Brick "Dazz":

20) I love the mellow funk of this song. Brothers Johnson "Strawberry Letter #23":

21) Jackson Browne "Load Out/ Stay":

22) Jackson Browne with Crosby, Stills and Nash "The Pretender":

23) Jackson Browne "Running On Empty":

24) Jimmy Buffet "Margaritaville":

25) Captain & Tennille "Circles":

26) Captain and Tennille "Come In From The Rain":

27) Carpenters "All You Get From A Love Song Is A Love Song":

28) The Carpenters "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft":

29) Glen Campbell "Southern Nights":

30) Glen Campbell "Sunflower":

"I Want You To Want Me" was originally released in 1977 and didn't chart. But it was performed at the Budakon in 1978 and went to #7.Pre Budakon. 31) Cheap Trick "I Want You To Want Me":

32) Chicago "Baby What A Big Surprise":

33) Eric Clapton "Lay Down Sally":

34) Eric Clapton "Wonderful Tonight":

(Finished November 14th, 2021) Part 1 of The Best Songs of 1977

As improbable as it seems Abba is back with their first new music in 40 years. The name of that CD is "Voyage" and I haven't listened to it enough to have a fair opinion. 1) Abba "Dancing Queen":

2) Abba "Knowing Me":

3) Abba "The Name of the Game":

Steven Tyler is one of the grossest rockers there is, he's an incredibly cringeworthy person. That being said Aerosmith has had many great songs over the years. 4) Aerosmith "Walk This Way":

After opening in Conneticut in 1976, this famous play made it's Broadway debut in 1977. 5) From "Annie", "It's A Hard Knock Life":

6) Andrea McArdle "Tomorrow":

7) The Babys "Isn't It Time":

8) The Bar Kays "Too Hot To Stop":

9) Bee Gees "How Deep Is Your Love":

10) Bee Gees "More Than A Woman":

11) Bee Gees "Night Fever":

12) Bee Gees "Stayin' Alive":

13) Stephen Bishop "On and On":

14) Blue Oyster Cult "This Ain't The Summer of Love":

This CD was released in 1976, but these two songs were released as singles in 1977. 15) Boston "Foreplay/ Long Time":

Yes, I know the sounds sucks on this song. 16) Boston "Peace of Mind":

17) Their last semi-hit. Bread "Hooked On You":

(Updated November 13th, 2021 and Finished February 26th, 2023) Part 3 of The Best Rock Music of the Late 70's: 1976-1980, Songs 35-51

Hello,

For some reason the blogs I've been writing since February 20th of this year have receive NO page views. So to still capture some eyeballs I'm going to go back and finish old blogs that people can see.

I was watching the first episode of the newly reprised "Freaks and Geeks" on Hulu the other day. It's based in 1980 and has many of the great songs of that time play in the show. The song that really stood out was Styx's "Come Sail Away". It's a song I didn't like much for the longest time but have grown to like over the last few years. But last night it really hit me how great of a song it is. For 1979 it was a terrible year for rock music as that year was the peak of disco. But there are still dozens of great rock classics in this five year window. Here's over 140 songs from that era.

35) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Breakdown":

36) Supertramp "Give A Little Bit":

37) Joe Walsh "Life's Been Good":

38) Joe Jackson "Is She Really Going Out With Him":

39) AC/DC "Hells Bells":

40) Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb":

41) Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band "Main Street":

42) Heart "Barracuda":

43) The Who "Who Are You":

44) Nick Lowe "Cruel To Be Kind":

45) .38 Special "Rockin' Into The Night":

46) Billy Joel "Sometimes A Fantasy":

47) The Runaways "Cherry Bomb":

48) The Steve Miller Band "Jet Airliner":

49) Ace Frehley performing it here with all of Kiss.  "New York Groove":

50) The Police "Message In A Bottle":

Okay this is a Disco song, but it's by a rocker. It's a hybrid rocker. Stewart wasn't the only rocker that briefly went over to the fun side of disco. 51) Rod Stewart "Passion":

(Finished November 12th, 2021) Part 5 of Best Country Songs 2000-2010

Hello,

In honor of last night's pretty good Diamond Rio concert, I want to do a series of blogs of the best country songs from 2000-2010. I realize that's not the usual ten year timeframe that people usually use, but I'm feeling rebellious today. I started off with five songs from Diamond Rio and then shared many other songs from those eleven years.

I also saw Little Big Town on September 10th and they put on one hell of a show. If you get a chance to go see Little Big Town do not miss them.

69) The Chicks "Goodbye Earl":

70) Sugarland "Something More":

71) Lonestar "With Me":

72) Garth Brooks "Why Ain't I Running":

73) James Otto "Just Started Loving You":

74) Big and Rich "Live This Life":

I hated Hootie and the Blowfish, but damn I do love this Darius Rucker song. 75) Darius Rucker "Don't Think I Don't Think About It":

76) Montgomery Gentry "Roll With Me":

77) Taylor Swift "Our Song":

78) Big & Rich "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)":

79) Joe Nichols "Gimme That Girl":

80) Zac Brown Band "As She's Walking Away":

81) Thompson Square "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not":

82) The Zac Brown Band "Colder Weather":

83) Dierks Bentley "What Was I Thinking":

84) Faith Hill "Mississippi Girl":

Such a great song, but I love the message of the hope at the end of the song. 85) John Michael Montgomery "The Little Girl":
