The Feel Good Orioles Team Rolls On

Hello,

The Yankees played in the afternoon yesterday and they had lost to the Blue Jays. (Thank you Blue Jays!) So the time the Orioles-Red Sox game started last night the Orioles were only one-half game behind the Yankees. With a win they'd be tied with New York for the lead in the AL East. The Orioles jumped to a 3-0 lead on the Red Sox. However Boston showed some fight and came back and tied the Orioles at 3-3. Then mid-season call up Manny Machado hit a home run in the bottom of the 7th inning and the Orioles held on for a 4-3 win. The Orioles and Yankees are now tied for first place in the AL East. Both teams have 4 games left in their seasons.

Not only are the Orioles and Yankees battling for the AL East, but they are also battling for who hosts a game if a tiebreaker is needed. The AL Wildcard continues to be close as well. Oakland is on track to be the AL's second wild card team. However they also could move up to be the AL Wild Card's first place wild card team. That means they'd be able to host the AL Wildcard playoff game.

In the NL playoff chase the only remaining intrigue is whether the Dodgers can catch the Cardinals. Entering Sunday's games, St. Louis lead the Dodgers by two games. Both teams have 4 games left. After the Dodgers and Cardinals games today, both the Dodgers will be playing their final 3 games against first place teams. Both teams will also be playing at home.

Both the AL East and the AL Wild Card should make for a very exciting final 4 days of the regular season. I'm fairly sure that the Cardinals will hold on in the NL Wild Card.
