themusicaddict Goes To The Movies In The 80's, Great 80s Movie Music

Hello,

This is the latest blog in my 80's music blog series, this blog is about all the great music in 80's movies. As always if a video doesn't play on this blog, please find it elsewhere. themusicaddict's preferred video website is Youtube, but there are many websites where you can watch videos. Warning: if you go to mtv.com, be prepared to have to deal with a lot of sleeze. Many videos pander to the lowest common denominator. As always these aren't greatest hits blogs, they're greatest songs blogs. Enjoy!

In my opinion the two best soundtracks of the 80s are "Pretty In Pink" and "Purple Rain". I looked for the entire soundtrack of "Pretty In Pink" on Youtube, but that video hasn't been made yet. Here are some of my favorite songs from that movie. Honestly every song from "Pretty In Pink" is great. I'm not going to add a video for every song because it's an 80s greatest movie songs blog, not greatest CDs of all-time blog. Although if you don't have this CD you should add it your collection. As of now you can get this soundtrack from amazon.com new for $6.99.

First up The Psychedelic Furs "Pretty In Pink"- btw the soundtrack version of this song is much better than their original version. Isn't she pretty in pink? Yes, Molly Ringwald was very pretty in pink and in any other color for that matter. Even now in 2013, she's still a fine looking woman.

The Danny Hutton Hitters "Wouldn't It Be Good":

And who better to have a song about unrequited teen love, poor Duckie, than the Smiths. "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want":

New Order's "Shell Shock":

And of course I can't leave off this classic song and video. OMD's "If You Leave":

Due to Prince's greedy, self limiting policy of not allowing his songs to be on Youtube, this is the only video I could find on Youtube and who knows how long this will be here. But even this brief glimpse, poor sound and poor video can't fully hide how much of a genius Prince was and how amazing of a song "Purple Rain" is. Prince's "Purple Rain":

Too bad he won't allow fans like myself highlight other great songs from the "Purple Rain" soundtrack like "Baby, I'm A Star", "Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry" (one of the best things of all-time), "Take Me With You" and the amazing and amoral "Darling Nikki". Since Prince doesn't allow his music on Youtube, here's Incubus' version of "Let's Go Crazy":

Janelle Monae's "Take Me With U":

Noa from the Australian X Factor "When Doves Cry";

Now on to some of the many other great songs from 80s movies. This is from "Rocky 4" Mr. James Brown "Living In America":

From "Back To The Future", Huey Lewis and the News "Power Of Love":

Here's a couple of "heroic songs", from different perspectives:

From the original and will never be topped "Footloose", Bonnie Tyler's "I Need A Hero":

Here's the video with the whole song:

From "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome", Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero":

From "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", Yello's "Oh Yeah":

From "St. Elmo's Fire", John Parr's "St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)". In case you were wondering, yes Demi Moore has always been gorgeous.

From "Karate Kid 2", Peter Cetera's "The Glory of Love":

From "An Officer and a Gentleman", Joe Cocker's and Jennifer Warnes "Up Where We Belong":
This is a truly amazing song:

From 1980's, just barely 80s, "Caddyshack" "I'm Alright":

Kenny Loggins had many of the movie hits from the 80s, this is from "Caddyshack 2". This is "Nobody's Fool":

He had two great songs from "Top Gun":

"Danger Zone":

This wasn't technically a "hit", but it's still a great song. "Playing With The Boys":

"Footloose":
