The Mixx Test Goes On, Hottie of the day

Hello,

Dearest Mixx,

Today was not your best, you played that lame Ke$ha song again, "Love Is My Drug". She's got to be one of the most derivative singers ever. Her brand of pop is so boring and blase. Have you heard "Blah, Blah, Blah", sounds like a bad robot came up with that song.

I also checked out 94.9 today at the suggestion of a reader, I get terrible reception. They play harder edged rock and what I heard today was not very enticing.

I also gave one of my old favorite stations a listen, that's X96. Hey X96, there have been songs released in the last 15 years.

Granted with all three of stations it's been a very small sample, but still I remember why I listen to CDs when driving.

Hottie of the day:

After watching "She's Out Of My League", Keira I think we can make it work. I mean that's based on a true story right? Just because I graduated high school the same year you were born doesn't mean we can't make it work.

The Mixx Experiment Goes On

Hello,

I continue listening to the local radio station Mixx 107.9. I was much more encouraged with the results. I didn't hear any lame rapping over songs or any Ke$ha songs. Both of those are good things.

I did hear songs more like I expected. I heard Allison Iraheta's "Don't Waste The Pretty". I love, love Allison Iraheta. Although dear Mixx dee jay, her last name is pronounced iraheeta, not irahota. They also played Lady Gaga's "Poker Face", Katy Perry's "California Girls" and Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now." Yes I know I thought that was a bit weird as well, but a great song is a great song. And that is a great song. It also sounds like it's a pop mix. Unless there's something amazing coming down the pipe, I nominate "Need You Now" as song of the year.

Here's the Allison Iraheta- Orianthi "Don't Waste The Pretty".

I also heard Hinder's "Lips of An Angel". If it wasn't for Lee Dewyze on "American Idol", that would have been the first time I ever had heard that song today. That's exactly why I'm listening to the radio now. They also played the amazing "Please Don't Leave Me" by Pink. A much better MIXX of music today on the MIXX. Keep it up.

A couple of other quick things. On amazon.com I came across the discussion titled "10 song titles about..." then pick a random word. I'm a geek (Yes, kids I know that. You don't need to tell me again.) so I've been entertained by this. I suggested the word "math" and someone actually came up with 10 songs with the word math in it. The only "math" song I could think of is The White Stripes' "Black Math". Wanna play? go to http://www.amazon.com/tag/pop/forum/ref=cm_cd_NOREF?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx3U4VU9LZIWOFY&cdPage=385&newContentNum=9605&cdMSG=addedToThread&cdSort=oldest&cdThread=Tx1FSCXQAB72FRR&newContentID=Mx3NR1LSYQEZY4W#CustomerDiscussionsNRPB

I have picked the next word, it's "sports", since I can't think of any song with the word "sports" in it, I suggested they could use songs about sports. An example is "Centerfield" by John Fogerty. The only music title with "sports" in it I could think of is the 80's Huey Lewis and the News CD, or was it an album back then? Anyway I had to change it to shadow. Even googling song titles with sports in it I couldn't come up with any songs.

Also iTunes song of the week is Dragonette's "Pick Up The Phone", a band or song I'd never heard of until today. But it's a pretty cool song. I also listened to the CD that song comes from on napster and overall it's pretty good. It's dance- Lady Gaga similar music. You can get that CD "Fixin' To Thrill" also at iTunes for only $5.99 for a limited time. Check it out. Also if you are a fan of iTunes on facebook.com you can get a 15 songs Warped Tour Twenty Ten sampler for free. Seriously what goofball isn't on facebook.com already anyway?

For those of you who love looking at pictures of beautiful women when looking at my blog, here are some. Here's one of my favorite pictures of all-time. It's so good I'm going to have it on my blog twice.

Here's a picture of the newlywed. I'd congratulate Megan Fox, but really I think the congratulations should go to Brian Austin Green. How did he talk her into marrying him? Does the movie "She's Out Of My League" hit a little close to home Brian. Did you notice that Green's acronym for his name is bag? That's what Megan will be doing to him in a couple of years.

