Dodgers Daily, October 11th, 2013 Part 2: Cardinals Grab Game 1 of NLCS

Hello,

As a Dodgers fan, Game 1 of the NLCS was very disappointing. This game was notable for being the longest NLCS game 1. The Dodgers had plenty of chances to score runs, they squandered all of them but one. Just like in Game 4 of the Dodgers NLDS, it was Juan Uribe that got the big hit. His single in the third inning drove in what would be the only two runs for the Dodgers in Game 1.

Yasiel Puig had multiple chances to get the big hit, but ended up with no hits. He struck out twice and Cardinals pitchers made him look foolish at times. Of course he wasn't the only Dodger batter that struggled, LA only had 9 hits in 13 innings. The Dodgers failed many times when they could have had more runs.

This loss definitely can't be pinned on Zack Greinke, he pitched a very effective 8 innings. He only allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. Greinke kept Cardinals batters off balance all night and ended with 10 strikeouts. Like the TBS commentators noted, Greinke was sharp Friday night. Also the big hit that he gave up, Carlos Beltran's double in the third inning, would of a healthy Matt Kemp caught that ball?

Game 2 of the NLCS is Saturday afternoon. The scheduled pitching matchup will be Clayton Kershaw (regular season stats: 16-9, 1.83 ERA) vs. Michael Wacha (regular season stats: 4-1, 2.78 ERA). The presumptive NL Cy Young award winner has to have a great game today. If the Cardinals go up 2-0, I don't like the chances of the Dodgers winning 4 of 5 games.
