Hello,
First I'm starting out this blog with one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest live bands ever. I particularly like Jimmy Page's guitar work in this video. This is Led Zeppelin at the peak of their formidable powers. Seriously how can anyone argue that Led Zeppelin isn't the greatest band of all-time? This is the mighty Zeppelin with their hammer of the gods kicking butt with "Stairway To Heaven".
Before we get to the less exciting NBA, I want to give a shout out to the BYU Cougars Men's Basketball team. In a hard fought game Saturday, BYU beat SDSU 80-67. This journey that the Cougars have taken their fans on has been amazing and extremely fun. This is the most relevant BYU basketball has been since the Danny Ainge era. I love the scrappy toughness of this Cougar team. I love that other players beside Jimmer Fredette are stepping to the front. It seems Charles Abouo almost came out of nowhere to score 18 points on Saturday. I also enjoy the athletic toughness of Brandon Davies and the serenity and clutch three point shooting of Jackson Emery. I love the unheralded play of Noah Hartsock and all the other players whose hard work keeps this team running.
BYU has soared to #3 in the nation in the ESPN rankings released this morning. This has been an amazing ride, but I'm so nervous about the NCAA tournament. I know there are going to be a lot of haters saying BYU doesn't deserve whatever ranking it gets. I know there will be no respect for the MWC. That's in spite of BYU and SDSU being legitimate Top Ten teams and UNLV (22-7), Colorado State (18-10 and New Mexico (18-11) being solid teams. What I'm most nervous about is BYU flaming out early in the tourney and all the naysayers saying "I told you so".
What I'm hoping for is that BYU gets a #2 or #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Also I will very happy if BYU makes the Sweet Sixteen, anything beyond that is gravy. The BYU-SDSU game got me nervous and that was a regular season game. I'm going to be wound tighter during the MWC Tourney and then the NCAA Tourney. Then if great things happen for BYU, and they have a chance to go to the Final Four, I'm going to be out of my mind. In an Elite 8 game several years ago, 1981, BYU was playing Virginia and Ralph Sampson. I remember being nervous about that game before it started. Then it was a hard fought game but BYU had no answer for Ralph Sampson and the Cavaliers won 74-60.
Thanks BYU for the memories, no matter what happens after today. I don't think BYU will win the MWC Tournament, traditionally they under perform there. Although it was heartening that they beat UNLV in Las Vegas earlier this season. Las Vegas is where the NCAA Tourney is played. (That's yet one more reason why I'm glad BYU will no longer be in the MWC.) I also think that if BYU plays SDSU again, that SDSU will win. It's just too hard to beat that good of team three times in one season. I love to watch Kawhi Leonard play as well. It will be interesting to see what kind of pro player he'll be.
Now on to the NBA again, yes again. I was incredulous that this mornings ESPN Sports Center devoted so much time to last night's Knicks-Heat game. Usually ESPN show a few highlights from each game, but they showed several highlights from this game. I watched a bit of the game last night. My thoughts: although last nights stats don't show it, Dwayne Wade is the man. He's been one of my favorite players to watch. Also the game was another typically boring Eastern Conference game. Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudamire do have some skills, but really is anyone frightened of them? What two man combination would you rather have Anthony/ Stoudamire or Wade/James? If you say Anthony/Stoudamire please! That's a duo that's doomed to fail. Did you know that Amare was short for A Marshmallow Piece? Also why did ESPN have to keep on showing Spike Lee? When was the last time he's done anything relevant? Isn't about time for him to go away? Other than a brief mention in a song from "Rent" I haven't thought of him in years.
Right now New York is 6th place in the NBA Eastern Conference standings. If the playoffs were to start today, they'd play Chicago in the first round. Even with Carmelo in New York, Chicago would have to be the favorite in that series. New York still has 29 games left in their season and I know a lot can change between now and then. But the Knicks are inconsistent at the least. They lose to the Cavaliers on the road, but beat the Heat in Miami?