Now is it just my imagination, but is Megan Fox going downhill in looks? It seems like it, although she still has an amazing body.

Speaking of amazing bodies:

"She's Out Of My League", James Morrison, Macy Gray

Hello,

Last night I watched every out of shape and unattractive males (peeps unite) fantasy movie. So what I'm saying is Keira Knightly we have a shot if you just give me a chance :). Yes, I watched "She's Out of My League" starring the very attractive Alice Eve. She has an amazing body also. More good news for my fellow geeks, apparently she's in talks to be in the next "X-Man" movie.

This movie is unbelievable on so many levels. A girl like that would never be with a dude like that, unless maybe she was blind. Also if a guy had reservations about being with a hottie extraordinaire, he would first have sex with her then express those reservations. The scene that ends with the dog licking the pants of the main male character is also not believable. That's all I will say about that.

Anyway the song that plays over the closing credits is by one of my favorite artists that's virtually unknown. The song is called "Undiscovered" by James Morrison. That's just one of his many amazing songs. (I'm listening to him on napster.com as I write this.) His best song is "You Give Me Something". I love that song.

Also I'm so out of it when it comes to new music, so the last couple of days I've been listening to the Mixx 107.9 just to check it out. Other than occasional sports programming, I've hardly listened to the radio for about the 5 years. I was reminded why, but I will give this station a couple more days. But right now it's not doing much for me. Some thoughts, does every song now have to have some kind of rapping in it? That is a good addition on so few songs. I think it works on Katy Perry's "California Gurls" but that's one of the few exceptions.

Also do they have to really play Ke$ha all the time. I have heard "Love Is A Drug" twice in the short time I have listened to this station. She's a wanna be Lady Gaga. I'm old I admit it, but all of today's music sounds alike. Really are there are only 10 songs that they can play? And is dance pop with a rap interlude the only music out there now? Sometimes they play Daughtry and that sounds weird in between Ke$ha's "Love Is The Drug". It's good to hear that, it shows how disposable those other songs are. There are very few songs that stand out on this station unless of how bad it is. I know it's way out of the box, something that scares corporate America to death, but would it hurt the Mixx to play some Macy Gray?

Another song I've heard a lot is this one. I was surprised to hear it was by Michael Buble.

Now here's some good music I could get use to hearing, Lady Gaga's "You and I". According to her this is the debut of this song and I really like it. I love Lady Gaga, she has had about 20 great songs in a row. I'm sorry the sound on this video is terrible. This is just her latest greatest song:

Yesterday I finished reading James Sheehan's "The Mayor of Lexington Avenue". It's a pretty good book if a little derivative of John Grisham and Elmore Leonard. It's not the greatest book ever, but it's a perfect summer book. Now I have to make a very hard decision. What's the next book I should start reading? I was going to read Justin Cronin's "The Passage", but I have several good books from the library I can read. Decisions, decisions!

Also Macy Gray is back I love her new CD, "Sell Out". Check it out. Here's one of her new songs.

Here's one of her older songs in case you forgot who she is. Everyone knows "I Try", so here's an older song that just is as good:

USA-Ghana Game Day

Hello,

I woke up thinking of soccer this morning, that's not something that usually happens. The countdown is on for the USA-Ghana match up today. The winner of that match plays the winner of Uruguay-South Korea, which conveniently is the game before. That game starts at 10:00am EST. Go USA!

Uruguay beat South Korea 2-1 so they await the winner of the U.S.A. and Ghana.

I can't believe the USA gave up an early goal again and trail 1-0 at halftime against Ghana. Real Salt Lake striker and USA team member Robbie Findley, you've got to barely that ball in the back of the 'net when you have that good of a chance again!

