Country Music 2008: Was it really that boring?

Hello,

I was watching the CMT's Top 20 videos and I was wondering if last year in country music was really that bad? I would say "no" because there was some pretty good music last year. We had good new music from Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Sugarland. The 2008 CMT Top 20 Video Countdown would have you think other wise. Here's the Top 20! My comments are in parenthesis.

20) "You Look Good In My Shirt" Keith Urban. (Yawn!)

19) "Home"- Blake Shelton (This song is probably the most boring song of the year.)

18) "Good Time"- Alan Jackson (Alan I love you but this song sucks. The video for this song is equally sucky. Alan stop trying to catch the "Chattahoochee" vibe. That was a once in a lifetime song.)

17) "International Harvester"- Craig Morgan (Four terrible songs in a row.)

16) "Don't Think I Don't Think About It"- Darius Rucker (Finally the first good song on this countdown. Although this song could use another verse and less chorus. Also why is the singer black but the actors acting out the songs lyrics white?)

15) "Everyone Wants To Go To Heaven"- Kenny Chesney (Please don't let David Archuleta know about this song, this sounds like a song he would want to sing.) How is Chesney such a big star, he hasn't had a good song in about 5 years.)

14) "Every Day"- Rascal Flatts (I can't remember what this song sounds like, that should tell you all you need to know.)

13) "Ready, Set, Don't Go"- Billy Ray Cyrus (Billy Ray Cyrus, does anything else need to be said?)

12) "Love Story"- Taylor Swift (She is one of my current favorite singers, but this song is only okay.)

11) "All-American Girl"- Carrie Underwood (A chart first- two at least okay songs in a row. This is a pretty good song and I like the video as well. Carrie Underwood is the hottest woman in country music right now without a doubt.)

10) "Troubadour"- George Strait (Yawn! Is it my imagination or does Alan Jackson and George Strait have to sing the same kind of song every song? Has George Strait had a good song in the last 10 years?)

9) "All Summer Long"- Kid Pebble (as someone from Motley Crue called him. This is just the continuing dumbing down of country music by non-talented singers. Lynyyrd Skynrrd wherever you are I apologize for all of America for the affront to your classic song. One of the most atrocious rip offs of all-time.)

8) "Letter To Me"- Brad Paisley (A great song and a great video. Brad Paisley is everything Kenny Chesney wants to be but won't be. Brad Paisley a great song writer, a great guitarist and he also has a very good sense of humor.)

7) "Small Town Southern Man"- Alan Jackson (See songs 10 and 18.)

6) "Just Got Started Loving You"- James Otto (A great, great song. I just find it unbelievable someone that ugly with wind up with the hotty in the video. Although I have heard that the model is his wife.)

5) "Picture To Burn"- Taylor Swift (Definitely one of the best songs of the year in all of music. I also absolutely love the video.)

4) "You're Gonna Miss This"- Trace Adkins (One of the classiest singers in country music. I was blown away by how cool he is when he was on "Celebrity Apprentice". Also the singer of one of the best songs of all-time: "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk".)

3) "Shiftwork"- Kenny Chesney (A stupid pun and a stupid song. Kenny it is about time for you to go away.)

2) "All I Want To Do"- Sugarland (A pretty good song, although the video is nonsensical. However this is a band that consistently puts out good music.)

1) "Just A Dream"- Carrie Underwood (A great and poignant song and video. Carrie Underwood is not only gorgeous, but she is the class of country music right now.

So by my count on the Top 20 countdown, there are 9 good songs. Also CMT seemingly has gone to a steady diet of Taylor Swift ant Sugarland videos. Both are great artists but please don't overdo it. Go to cmt.com to see the videos and get all the gory details. The person doing the countdown is also unbelievably obnoxious.

People who need to go away: Kenny Chesney. About the first 15 songs of his career were fantastic, now he is lucky to have a good song every two or three years. To see him in concert is a study in narcissism. Entertainer of the Year? Please!

Video of the day: "Enjoy the Silence"- Depeche Mode. This is one of the most surreal videos ever.

Finally Rascal Flatts is touring with Jessica Simpson. Huh? Jessica Simpson you need to tour with someone equally lame and boring. I got it go on tour with Kenny Chesney, call it the overhyped tour.

Remember about 10:00am tomorrow we will have a new President. Good luck to President Obama. I hope you can live up to half of your potential. If you do that much, you will be one of the greatest Presidents of all-time. American let's get behind our new President and other political leaders. No more partisan politics. Let's work together as Republicans and Democrats! Let's work together as Red Staters and Blue Staters! Let's work together as Americans!

Happy Inauguration day! themusicaddict
