(Finished October 21st, 2023) Part 5 of The Best of 90s Rock: 69-85

Hello,

What is the 90s known for? The 90s is known for the rise of the Internet, "Saved By The Bell"- which of course means Tiffani Amber-Thiessen. The 90s is also known for Grunge, which means Seattle and flannel and darker themed music. Speaking of Grunge that would mean "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Evenflow", "Rusty Cage" and "Rooster".

Other things the 90s are known for one of the best albums of all-time, Metallica's "The Black Album". It's so good they released a 4 disc remake of it performed by other singers. Other great things about the 90s include Blockbusters- so many great memories about getting videos there. I know that seems ridiculous now in the age of on demand.

Also OJ Simpson's White Bronco, slap bracelets (they were a bit addictive), The Macarena, "The Bodyguard" and the power of Whitney Houston's voice, colorful iMacs, Weezer's the so-called blue album, one of the dumbest fads of all-time- beanie babies-

Alanis Morissette, "You Oughta Know" and "swallow it down jagged little pill". I remember when that CD was breaking, what a breath of fresh air that CD was. I know it wasn't her first CD, but for all intents and purposes it was. Also one of the best albums of the 90s.

Other things continued Aqua's "Barbie Girl"- from another one of the best albums of the 90s, "Fava beans and a nice Chianti", so much nervousness about Y2k- which was so incredibly anti-climactic.

Finally No Doubt, "as if", "psyche", yet another great first CD- "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", "Saving Private Ryan", "Independence Day" (although it has not aged well at all) and "Jurassic Park". If you loved the "Jurassic Park" movie you'll really love Michael Crichton's novel. Other great novels Frank McCourt's "Angela's Ashes", Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander", Tracy Chevalier's "The Girl With The Pearl Earring", Michael Ondaatje's "The English Patient"- one of the few times the movie is better than the book, Richard Preston's "The Hot Zone", Margaret Atwood's brilliant "The Robber Bride", Zadie Smith's "White Teeth", Jon Krakauer's "Into Thin Air", Tom Brokaw's "The Greatest Generation" and so many others.