Also it's about time to give Kevin Love some more love. I remember seeing him play a bit in his only season to UCLA. I was amazed by all those sweet long passes he made after grabbing a rebound, they usually led to an easy Bruins basket. I thought he would be a decent journeyman at best in the NBA. I have to admit how wrong I was, Love is amazing. He's an awesome rebounder and also scores a lot of points. Last night he had another amazing game, 37 points and 23 rebounds. He averages 20.8 points and 15.4 rebounds this season. He's now at 46 consecutive double doubles, only 5 games behind the great Moses Malone's 51 game streak. I loved watching Malone play, a true warrior of a earlier and lost era.
Speaking of a warrior, this is Dido's "Hunter". I love this song and it was one of the songs that helped me through my divorce. I love the lyrics of this song, just a great song. This is also one of the all-time great debut CDs ever. Unfortunately she hasn't lived up to her potential since then.
Here are the lyrics:
With one light on
In one room
I know you're up
When I get home
With one small step
Upon the stair
I know your look
When I get there
If you were a king
Up there on your throne
Would you be wise enough to let me go
For this queen you think you own
Wants to be a hunter again
I want to see the world alone again
To take a chance on life again
So let me go...
The unread book
And painful look
The TV's on
The sound is down
With one long pause
Then you begin
Oh look what
The cat's brought in
If you were a king
Up there on your throne
Would you be wise enough to let me go
For this queen you think you own
Wants to be a hunter again
I want to see the world alone again
To take a chance on life again
So let me go
Let me leave
For the crown you've placed upon my head
Feels too heavy now
And I don't know what to say to you
But I'll smile anyhow
And all the time I'm thinking
Thinking...
I want to be a hunter again
I want to see the world alone again
To take a chance on life again
So let me go
This song has one of my favorite beginnings and I look forward to meeting a woman that reminds me of this song:

Chris Bosh is the man (not!)
Hello,
A couple of days ago I wrote about the 4 players in the NBA I disliked the most. They are the most annoying and over rated players. Those 4 players were the thuggish Ron Artest, the injury prone and defensive liability Carlos Boozer, the hold the Nuggets hostage for several months Carmelo Anthony and the uninspiring Chris Bosh.
I had to laugh this morning when I saw that the Bulls played the Heat last night, two of the NBA's most over rated players going head to head. Chris Bosh was on fire, he missed 17 of 18 shots. Let me repeat that, he missed 17 of 18 shots. In other words, he made one more basket than I did. Yeah, I know players have bad games, but this was an epically bad game. Also on one play he was defending Carlos Loozer, Loozer swung his elbows. From the replays it doesn't appear that Loozer hit Bosh, but Bosh flopped completely. I know that Bosh is a softie, but even by his standards that was wimpy. To quote Charles Barkley "That's turrible". Chris Bosh- where magic happens. I still don't get how he was so hyped up before joining the Heat. What happens to the Heat if James or Wade gets a season ending injury and Bosh has to be your #2 player? Whatever it is it won't be good.
Deron Williams, who hasn't even played a game with New Jersey yet, is already talking about the future?
This is from espn.com, Williams is speaking: "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about a team that was 17-40," he said.
But conversations with King after the trade quelled his (Williams) fear. He said King talked to him about "the direction that he wanted to go in and the players that he's looking forward to going after."
Williams was so convinced by King that he talked about the possibility of the Nets making the playoffs. Entering play Thursday night, New Jersey was in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, nine-and-a-half games behind eighth-place Indiana." (Thanks to espn.com)
I loved these quotes, Williams is talking himself into the Nets making the playoffs. Deron I never realized how funny you were. The Nets have won less than 1/3rd of their games and they have a chance of making the playoffs? Really? After playing on the road against San Antonio, Houston and at home against the Suns, I predict the Nets will be 17-43.
The Jazz play their second game without Deron Williams tonight, it will be the first game for Devin Harris and Derrick Favors with the Jazz. Currently the Jazz are in 9th place in the Western Conference, right where I want them. If you don't have a chance to win the NBA Title, then why would you even want to be in the playoffs. If the Jazz rally and move into 7th or 8th place, what would happen. They would get destroyed by the Spurs, Lakers or Thunder and would be swept out of the first round of the playoff. (Same thing New Jersey, would you really want to be swept out of the playoffs by Orlando, Miami or Boston?) How would that help anyone? Many of these players probably won't be with the Jazz next year. It would be great if the Jazz could dump both the injury prone Andrei Kirilenko and Mehmet Okur.
