Natalie Imbruglia's new CD is titled "Male", she covers classic and not so classic songs by male singers. First up is two classic songs. then "Instant Crush" is one of my favorite songs from "Male".
A Natalie Imbruglia's threeplay "Torn":
"Wishing I Was There":
"Instant Crush":
Florence + The Machine's "If Only For A Night":
Christina Perri's "bluebird":
Christina Perri's "bang bang bang":
From "bang bang bang" to "Bang Bang Boom Boom" from the lovely Miss Beth Hart:
One of the songs Miss Imbruglia covers on her CD is Tom Petty's "The Waiting", Petty does the better version.
I was reminded of these two songs after listening to a recent Ozzy greatest hits CD "Memoirs of A Madman". It sadly features one of the worst songs he's ever recorded, which is the song "Changes". It's a duet he sang with his daughter, probably a decision that wasn't his. It really is an awful song, I wouldn't even add it to my iTunes.
Ozzy's "Road To Nowhere":
Ozzy's "Mama I'm Coming Home":
Ozzy isn't the only one on the road to nowhere, so are The Talking Heads:
Def Leppard's "Rocket":
Paula Abdul "Straight Up":
Missing Persons' "Words":
Backstreet Boys "Quit Playing Games With My Heart":
What happens when two children of the 80's get together for their first date? What's the music played? I promise you no music was hurt in the making of this blog.
Olivia Newton-John's "Hopelessly Devoted To You":
Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta "You're The One I Want":
The Police's "Every Breath You Take":
Cyndi Lauper "Time After Time":
Bonnie Tyler "I Need A Hero":
Def Leppard's "Love Bites":
Skid Row's "I Remember You":
Tesla's "Love Song":
Journey's "Faithfully":
Survivor "The Search Is Over":
REO Speedwagon's "One Lonely Night":
A Flock of Seagulls "Space Age Love Song":
The Flirts "Jukebox (Don't Put A Dime In The Jukebox)":
The Cure "Just Like Heaven":
Modern English's "I Melt With You":
Tears For Fears "Everybody Wants To Rule The World":
These are some songs that I like and have stumbled across/been reminded of the last few days. My thanks to Entertainment Weekly, Youtube, situations at work, my iTunes and iPod and Rdio.
But first let's start in the greatest decade for music, the 80's. Billy Idol's "White Wedding, Part 1":
Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts" (Live):
We are undergoing a major computer upgrade where I work. The previous system wasn't very good and so far the new upgrade isn't much better. For some reason this song came to mind, Neil Young's "Piece of Crap":
And of course this is the attitude they want us to have: Katrina and the Waves "Walking On Sunshine":
One of the best singers from the 80s was Cyndi Lauper, she had a large hand in writing the excellent music from the Broadway play "Kinky Boots". This is one of the many great songs from that play. Anton Stephens' "Not My Father's Son":
With the Pittsburgh Pirates playing so well, could this year be the return of the "We Are Family" phenomenon in Pittsburgh? The 1979 World Series was one of the best in my lifetime.
Not every Disco song holds up all these years later, but this still sounds great. Sister Sledge's "We Are Family":
After moving back, let's move forward again. From 1991 Ozzy Osbourne's "No More Tears":
Here's a couple of songs from the not so good, 80's themed "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll":
Elisabeth Gilles "Desire":
Elisabeth Gilles "New York 2015":
Here are two survivors from the 80's who are still making relevant music. First up New Order's "Restless":
and Prince's "Stare": (Of course in Prince's infinite wisdom, he won't allow his music on Youtube. He seems to prefer amateur musicians to play his music.)
Here are three songs from the last few years:
Florence + The Machine's "Shake It Out":
I haven't done one of these for awhile. Here's my continuing blog series of songs by great artists whose name starts with a certain letter.Tonight blog is f- my second f blog.
1) First Aid Kit "Ghost Town":
2) Finger Eleven's "Paralyzer":
3) Fitz and the Tantrums threeplay