Landon Donavan, you are the man. It's tied 1-1 going into extra time. 30 minutes of play and then penalty kicks. The winner play Uruguay on Friday. Nerve wracking stuff. Too little, too late for the United States. The U.S.A. continues to move forward in soccer, but it's very slow. I was hoping to see more from Jozy Altidore and Robbie Findley in this World Cup. Clint Dempsey and Landon Donavan are obviously the two heroes of this World Cup for the U.S.A. Two World Cups in a row the U.S.A. loses to Ghana, a nation it is 23 times larger.

Congratulations to Edwin Jackson, who threw the 4th no-hitter of the season. This was one of the gutsiest no-hitters ever. He started out very wildly. He threw 149 pitches, the most thrown in MLB in 5 years. He also gave up 8 walks. This pitching performance was a masterpiece, but an ugly masterpiece. Still a no-hitter is a no-hitter. It's been an amazing year for pitchers. (Thanks to espn.com and the Associated Press.)

When it comes to my love life, this is the song that is most prevalent in my thoughts:

I understand the point of the song, but what's the point of this very strange video. It's a great song though.

And this is the kind of woman I want to avoid:

The first two lines just bring back to many bad memories.

Me old my lady sittin' in the shade
Talkin' about the money that I ain't made
Singin' o boy dontcha line the
Track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track
O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track

If I could, I surely would
Stand on the rock that Moses stood
singin' o boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track
O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track

Drank so much hooch
It made my eyes be gettin' blurry
They say I nailed her to the wall
A stitch in time don't mean a thing
No hangman jury could make me crawl
Cause I'm a poor boy
Dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track
O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
OOO

Whacha do with the gun that's loaded
Shot her dead and her heart exploded
Tell me baby now d-dontcha worry
Like lying to a hangman jury

[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/b8X ]
I swear I didn't know that 45 was loaded
In fact my memory ain't so clear
That's not to say she didn't
get what she deserved
Least that's the way it looks from here
Boy when you line the track a lack a
Hey boy dontcha line the track

OOO my love came tumblin' down
OOO love came tumblin' down
OOO (Let's get outta here)
Love come tumblin'

And every night she take her thing
Into the city and in the
mornin' make me beg cause
If I'd taken all her real titty gritty
I'd smack her right upside the head boy
Dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track
O boy dontcha line the track

OOO my love came tumblin' down
OOO love came tumblin' down
OOO love come tumblin'

Poor boy sweatin' in the hot summer night
Hangman waitin' for the early morning light
Singin' O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track
O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track

If I could, I surely would
Stand on the rock that Moses done stood
Singin' O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track
O boy dontcha line the track a lack a
O boy dontcha line the track

Following the game, themusicaddict should be back later. I'll be very sad or ecstatic.

More World Cup Excitement!

Hello,

As you know Saturday early afternoon the USA plays Ghana in the knockout round of the World Cup. I'm very pumped for this game, I'm expecting quite an exciting game. Ghana finished second in Group D behind the powerful Germans. The last time these two teams played in the World Cup, it was also in the knockout round and Ghana won. The USA owes Ghana one.

Go USA!

Things I've Learned. Jessica Wowba, Megan The Fox

Hello,

A quick review of the CD "Monitor" by Titus Andronicus. This band has been receiving a lot of buzz. I listened to their new CD "Monitor" and I'm not sure why. It's okay, but not worth one's hard earned money. Also the continual, unneeded use of the "f bomb" is stupid. It seems like they just discovered this word, fell in love with it and now are using it as many times as they can. Very disappointing.

A much better CD is Madonna's "Sticky and Sweet" tour CD. I like how she mixes some of her older songs and newer songs together. Her "Borderline" is rocked out. It's a good mix of classic and newer Madonna music. One of her newer songs that comes off very well is "She's Not Me". She's a little too fond of the "f bomb" as well. She's still trying to be controversial I guess.

This is something I stole from Esquire Magazine, one of the three best magazines in the world. The other two are Sports Illustrated and Rolling Stone, for those keeping score at home. I was inspired by Gilbert Arenas' "What I've Learned" in the April Esquire.