For someone that isn't that excited about the NBA, I sure have been writing about it a lot lately. I'm sure things will go back to normal quickly and my interest will be captured by other things. March Madness is just around the corner and MLB Spring Training is in full swing. Two sports that are vastly more entertaining than the NBA. Besides hockey I think the NBA may be my least favorite sporting event. Everything about it smacks of the worst of corporate America, from David Stern on down.
Yesterday was my daughter's birthday, she's now 10. Her review of Justin Bieber's haircut, she doesn't like it.
Under appreciated songs of the day:
This song is "Ship of Fools" by Sarah Brightman. She has many better songs than this, but I just love to hear her voice. I love big, powerful voices and she has one of the best. Sorry about the lame videos from "E.R." where Kerry was going through her lesbian phase. "E.R." the show that jumped the shark after George Clooney left and then struggled on for too many more years. The same fate that "American Idol" is going through now. So don't pay attention to the pictures, just listen to that amazing voice:
This is "The Phantom of the Opera" title track. What am amazing song, highlighted by Brightman's amazing voice. The dude in this video isn't quite as good as Michael Crawford. I love this amazing note that Brightman holds starting at about the 3:34 mark.
This is Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford from the 1988 Tonys:
And if you haven't heard this song, here it is. This is Adele's amazing "Rolling In The Deep".
If it sounds familiar it was featured in "I Am Number 4". I also want to give a shout out to Entertainment Weekly magazine, they were saying to download this song 3 months ago!
"Rolling" is the first song on her new CD "21". "Rumor Has It" is the second song on that same CD. I couldn't find the actual version, this is a remix version of "Rumor". But then I realized the remix version absolutely sucks. This youtube.com clip is actually a preview of all the songs from "21". "Rumor Has It" is the second song on this clip:

Goodbye Deron Williams
Hello,
A few weeks ago I was whining and moaning that the Jazz need a major shakeup. In a surprising string of developments the Jazz have done that. Jerry Sloan got sick of his situation and abruptly retired. Now news comes today that Deron Williams has been traded to the New Jersey Nets. Wow, that's a shocking development. It's especially shocking with the ultra conservative Miller family in charge of the Jazz. That's not a complaint, that's just the way it is. I can't decide if the Jazz did this to irritate Williams or not. Going to the Nets isn't exactly a big step up. The Nets are still only going to be a mediocre team at best, but so will the Jazz in all likelihood.
It will be interesting to see how this affects the Jazz. They gave up their all-world point guard, a player many consider one of the best point guards in the NBA. What do they get in return? A quality point guard in Devin Harris and last season's #3 overall draft pick. That's Derrick Favors, the Jazz also get some draft picks. The Golden State Warriors are also involved in some way, but everything is not clear yet. From what I've read so far, it's unclear what the Warriors get out of this deal.
I hate to say it I've been losing interest in the Jazz and the NBA the last few years. Although it will be fun to watch the Knicks implode with two big egos on their team, just please don't make me watch any of their games. I wrote about this yesterday. I remember I use to plan my days around Jazz games and I very excitedly would go see them play. Now I sort of follow them, but a lot of time I forget they are even playing games. Sometimes if I'm flipping channels and the Jazz are on, I stop and watch them play for a few minutes. But no longer can that hold my attention for too long. Although I may watch some of the Jazz-Mavs game tonight. Pro basketball is nowhere as exciting as college basketball.
Also I think the money is growing so much that it wouldn't surprise me if the Jazz aren't in Utah anymore in 5 or 10 years. If the Jazz do leave Utah, that will lessen my already minimal interest in the NBA. I'd probably start cheering for Oklahoma City at that point. Now they are a good young team with a likable superstar in Kevin Durrant. He chose to resign with Oklahoma City rather than try to join a powerhouse team. He also flies under the radar and there's not a lot of hype associated with him. He's just a good solid young player, he'll probably be an all-star for many years to come.
