The Brutally Cruel Reality of the MLB Playoffs

Hello,

In Wednesday's night AL Wild Card game, Tampa Bay went to Cleveland and beat the Indians 4-0. The Rays advance to the ALDS starting Friday while the Indians season is over. Just like that, after 162 games, playing a 6 month season, doing all that traveling and the Indians season is over after only one playoff game.

This game highlights the ruthlessness of the MLB playoffs. The Indians played 162 regular season games.  They won their final 10 games of the season and also won 14 of their last 17 games. All that work, a great late season rally and they clawed their way into the playoffs. After 162 regular season games they were deemed worthy of one measly playoff game. They lost that one game and just like that their season is over. That's my definition of ruthless!

Although the one game wild card is ruthless, that's probably fair. At least both teams have a chance to make a run in the playoffs. However I suggest the 4 League Division Series should all be extended to best-of-7 games. It would only be at the most 2 more playoff games, they could shorten the already over long season to allow for those extra games.

All series in the NBA playoffs are best-of-7 series. Of course their playoffs are way too long. I think that about a month of MLB playoffs would just be about perfect.

Three of my teams play Thursday. The Pirates play the Cardinals in St. Louis and the Dodgers play in Atlanta against the Braves.
