Dodgers Daily, September 21st, 2013: Dodgers & Pirates Win, Kershaw and Burnett Deliver

Hello,

On Saturday the Dodgers won 4-0, they were powered by homers from A.J. Ellis and Yasiel Puig. Clayton Kershaw improved his Cy Young award chances with another impressive outing. In his 7 inning outing, he allowed only 3 hits and 0 runs. He improved his record to 15-9 and lowered his ERA to 1.88.

Also the Pirates won a big game, defeating the Reds by a score of 4-2. This was a huge win for the Pirates and I'm so glad they didn't let this game slip away. A.J. Burnett had a solid outing for the Pirates. He allowed only 4 hits and 2 runs. However he also had 12 strikeouts in Pittsburgh's victory. Burnett improves to 9-11 and lowers his ERA to 1.88.

However St. Louis also won, so they remain 2 games ahead of Pittsburgh in the NL Central. The Reds are in third place and are 3 games back. As it has been most this second half of the season, the two teams who don't win the NL Central will play in the NL one game NL Wild Card. All 3 teams only have 7 games left, this should be an exciting final week of the season.

The AL Wild Card remains close as well, the two Wild Card teams right now would be Tampa Bay and Cleveland. The Rangers are only .5 game back of Cleveland, while the Yankees are 3 games back. It looks like Mariano Rivera's final season in the MLB is going to end without playing in one more playoffs.
