(Started January 1st, 2021) The Best Rock Songs of 1999, Part 1: Songs 1-17

Hello,

Prince sang about 1999 as the end of the world, "we're going to party like 1999". He could've been singing about the rock scene that year and what a colossal wasteland it was. 1999 was not rock's finest year. Even at the height of the Disco craze in 1979, rock had a better year. To put it mildly 1999 sucked for rock music. Prince's "1999" rocked more than many of the rock songs of 1999.

If it wasn't for Creed (I know a lot of people didn't like them, but they were one of the rockingest bands of that year), Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots (not their best CD, but still), Live, Incubus, Blink-182 and Rage Against The Machine 1999 might have been the wussiest year ever. It still might be. How did I survive that year in rock? Obviously by listening to all the great music from previous years.

I've never been so disappointed with a rock year before. I hope 2009 is better when I get to that year.

1) Citizen King "Better Days (And The Bottom Drops Out)":

2) Goo Goo Dolls "Iris":

This comes from a CD that was released in 1996, this song was released late in 1998. It then ranked #49 on Billboard's Year End chart of 1999. 3) Matchbox 20 "Back 2 Good":

4) Third Eye Blind "Jumper":

Even the 1999 song released by Pearl Jam was a pretty mellow and sad song. 5) Pearl Jam "Last Kiss":

Not a big Kravitz fan, but I do love this song. 6) Lenny Kravitz "Fly Away":

7) Santana featuring Rob Thomas "Smooth":

8) Blink-182 "What's My Age Again":

9) Blondie "Maria":

10) Everlast "Ends":

11) Foo Fighters "Learn To Fly":

12) Bruce Springsteen "Trouble River":

13) Incubus "Stellar":

14) Live "Dolphin's Cry":

15) Nine Inch Nails "Into The Void":

16) Rage Against The Machine "Testify":

17) Tom Petty "Free Girl Now":

(Started December 28th, 2020) The Best Rock Songs of 1989, Part 2: Songs 18-34

Hello,

For the rest of these songs I did some deep digging. Not only is rock a form of music, but it's also an attitude. I've included some songs that aren't necessarily rock music, but have rock attitude.

18) Billy Joel "We Didn't Start The Fire":

19) Camper Van Beethoven "Pictures of Matchstick Man":

20) Warrant "Heaven":

21) Poison "Every Rose Has It's Thorn":

22) Bon Jovi "Born To Be My Baby":

23) Bonnie Raitt "Thing Called Love":

I'm not saying all of these songs are great and indeed some of these songs are just dumb. But rock music doesn't need brilliant lyrics to actually rock. 25) Dangerous Toys "Teas'n Pleas'n":

26) Danger Danger "Naughty Naughty":

27) Eurythmics "Don't Ask Me Why":

28) Aerosmith "Janie's Got A Gun":

Hello,

I updated some of the video links that had ended and finished this blog again on May 25th, 2022.

1) The Knack "My Sharona":

2) The Doobie Brothers "What A Fool Believes":

A couple of songs that are very much Disco songs, but they also rock!! Are these next two songs rock songs, disco songs or a combination of those two genres? Who cares both of these songs rock and kick butt.

(Started December 17, 2020) The Top 106 Greatest 80s Era Musicians #13 AC/DC, Part 1

Hello,

A few years ago I started a series of blogs where I was counting down the greatest 80s Era musicians of all-time. By 80s era I mean from 1977 to 1993. I started out with 106 bands and have thought of 29 more bands. This morning on my walk I decided to finally finish this series of blogs. I'm going to post blogs for the Top 13 80s Era musicians and then go back and rank all 135 bands being considered for this series of blogs. Well at least that's the plan now.

First up the best band from Australia, AC/DC. These are their best songs from 1977-1993. Enjoy!! These songs are in no particular order, other I didn't want to lump all the songs from the same albums together.

1) "Go Down":

AC/DC is one of the greatest bands of all-time. Too bad the movie made with their music "Maximum Overdrive" could be the worst piece of crap ever made. How do things get so bad when both Stephen King and AC/DC are attached? 2) "D.T.":

3) "Let There Be Rock":

4) "Dog Eat Dog":

5) "Sin City":

You gotta have the live version for the bells!! 6) "Hells Bells":

7) "Gimme A Bullet":

8) "For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)":

9) "Rising Power":

10) "Rock and Roll Damnation":

11) "Shake Your Foundations":

12) "This House Is On Fire":

AC/DC has never been accused of being the most subtle band. 13) "Sink The Pink":

14) "Bad Boy Boogie":
15) "Next To The Moon":

I walk a lonely road

The only one that I have ever known

Don't know where it goes

But it's home to me, and I walk alone

I walk this empty street

On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Where the city sleeps

And I'm the only one, and I walk alone

I walk alone, I walk alone

I walk alone, I walk a-