I'm looking forward to BYU playing SDSU on Saturday at noon MST. That should be a great game. It will be a hostile environment for the Cougs. Although how hostile can someone be that lives in San Diego? Jimmer Fredette averages more points on the road than at home. Although his scoring has been going down as teams figure out how to defend him. The general strategy is let the other BYU players beat you. That's why the Cougars need to expand where they get the points from.

Do You Remember When The NBA Was Worthwhile? Under appreciated songs of the day
Hello,
With it being President's Day weekend, which for me was a 4 day weekend, I was able to spend a lot of time with all 4 of my kids. Although it wasn't my weekend, thanks to my ex-wife for letting me have more time with them. She actually asked if I could watch them Friday and I said "yes". One thing led to another and I ended up able to spend a lot of time with them. We were able to go out and eat, watch movies and hang out. I love my kids a lot but I forget how tiring they can be. That's why I have such a high level of respect for single mothers.
I went and saw two movies with my kids. By the way if you want to go see a movie and are choosing between "Unknown" and "I Am Number Four", go with "I Am Number Four". It's a much better movie. The story is better and there's a tremendous amount of action in it. Not only that but the action actually fits in with the story. My biggest complaint about "I Am Number 4" is it felt a lot longer than its 110 minutes running time. "Unknown", although it stars the gorgeous January Jones, is sort of lame. Liam Neeson is fantastic in the movie though.
The amazingly gorgeous January Jones:
Not only is "I Am Number Four" the better movie overall, it also has some great music in it. In fact, today's under appreciated song of the day is from that movie. This is Adele's "Rolling In The Deep", what a great song.
If you've heard Adele before it was probably this amazing song:
Also I would like to personally thank the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves for finally getting Carmelo Anthony traded. What an unnecessarily long drawn out process that was. That story grew boring about it's second day. After that I just didn't care what happened with Brett Favre, uh I mean Carmelo Anthony. I'm glad that nightmare is over, Anthony has held ESPN and other sports outlets hostage for too long.
Honestly I've never been a big Carmelo Anthony fan, I think he's vastly over rated. I look at that Knicks team now. They have Amare Stoudamire and Anthony, is that not immediately the softest team in the NBA? Will they make the second round of the playoffs? Doubtful. Will they make anyone forget Willis Reed? Doubtful. I still think the Knicks are at least a player and a lot of toughness away from competing for the NBA title.
As this whole thing has been going on Anthony has made my list of the 4 most annoying, over rated NBA players. I don't think these 4 are quite deserving to be called stars. I've already mentioned Mr. Softy, Carmelo Anthony. Who are the other 3 players? Here they are in no particular order.
The second player on that list is Ron Artest. I would summarize all the dumb things he has done, but I don't have that much time. I wish the Lakers would trade him for no other reason than there would be a lot less press about him. He needs to be traded to Toronto and fade into obscurity.
The next player is another softy, a man as tough as a marshmallow. Mr. Carlos Boozer, he of the 5 year-$80 million contract. For $16 million a year, shouldn't he at least be invited to the All-Star game? He wasn't. Not only that but he already has missed games two different times for injuries this season.. He's missed 1/3rd of the Bulls games to this point in the season. That actually is pretty good for him. Sarcasm alert: he really must be committed to the Bulls this year. Boozer missing so many games is good preparation for the playoffs since Boozer usually disappears in the playoffs anyway.
Last and possibly least on this list, the alleged great Heat free agent acquisition. Speaking of over rated, Chris Bosh. He's one of the people who has benefited a lot from hype. He recently returned to Toronto and he acted like he was the man, which was hilarious. Not only do the Raptors suck, but Bosh isn't much better. The Heat should beat Toronto 99 of 100 times, with or without Bosh playing. If the Heat were a bike, Chris Bosh would be the training wheels. If the Heat were a girl, he would be the training bra. I'm not sure why there was so much love for him this last off season. I was perfectly happy that my team, the Jazz, didn't pursue him. I didn't want the Jazz to have Carlos Boozer 2.0.