Before I get to those I want to let you know the funniest (unintentionally) moment in the piece. Idiot Arenas is explaining his side of the guns in the Wizards locker room. His take is that it's a joke gone bad. He and the other player, Javaris Crittendon, were jawing back and forth. According to Arenas, at one point Crittendon says, "No, this is some street shit" about the gambling that allegedly started the issue. One millionaire saying anything about "street" to another millionaire I find hilarious. The only street either one of them should be talking about is Wall Street.

Driving to work I decided to write my own. In my "What I've Learned" there is no guns or sex. Sorry.

Things I’ve Learned

1) Don’t be greedy.
2) Karma is real. Pay it forward if you want a happier life. You still will have struggles though.
3) Let gossip end with you. If you must talk about other people, talk about all their good traits.
4) Music is a relatively cheap form of therapy.
5) Always be grateful for what you have, you could always have less. (Believe me I’ve learned this the hard way.)
6) Don’t whine. (Just because I’ve learned this doesn’t mean I don’t do it.)
7) If you don't have the cash on hand, don't buy it.
8) Is there anything better than a pretty woman. Here are a couple of examples. I get both of the following pictures from Esquire's Hot Girls of Summer 1985-2010, which is actually rather disappointing.

Here's an example of that most valuable resource:

more to come,

P.S. Wake up early and cheer on your fellow Americans in the World Cup for the right to advance to the knockout round. If they win, they're in.

Happy Father's Day on a lazy Sunday afternoon

Hello,

Happy Father's Day to all you Father's out there.

Just a lazy Sunday afternoon, haven't written for awhile. Not much going on.

I'm glad the NBA Finals are over. What a snoozer, yawn! I proudly state that I didn't watch one minute of Game 7. However I nearly watched every minutes of the two USA World Cup matches. I will be at work Wednesday and can't watch the third game.

The World Cup going on and it's been much more entertaining. The biggest topic has been the vulvazuela and whether it adds or detracts from the World Cup. I'm sort of neutral on the issue, but if people want to blow it go for it. This only happens every 4 years.

USA has been playing mediocre and so their two ties are appropriate. I was very happy with their tie against England, one of the world's soccer super powers. However the tie against Slovenia was unforgivable. Yes I know what you are saying, the USA should have won. That would have been amazing victory but their sub par performance in the first half means they should be very happy they escaped with a tie.

Now it comes down to Wednesday's very crucial game against Algeria. If the USA doesn't win that game and advance to the next round, they should hang their heads in shame.

I've sort of been disappointed with Robbie Findlay's play. What good is all his speed if he can't get effective shots on goal. I love Jozy Altidore and his occaisonal flashes of brillance. Those need to be more frequent and more sustained though. Landon Donavan had that amazing goal against Slovenia.

Go USA!

Great love songs

Hello,

With the divorce final, a man's mind turns to thoughts of new love. This blog goes out to a very special person, she knows who she is. We aren't a couple, she's just been a really good friend (not with benefits.) I'm not ready to get into a serious relationship at this time. I'm sorry I wasn't ready to meet tonight.

I still need to work through some feelings of anger left over from the end of my marriage. There are also so many financial burdens I have ahead of me. Unless I marry Warren Buffet's daughter any new marriage/ relationship is going to start out not financially strong. I'm currently looking for a second job. If you know of anything, send me an e-mail. I once heard someone say that divorce is the worst financial decision you can make. I've come to find that out for myself. I thought I was poor before, it's a good thing I can live with my parents.

I also have to consider my kids and there are about a million other issues to worry about. Hey but other than that, it's a piece of cake :)

Love songs 101. These are pure love songs, not love and sex songs. These are just love songs. Songs you could listen to at a church dance. (Obviously I'm not referring to the church which was playing Led Zeppelin.) These also might not be traditional love songs. Again the feeling of love and not the act of sex is the point here. (That's why Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" is not on this list. Listen to the lyrics.) Being in love is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I'm listening to iTunes to try and get some ideas for more songs. No iTunes "Every Rose Has It's Thorns" is not a love song. Yes, Katherine McPhee's "Terrified" is a much better choice.

