Hello,
Every Day Is Game Day!
I'm so fired up for tonight's BYU-Utah football game. And as a BYU fan, I'm feeling extremely cocky. I'm not sure why as it's a rivalry game and in this rivalry game, usually you can throw out the records. BYU has the better record, but I expect this to be a very evenly matched game.
The Utes has won 7 of the last 10 games, which is something that needs to be corrected. Then last year at LaVell Edwards Stadium, the Utes laid a whipping on BYU 54-10. I'd like to complain that Utah ran up the score, but they didn't. Due to BYU's alleged quarterback Jake Heaps, he helped the Utes to go off on a strong start. And the Utes cruised to a very easy victory. The Utes scored so many points as the Cougars plainly gave up.
Thankfully that terrible quarterback transferred to Kansas and senior Riley Nelson is now BYU's starting quarterback. While he certainly is better than Heaps, I don't have a ton of confidence in him either. His throws aren't the desired spirals and honestly it feels like he throws the ball up for grabs sometimes. He also wants to tuck the ball and run too many times. Those are usually effective plays, for instance the quarterback draw, but it puts him at risk too injury. The quarterbacks don't have much depth behind Nelson.
I just hope BYU doesn't fall in love with the passing game, even if it's amazingly effective. That would leave them predictable and the Utes defensive line can take advantage of that. BYU needs to do like the Aggies last week and make sure Star Lotulelei's name is mentioned as little as possible. In other words run away from him or find some way to bypass him. Bypass is what ESPN's Trevor Matich suggested.
But BYU can't ever give up on the run, they need to have a balanced offense. Get a few effective running plays and then BYU can use the pass action game.
Also if BYU wins tonight (I'm cocky, but not crazy) can my fellow BYU fans please stop the BCS insanity. I would ask people delay that as long as possible.