I was going to have 5 players on my list, but I could only think of the above 4 players as deserving of so much dislike. Other players I considered were Lebron James, but he's not as vile as the above 4. Also he's a tremendous athlete, I just wish he cared more. Although I thought it was hilarious that he tried to take over the All-Star game and win it for the Eastern Conference. Seriously taking over the All-Star game. That's like trying to take over a marble tournament. Nobody cares about that game Lebron. I also thought of Kobe Bryant. He may be a wienie but no one can argue with how many titles he has won. Of the above vile 4, only Ron Artest has won a title. But let's be honest, I could have won a title if I was on the Lakers last year.
Of course I might change my opinion when the playoffs start and Bryant gets every call. It's not like the good old days where the dirty boys Pistons teams had 12 players alone that were deserving of disdain. Of course the NBA was much better back then. The rivalries were more intense, the players gave a damn and the lameness of David Stern hadn't trickled down as much. The NBA is sort of lame now, it seems to be more about the players than the teams. Also with most things these days, the NBA seems to have been corrupted corporate America group thinking. I just have very little interest in the NBA now, if there wasn't a local NBA team I don't even know if I'd be following the NBA. I didn't even watch a second of the who gives a damn NBA All Star Game.
However I'm very excited that MLB's spring training has started and even more exciting, March Madness is right around the corner. That's the three most exciting weeks of the sports year. It may even be more exciting for me this year with the BYU Cougars setting up to hopefully have a good run. I'd be thrilled if they could make the Sweet 16. That would be so cool if they could survive to the second weekend. I love the Cougars but I don't think they have a chance of winning the title.

Quick reviews:
Hello,
Here are some quick reviews of CD's I've listened to recently.
1) Duffy's "Endlessly": It's not as bad as the title would indicate. I wasn't a big fan of her debut CD "Rockferry", although it the amazing "Mercy" on it. But if I hear enough positive things about something I'll check it out. "Endlessly" is okay, it doesn't have an amazing song to bolster it like "Rockferry" did. Rating: C
2) Taio Cruz's "Rokstarr" is bolstered by the amazing "Dynamite". The following song "Break Your Heart" is also a good song. However it quickly devolves into generic R&B. Grade: C
3) My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade". I'll admit I have a bias towards rock music. This isn't only rock music, but it's good rock music as well. This CD that's about cancer is anchored by the amazing song "Dead". Grade B+
Due to my shifting tastes all ratings may be changed someday on the above CD's.
Go BYU and Jimmer Fredette.
Have a good day, themusicaddict

Under appreciated song of the day!
Hello,
From possibly the greatest debut CD ever, this is on Guns N' Roses "Appetite for Destruction". This is only about the 9th or 10th best song on this CD and it's still an amazing song. If you don't have "Appetite for Destruction" you need to go out and buy it.
This is "Nightrain":
This is probably my favorite song from the CD:
This is a version from 2009:
From 1992 with the original, and only true, lineup of Guns N' Roses:

Do not read John Grisham's "The Confession", Under appreciated song of the day: Romeo theme
Hello,
I love book clubs because many times they cause me to stretch my boundaries. Many times I've read books that I would have never picked up if it wasn't in a book club. Due to crazy things and the constant change of life, I haven't attended a book club in a few years. Tonight I'm going back to a book club.
Unfortunately the book chosen for tonight's book club is John Grisham's "The Confession". I've always kind have been neutral on John Grisham. I loved his first book "The Firm". However his latest book sucks- there's no other way to put it. This book is about the death penalty in general and how it's working in Texas specifically.
The characters are so simplistic. The minister, Keith Schroeder, is just a good, good guy. The bad guy, Travis Boyette, is a really bad guy. They are stock characters, they stick to what their characters should be like. Schroeder is all good, the only way Grisham could have made it more obvious is to put a halo above. On the other hand Boyette is bad, bad, bad and without a redeeming characteristic. He lies, he cheats, he rapes, he steals and just about anything else bad that he can do. These characters are all or nothing, there's no ambiguity with them.
