(Finished November 23rd, 2021) Part 1 of The Best Songs of 1962

Hello,

With 2022 rapidly approaching I thought I would review the best songs of 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2012. I would have gone back further but I know very few songs from either 1942 or 1952. If a song was a significant chart factor in two years I will include that song in both years.

These songs are the best songs of 1962, not the biggest hits. A lot of great songs never become a hit.

Also the biggest pop culture trend of the early 60s was the twist dance. From the Chubby Checker classic song came a whole slew of imitators. You'll notice those twist songs throughout this entire blog series. Chubby Checker's "The Twist" went to #1 in 1960. Then it went back to number 1 in 1962. The only song of the rock era to go to #1 in two different years.

1) Eddy Arnold "You Slipped A Little Heartache In On Me":

2) The Beach Boys "409":

3) The Beach Boys "Surfin' Safari":

4) The Beach Boys "Ten Little Indians":

5) The Beatles "Love Me Do":

6) Tony Bennett "I Left My Heart In San Francisco":

7) Blue Bells "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman":

8) Pat Boone "Speedy Gonzales":

9) Brook Benton "Hit Record":

10) Brook Benton "Lie To Me":

11) Brook Benton "Shadrack"

12) Brook Benton "Walk On The Wild Side":

13) Gary "U.S." Bonds "Dear Lady Twist":

14) Gary "U.S." Bonds "Twist Twist Senora":

15) Solomon Burke "Cry To Me":

The actual song starts about the 30 second mark. 16) Freddy Cannon "Palisades Park":

17) Johnny Cash (With The Carter Family) "Busted":