My last blog featured some of the more obscure songs on my blog ranging from relatively obscure (Black Stone Cherry's "Blame It On The Boom Boom" to not obscure (Avril Lavigne's "The Best Damn Thing") to some of the most famous songs of all-time (Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and The Who's "Baba O' Riley.)
For the next 3 blogs I'm going to list the truly obscure songs on my iPod. I don't ever listen to the radio so I don't really know what's obscure and what isn't. And if you've ever paid attention to my blog, many of these songs won't be obscure at all. I'm always looking for new music but I love my all time favorite songs. It's my guess that these songs are obscure, I've snuck in a few songs just because I like them. Here goes and enjoy:
A 90's classic: 1) The Toadies "Possum Kingdom":
One of the original Go Go's: 2) Jane Wiedlin's "Rush Hour":
Just a great song: 3) Stone Temple Pilot's "Wicked Garden":
Recently featured on my blog, but this song has not received enough love: 4) Dragonette's "Pick Up The Phone":
Not really an obscure song, just a very old song. It's still an amazing song after all these years. 5) Boz Skaggs "Lowdown":
One of those bands that seemed like they should have been bigger than they actually ended up being. 6) 12 Stones "Open Your Eyes":
Now I'm pretty darn sure this song is obscure, although it shouldn't be. 7) The Swellers "Sleeper":
Another one of those bands that come out of nowhere and leave just as quickly, but they leave behind a few pop gems like this. We Are Scientists "Nobody Move, Nobody Gets Hurt":
See above: Polar Bear Club "Living Saints":
I'm a big Redlight King fan, especially his amazing first CD, "Something For The Pain". This is "City Life":
Another classic, this one about a simpler time. Eddie Money's "I Wanna Go Back":
From the very solid "Drones" CD, Muse's latest CD. Muse's "Reapers":
Another 90's odd ball classic. Soul Coughing's "Super Bon Bon":
Not sure how this excellent song didn't break wider. Keaton Simmons' "Nobody Knows":
Great singer, great song. Red Five's "Your Creation":
Despite it's goofiness, it still works. KLF's "Stand By The Jams":
Another 90's classic. Tori Amos' "Crucify":
See above. SR-71's "Right Now":
From one of the best voices in rock music, although he never reached the fame he deserved. Dio's "Mystery":
One of the many great songs from the "Singles" soundtrack. Paul Westerburg's "Dyslexic Heart":
A band that should get more attention. Pop Evil's "Deal With The Devil":
All these songs are currently rocking my iPod. Now when I say obscure I don't mean that hardly anyone has ever heard them. I mean they are obscure when it comes being on my blog. I noticed that I pick the same few songs over and over again. This time I'm going with great songs that haven't been on my blog enough. Enjoy!
1) Redlight King's "Underground":
2) Shinedown's "Adrenaline":
3) Kenny Chesney's "All I Need To Know":
4) The Who's "Baba O'Riley" (Definitely not obscure, but my usual go to The Who jam is "Won't Get Fooled Again"- which I love listening to at work.)
5) Beth Hart's "Bang Bang Boom Boom":
6) Avril Lavigne's "The Best Damn Thing":
7) Billy Squier's "Big Beat":
8) Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" (sorry I love this song and video):
9) Black Stone Cherry "Blame It On The Boom Boom":
10) Three Days Grace "Break":
11) Neneh Cherry "Buffalo Stance":
12) Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive":
13) The Breeders "Cannonball":
14) The Kinks "Come Dancing" (Okay this song might have been on my blog a few times, just a great song and I love the lyrics.)
15) Fratelli's "Creepin' Up The Backstairs":
16) Muse's "Dead Inside" (I may or may not feel like this at work sometimes.)

Dire Straits "Working For The Living":
Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman":
Lee Dorsey "Working In The Coal Mine":
Sam Cooke "Working On The Chain Gang":
What do you do if you dread going to work everyday, Wilson Phillips "Hold On":
I'm in a bit of a rock mood lately as one week ago today was one of the best nights of my life. It was the Motley Crue/ Alice Cooper concert that I went with an amazing woman too. Then in about 7 weeks I'll be seeing Def Leppard/Styx and Tesla in concert with a bunch of peeps. Due to that and going to see "Pixels" today here's a blog of classic, old school rock.
And I think we can all agree with a theme from "Pixels" that "nerds are the best kissers because we appreciate it more. So kiss a nerd today! Anyway on with the classic rock music, starting with 3 songs played in "Pixels". Rock on!
Queen + VonLichten's "We Will Rock You":
Here's the theme song for any job, Loverboy's "Working For The Weekend":
Cheap Trick's "Surrender":
Def Leppard's "Rock of Ages":
Styx's "Blue Collar Man":
Tesla's "Heaven's Trail (No Way Out)":
A double shot from Tesla, this is "Little Suzi":
Alice Cooper's "Feed My Frankenstein":
This is a great song and a pretty good video. My favorite thing about this video is that the Crue actually try to "act":
I love this song Whitesnake's "Still of the Night":
Metallica's "One":
Skid Row "Slave To The Grind":
Iron Maiden "Hallowed Be Thy Name":
Judas Priest "You've Got Another Thing Coming":
Ozzy Osborne's "Crazy Train":
And of course the video that made fun of so much of the above music, Bowling For Soup's "1985":
I'm not going to lie, I'm still on a bit of a high from an amazing night at the Motley Crue concert with the amazing and beautiful Heidi. This song describes perfectly how she made me feel that night.
Two of my favorite country artists are The Band Perry and Lady Antebellum. When I saw that Lady Antebellum was coming to Utah I really wanted to see them. Unfortunately they played the same night as the Crue, and who knows how many more farewell tours the Crue have in them? Catch you next time you are in Salt Lake Lady Antebellum!

Sera and Bilgi's cover of John Legend's "All Of Me":
Peter Cetera's "The Glory of Love":
Thompson Square's "Are You Going To Kiss Me Or Not?":

For being so young, the lovely Miss Swift knows a lot about the thrill of love, "Love Story":
Taylor Swift "Our Song":
Berlin's "Take My Breath Away":
Oasis' "Wonderwall":
Not a big fan of Coldplay, but I do love "Fix You":
Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes":
Captain & Tennille's "The Way I Want To Touch You":
England Dan and John Ford Coley "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight":
Walter Egan's "Magnet and Steel":
"Girl Meets Boy":
Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah":
Savage Garden's "Truly, Madly, Deeply":
Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years":
I was going to post Prince and Sheena Easton's amazing version of "The Arms of Orion", but Prince continues his greedy wise insistence on his music not being on Youtube. And who can blame him?Why would you want free publicity and why wouldn't you want someone to destroy your songs with their awful cover versions?
