(Finished October 30th, 2023) The Top 17 Songs 40 Years Ago, October 29th, 1983

Hello,

Ah 1983, good times. themusicaddict enters high school and MTV is in full motion. Those two things are connected but only tangentially. Many a hour I spent in front of an old beater TV watching MTV.

The following comes from: https://hobbylark.com/party-games/1983-Fun-Facts-and-Trivia

Other notable events of 1983: Sally Ride became the first woman in space, Thistle, Utah was destroyed by a big landslide, the unemployment rate was 8.0%- about 3 times higher than it is now- the Washington Redskins- yes, Redskins- won the Super Bowl and the Orioles won the World Series. Other items of note: More than 10 million computers were being used and the first version of Microsoft Word was released- how antiquated would that look now?

Also the tv series MASH ended on a very subdued note. Companies such as CostCo, Sam's Club and Verizon Communications all were started. 1983 was the year of two Stephen King books "Christine" and "Pet Semetary". "Christine" was the book that got me to fall in love with the writing of Stephen King, I have read about 80% of his books. "Flashdance" taught the world to dance and "A Christmas Story" made us rethink the word "fragile".