Nine years ago Travis Boyette killed cheerleader Nicole Yarber. He was never charged with the crime, in fact he was never even a suspect. Due to false testimony by a dishonest person the almost saintly Donte Drumm was arrested for Yarber's death. Now 9 years later Drumm's execution date in Texas is coming quickly and Boyette arrives in Topeka, Kansas. That's where minister Schroeder is and Boyette wants to unload his feelings of guilt to him. He claims to be close to death and is trying to clear his conscience. Even when he seemingly is being slightly noble, he's doing it more for attention and money than true feeling.
According to Grisham's book Texas is full of legislators that love the death penalty. They'll do everything in their power to ensure that death row inmates are killed quickly. They close their doors at 5:00pm to ensure no last minute appeals, they ignore evidence, they coerce confessions out of suspects. Are you getting how simplistic and one sided this book is? Again the bad guys are really bad. Not only that but they are short-sighted and incompetent
Grisham is on the Board of Directors for the Innocence Project in New York. They are an organization against the death penalty. The Innocence Project also recently received a mention on "The Good Wife". It seems Grisham is virulently opposed to the death penalty. This book is his platform to condemn and eventually get rid of it completely. Too bad this is such a terrible book, he won't convince anyone to agree with him with this book.
His bias shows clearly in this book though. This is one of the most one sided, biased pieces of fiction I've ever read. I don't have an opinion one way or another about the death penalty. I can see both sides and agree with points from both sides. Grisham's book did nothing to change my mind, although it's clear he wants this book to convince people to end the death penalty. Even in the corrupt and blood thirsty state of Texas.
If you are looking for an intelligent discussion about the death penalty, you need to look somewhere else. I just can't believe how bad this book truly is.
This is the song my iPod chose for me randomly this morning when I started my workout. This is one of Billy Idol's better songs although relatively people are familiar with it:
As I was searching youtube.com I realized there have been a few great songs that mention Romeo. Here's a couple of other Romeo classics. This is Dire Straits "Romeo and Juliet", this is an unintentionally funny video.
The following performance shows why white boys shouldn't dance, actually shouldn't attempt to dance. However this is a great song. Steve Forbert's "Romeo's Tune":

Under appreciated songs of the day, Justin Bieber
Hello,
The following song is one of the greatest ballads to never get wide exposure. This is simply an amazing song:
Almost any song from the Smiths is a classic, this is one of the best:
Then one of my all-time favorite songs:
The proof continues to pile up that Justin Bieber is taking over the world. He didn't win the Grammy's Best New Artist, but he was nominated. His movie wasn't the #1 movie over this past weekend, but "Never Say Never" did finish second. It still made $34 million dollars, that's a lot of babysitting money. Also Target is selling the tie-in CD to that movie. Not only is it exclusive to Target, specifically it's exclusive to target.com. A Justin Bieber song was sung on "Glee" last night. Now the final piece of the world take over: apparently Bieber is the new cover for Rolling Stone. Bieber isn't the worst musician ever, but his cover appearance marks another signpost along the way that Rolling Stone continues moving toward irrelevance. (That is if they aren't already there.)

I Heard The People Sing... and it was amazing! "Les Miserables" shines at Woods Cross High!
Hello,
My friend and I went and saw "Les Miserables School Edition" at Woods Cross High last night. To put it simply it was amazing. I searched the internet but couldn't find the names of the actors who did such an amazing job. However the actor who portrayed Jean Valjean has a very good voice and did a great job. All the main actors and actresses did a good job. I also enjoyed the lad who portrayed Gavroche. All the hard work put into this performance was apparent last night. "Les Mis" isn't the easiest play to perform. The songs aren't easy to sing, there's also dance steps that need to be learned. There are constant costume changes and many "Les Mis" actors play multiple roles. Again Woods Cross High did a fantastic job.
If last night's show wasn't the finale, I would highly recommend that you go see it. If it had run longer, I would go see it again. Great theatre is one of the best entertainments going. The tickets were only $8 each. The thrill of being in the midst of live entertainment is enthralling. Even when there are mistakes, they usually enhance the performance.
