(Finished April 11th, 2024) Part 1 of the Best of 1965 to 1967

Hello,

The best songs of 1965 to 1967. How did the music reflect the times and how did the times reflect the music?

Most of the news items below come from this: https://americasbesthistory.com/abhtimeline1960.html

What were some of the historical events that happened in 1965 to 1967?

The Vietnam War intensifies in 1965. Also the first draft card was burned in 1965. In 1966 United States warplanes begin their bombing raids of Hanoi and Haiphong, North Vietnam. Over 400,000 Americans were in country also at that time.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965, which is being dismantled before our eyes now, was signed into law.

The Watts riot occurred in 1965. In July, 1967 Black riots plague Newark, New Jersey. Twenty six are killed, over 1,500 were injured and one thousand were arrested. From July 23rd to July 30th forty more people were killed in Detroit. In a semi-related theme Thurgood Marshall is sworn into office as the first black Supreme Court justice.

Also in 1966 Medicare, a great program for seniors, begins. As someone who works in a hospital I see this great program in practice everyday.
