(Updated November 13th, 2021 and Finished February 26th, 2023) Part 3 of The Best Rock Music of the Late 70's: 1976-1980, Songs 35-51

Hello,

For some reason the blogs I've been writing since February 20th of this year have receive NO page views. So to still capture some eyeballs I'm going to go back and finish old blogs that people can see.

I was watching the first episode of the newly reprised "Freaks and Geeks" on Hulu the other day. It's based in 1980 and has many of the great songs of that time play in the show. The song that really stood out was Styx's "Come Sail Away". It's a song I didn't like much for the longest time but have grown to like over the last few years. But last night it really hit me how great of a song it is. For 1979 it was a terrible year for rock music as that year was the peak of disco. But there are still dozens of great rock classics in this five year window. Here's over 140 songs from that era.

35) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Breakdown":

36) Supertramp "Give A Little Bit":

37) Joe Walsh "Life's Been Good":

38) Joe Jackson "Is She Really Going Out With Him":

39) AC/DC "Hells Bells":

40) Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb":

41) Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band "Main Street":

42) Heart "Barracuda":

43) The Who "Who Are You":

44) Nick Lowe "Cruel To Be Kind":

45) .38 Special "Rockin' Into The Night":

46) Billy Joel "Sometimes A Fantasy":

47) The Runaways "Cherry Bomb":

48) The Steve Miller Band "Jet Airliner":

49) Ace Frehley performing it here with all of Kiss.  "New York Groove":

50) The Police "Message In A Bottle":

Okay this is a Disco song, but it's by a rocker. It's a hybrid rocker. Stewart wasn't the only rocker that briefly went over to the fun side of disco. 51) Rod Stewart "Passion":