There were some glitches, some missed cues and lighting issues. Also the play started 20 minutes late, but that worked for me as we were running late. But those minor issues were small and didn't detract from the impassioned performance delivered by the students of Woods Cross High. Last night's performance was one of those moments that I was extremely proud to be alumni.
I love "Les Mis" and I've never understood why everyone doesn't love this play. What's not to like, an amazing story, amazing music and an amazing experience. If you've never seen it, you definitely need to go.

The Grammys (yawn), Under appreciated songs of the day, Happy Single Awareness Day
Hello,
The Grammy's were on last night, as I was watching TV I flipped over to them. The female announcer was mentioning the upcoming performances. She mentioned the names Eminem, Avett Brothers, Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger. Those names produced 0% interest in me. Eminem, vastly overrated and he has become so tired. The Avett Brothers, who? Bob Dylan, the man who has been living on reputation since the 1960s. I know he has a legendary reputation, but I've never been a big fan. I highly doubt you could find many people that could name 10 of his songs. I know I couldn't. Also Mick Jagger, why is he on the Grammys? Unlike Bob Dylan, they have a lot of amazing, iconic songs. But for a show honoring the best of now, why is Mick Jagger invited?
I've been watching a few clips of last night's Grammys on youtube.com, where would we be without youtube.com? From what I can tell these were the two best performances of last night. The first being Bruno Mars:
What does it say about the Grammys that one of the best performances of the evening features the Muppets? This is Cee Lo and the still ravishing Gwyneth Paltrow singing "Forget You":
Get in the way back machine for one of the under appreciated songs of the day. I really love this Jim Croce song, "Bad Bad Leroy Brown":
I know I have featured this video before but I love this song so much. I'm not sure why this song didn't blow up. This is Kate Nash's "Foundations":
I know the following song needs more love like I need to gain weight. However I LOVE this song. Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now":
This is more of a dance version:
Here's the real version of this incredible song. This song has got to be a Top 250 song, it's so amazing. Just from the opening notes this song grabs you by the collar. That's a sign of a great piece of art, it grabs you at the start. It still has the same effect on me the thousandth listen that it had on me the first listen:
This is the first Valentine's Day (us single folks call it Single Awareness Day) that I haven't had someone in my life. This is the first time that has happened for several years. I'm actually okay with that as I continue to recover from the divorce. What that means for you is I'm not going to find a bunch of romantic songs to fill up my blog. When I think of love at this point in my life, songs like "Still" by the Commodores and the above "Foundations" and "Need You Now" come to my mind.
But for those people who've stumbled across this blog and are looking for a nice romantic song. I have one for you. The following song is a Christmas song, but it seems appropriate for Valentine's Day as well. The upcoming song is surprisingly sexy. Enjoy more Lady Antebellum and "Baby It's Cold Outside":
I'm going to the Woods Cross High production of "Les Mis" tonight. I'm not doing it for a Valentine's Day activity, this performance just happened to fall on February 14th. Tonight's performance is the finale of their run and I hope they go out on a good note. The young woman I'm going with, this is her first time seeing "Les Mis". Please make it good for her. I've read good things about Woods Cross performance of this all-time classic.

Justin Bieber, Alexis Grace
Hello,
I went and watched the Justin Bieber movie, "Never Say Never" in 3D. I did this because I love my daughter very much and for no other reason. Was it a terrible movie? No it wasn't, it was about what I expected it to be. The screaming girls in the theatre seemed to quite like it though. I still love my rock 'n' roll but I have to admit that one of his songs is pretty good. It would be a good song to play when I want to be romantic. And because I have all of Justin Bieber's songs on my iTunes for my daughter, I could use it for that purpose. Bieber also does have a nice voice.
This is the song:
Okay let's get back to some rock and roll. Here's today under appreciated song of the day: It was going to be Billy Joel's version of "Honky Tonk Woman", but I couldn't find it. Instead enjoy Alexis Grace's version of "Dirty Diana":

Jerry Sloan, Under appreciated song of the day
Hello,
News reports coming out of Salt Lake City indicate that Jerry Sloan will announce his retirement today at a 5:00pm press conference. That's shocking news as he just barely signed a contract a couple of days ago to coach one more year. This is a job that I think that Sloan could have had as long as he wanted. However it definitely is a time for a change. The Jazz reminded me of Albert Einstein's famous saying of insanity "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".