Surprisingly Sugarland, my favorite country band, doesn't have any great love songs. Now if I was writing an adultery blog, which I never will, I could use "Stay". Jennifer Nettles it's about time to sing some great love songs. Jennifer Nettles has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard. Again not all songs necessarily apply to my personal situation.

First up the gorgeous Katherine McPhee.

Here goes with her song:

You can never go wrong with the Black Eyed Peas, especially when Fergie gets to the chorus. (Although Fergie is Fergalicious, I'm sorry she's not hot enough for this blog.)

Wow I love this song, Matchbox Twenty:

Is this not one of the most beautiful songs of all-time. Colbie C's "Bubbly".

Another achingly beautiful song, from a Blues masters B.B. King. This is "Hummingbird". ("The Thrill Is Gone" will be on an angry blog.)

Sometimes I get impatient
but she cools me without words
and she comes so sweet and so plain
my hummingbird and have you heard
that I thought my life had ended
but I find that it’s just begun
cause she gets me where I live
I’ll give all I have to give
I’m talking about that hummingbird
oh she’s little and she loves me
too much for words to say
when I see her in the morning sleeping
she’s little and she loves me
to my lucky day
hummingbird don’t fly away

When I’m feeling wild and lonesome
she knows the words to say
and she gives me a little understanding
in her special way
and I just have to say
in my life I loved a woman
because she’s more than I deserve
and she gets me where I live
I’ll give all I have to give
I’m talking about that hummingbird
oh she’s little and she loves me
too much for words to say
when I see her in the morning sleeping
she’s little and she loves me
to my lucky day
hummingbird don’t fly away

What do you say, let's dance. You've got to love the 80's. (Quick review: I love Dope's version of this song, Flo Rida go away.) In case you're wondering, the singer is a man.

I love, love, love this song. (Is that enough love for you?) Kenny Chesney "How Forever Feels".

Another great song, I love Lifehouse and the lead singer's voice. "Hanging By A Moment":

Another amazing song and another amazing voice, Natalie Maines. The Dixie Chicks "Baby Hold On".

Carrie Underwood where are your great love songs? Come on you are about to get married. This song is the best I could find of hers.

I'll be adding a Green Day song later, you'll understand when you hear it. I just have to track it down. This isn't the song I was talking about, but I think this version of "21 Guns" is pretty amazing. This is from the broadway play.

This is the song I was looking for but I couldn't find out the name of the blonde girl with the amazingly achingly beautiful voice.

Poetry

Hello,

Poetry by themusicaddict

The World Cup is here
Can you feel it in the air?

I love the World Cup, everything about it. I love the players come out of the tunnel holding hands with a child from the host country. In this case that's South Africa. I love the pageantry, that it's actually a world wide competition. There are 32 teams in the World Cup. But many other countries are eliminated along that way to get to the Final 32.

USA vs. England tomorrow morning, early afternoon. Go USA!

And just for the heck of it here's a picture of a hot babe:

Divorce songs

Hello,

When one gets divorced they should be given a T-shirt that says "I survived marriage, I survived divorce, I can make it through anything". My divorce was very tough for me. Now looking back at it I'm not heartbroken the marriage ended. The ex has a lot of good qualities, but she also has a lot of annoying personality quirks.

As I was driving to work I was thinking about some songs that helped me get through my divorce and still are helping me. They may help you also. For the above paragraph Pearl Jam has a great song called "Rearviewmirror" that includes the line... "I saw things clearer, clearer once you were in my rearviewmirror". Hindsight is indeed 20/20. The song also kicks butt!!

