Dodgers Daily, September 29th, 2013: Dodgers Lose Regular Season Finale, Indians Host AL Wild Card Game

Hello,

The Dodgers finally finished their anti-climactic regular season with their third and last game in this series against the Rockies Sunday. Colorado beat LA 2-1 in a game that I was surprised to see people actually showed up to. LA finished 92-70 and won the NL West by 11 games over the Diamondbacks.

It was Todd Helton's final game as a Rockie and Dodgers fans gave him a nice ovation. Nice touch fellow Dodgers fans.

It was also announced that the injury prone, at least this season, Matt Kemp will be shut down for the rest of the season. He'll miss the entire postseason "because of swelling in a bone of his broken ankle". (Thanks to espn.com.) I have to admit that this doesn't surprise me a whole lot, in fact I wouldn't be surprised to see another Dodger miss the rest of the season as well. The Dodgers seemed to have been very fragile this season.

People who have stumbled across this blog before know that I cheer for 7 MLB teams. My favorite team is and always will be the LA Dodgers. But over the years I added the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles and the Oakland A's.

The problem with having multiple teams is that sometimes they play each other and even worse they sometimes play each other in the playoffs. That's what's happening starting Thursday night. LA and Atlanta will open the best-of-5 NLDS Thursday night in Atlanta. The scheduled pitching matchup is Clayton Kershaw, who could win the NL Cy Young award this year. The Braves will be sending Kris Medlen to the mound, he also has had a good year.

Both St. Louis and Atlanta won on Sunday, which meant St. Louis finished with the best record in the NL. That means they'll play the winner of the Pittsburgh-Cincinnati Wild Card game in the other NLDS. That one game Wild Card game occurs Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. You can believe PNC Park will be rocking.

The Red Sox finished 97-65 and will host all series up to and including the World Series in the 2013 MLB playoffs.

On Sunday if Cleveland won, they were guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. They did win, closing out the season on a 10 win streak. That's very impressive. Congrats to Terry Francona and the Cleveland Indians. The Indians will play the winner of Monday's Texas-Tampa Bay tie breaking game, that game is scheduled to be played tonight about 8:07 EST.

The one game AL Wild Card game will be at an unannounced time, we do know it will be in Cleveland. Let the "Major League" and Bob Uecker jokes begin.

On to my teams that didn't make the playoffs, the Cubs finished the season with a dismal 66-96 record. They finished last place in the NL Central and 31 games behind the Cardinals.

Meanwhile the Orioles started out the season strong, but couldn't maintain that strong pace. They finish the season 85-77 and tied with the Yankees for third place in the AL East. Both teams finish 12 games behind the first place Red Sox. Orioles slugger Chris Davis had a good individual season. He finished the season with the most homers (53) and RBIs (138) in all of MLB.