Here's the song:

Here's the song I couldn't listen to the first two months into the divorce process. It still gets to me a little bit. I even sent this video to my wife in a last ditch chance to save the marriage, to no avail. What a great song though.

Here's a song about working through the whole process of the end of a relationship. This song is Daughtry's "Over You". He's the patron saint of break up songs and Patsy Cline is the female equivalent.

The most fitting lyrics of this song are, "And when you slammed the front door shut, a lot of others opened up. So did my eyes so I could see."

Another amazing Pearl Jam song about the loss of a relationship:

This is the great B.B. King and probably his most famous song. The title says it best "The Thrill Is Gone".

Another great 90's Seattle band and an appropriate divorce song, although it may not be talking about it directly. Soundgarden's "Fell On Black Days":

Ashton Shepherd has such a great voice. Here comes the liberation:

This kind of ruins the theme I'm establishing here, but another great song, Enigma's "Sadness".

This song might work better for the ex, but it feels appropriated for me as well. Dido rules!

Let's go back to the 80's, relationships were ending then too I guess.

Another classic from the 80's. Ultravox's "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes":

I love how this song builds to a big end. What a great and bitter song. The amazing Sinead O' Connor's "The Last Day of Our Acquintance":

You will make it through the divorce. It isn't the end of the world I promise.

"Prince of Persia" and better movies (although that's not saying much)

Hello,

Happy Birthday Stef.

Warning: Do not go see "Prince of Persia", its a very boring movie. There's a convoluted story and it's one of those movies that never seems to end. Jake Gyllenhall is completely out of place as a Prince of Persia. He's not very convincing in that role.

Due to my debating with a friend of mine about whether in the "Twilight" series Bella is a player or not, I watched "New Moon" the other day. I was very disappointed with the first "Twilight" movie but "New Moon" is a much better movie. Although it's about 10-15 minutes too long. Also the Bella look of anguish got old the third time I saw it- which happened in about the first minute of the movie.

I also watched "Killers" the new movie starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Kutcher plays a CIA assassin until he meets Heigl's character. Kutcher is a producer of this movie and you can see his fingerprints all over it. He carries a camera around some of the time, which seems like he's promoting his camera commercials. Also he walks around without a shirt on most of the movie. Dude put a shirt on. There's also a scene where Katherine Heigl walks around in just a skirt and a blouse, it's completely irrelevant to the storyline. I realize she's a beautiful woman, but what was the point of that.

I actually liked "Killers" quite a bit. Kutcher and Heigl do have a goofy chemistry. There are a lot of humorous moments in the movie as well. The story is more plausible than "Prince of Sleep, er Persia".

Oh man I wish I had more time, there are so many great books out there that need to be read. I'm currently reading Steig Larsson's "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest". This is the third and final book in the Lisbeth Salander trilogy. The first two books were amazing and this one is just as good.

Moving on

Hello,

There seems to be some confusion out there about themusicaddict's love life or lack thereof. Here's the deal: my wife's and my divorce was final on May 24th, 2010. Early March she told me she wanted to get a divorce. At that time I didn't want it and fought it. As time dragged on I could see that was how things were going to work out. Mentally I started preparing myself for a major life change. After I did that and the pain started disappearing I looked forward to the future.

While I'm very grateful that my kids have a wonderful mother, I am no longer in love with her. I don't hate her and I do wish her the best but I'm moving on. I recently signed up for an account at ldssingles.com. (If you are active LDS and trying to meet someone that believes the same, it's a much better site than match.com.) I'm enjoying my freedom by being able to talk to many beautiful women.

If you are visiting this website to get a snapshot of where my head is now, that's where it is. I hope to find an amazing woman, but am in no hurry to marry. Many people tell me I shouldn't even date for at least a year but I'm ready to go. I'm listening to the advice in that I'm not going to rush into a quicky marriage (except for you of course Keira Knightley :)

I also just want to say Mormon women rule!

Have a good day, themusicaddict