Apparently everything came to a head last night when Deron Williams called his own play, ignoring Sloan's play. Also the Jazz losing and not looking good doing so probably didn't help either. The players are equally or more guilty, they just haven't been playing with a spark.
After the game Sloan kept the reporters waiting for a half-hour as he met with assistants and Kevin O' Connor, the Jazz's General Manager. Sloan said last night there's no need for panic. There isn't? The Jazz keep on playing their mediocre brand of basketball year after year. They usually win more than they lose but are quickly eliminated from the playoffs. They are the heartbreak kings. It seems every year there's a time where they get my hopes up only to crush them later in the season. I guess if the team is satisfied with this sort of play each season, then there's no need for panic. However if they are wanting to win a title, which is a long shot in the best of circumstances, it's time for a big change. I would prefer two or three great years every 10 years, rather than this monotonous mediocrity every year.
Of course the Jazz have already made some moves to become a better team. They surgically removed the cancer known as Carlos Boozer. He was back in town last night, not really making any Jazz fan long for his services. His first shot was blocked by Paul Milsap, that's just so right. He missed 10 of 16 shots and only scored 14 points. I'm so glad it's the Bulls who are paying him $85 for 5 years. The Jazz did the right thing in letting him go. I believe if he would have remained with the Jazz, things would even be worse with the Jazz. The Jazz then traded for Al Jefferson, which I think has been a good move. I wish the Jazz could have kept Kyle Korver though, they really miss his outside shooting. They also miss him and his scoring on their second unit.
Now am I going to criticize Sloan in this post? No. In fact I'm going to thank Jerry Sloan for all his hard work through the years. Thanks Coach Sloan for taking the Jazz to back to back NBA finals in the 90's. Thanks for all the good memories through the years. If he really does retire, it will be a sad day in some ways. I would also urge the Jazz to retire a uniform in his honor asap. Thanks Coach Sloan.
Apparently Jazz assistant coach, Tyrone Corbin, is going to take over the head coaching position. It will be nice to see someone younger and with different perspectives to coach the team. Will he do better than Coach Sloan, honestly I'm doubtful about that. However he will bring fresh blood to the Jazz and I'm guessing this is essentially a try out to become the full time Jazz coach. This change would also bring some excitement to the Jazz. I'm actually excited for the Jazz's next game they will played. It will be interesting to see how they do against Phoenix.
Now are the Jazz done with their changes? I hope not. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this Jazz team is missing some key ingredient. The Jazz also need to make some kind of player move before the trading deadline in a couple of weeks. The moribund Jazz need to bring some excitement to their team. I can't think of a player or players that will do that. It would have to be someone young that could compliment both Williams and Jefferson.

"Les Mis" at Woods Cross High, Under appreciated song of the day
Hello,
I graduated from Woods Cross High in 1985, a place where I had some good times. However I was mostly glad when I was done there. I haven't gone back a lot since I graduated, however I'm going back Monday night. That's because my alma mater, Woods Cross, is putting on "Les Mis". That might be my favorite musical of all-time. I'm a big fan of "Rent" as well.
I'm looking forward to going and seeing it, I've read one review of their performance so far, and that was a big thumbs up for the performance. "Les Mis", all of us big fans call it that, is worthy of all the press it has received. It's certainly one of the all-time classic entertainment's of all time. Victor Hugo wrote a great novel, I would suggest that you read the whole book. It's one of the great pieces of world literature. Jean Valjean is one of the greatest characters ever. The music, "composed in 1980 by French composer Claude-Michel Schönberg, with a French-language libretto by Alain Boublil" is simply amazing. (Thanks to wikipedia.org.)
This is how the play starts out, simply an amazing beginning "Prologue". My favorite part of the prologue starts about 8:20.
One is then rocketed along for three hours as the story impresses and music overwhelms you. This is almost a perfect play. I've been watching some of the youtube.com videos and listening to the soundtrack this morning and yes my excitement level has gone up. I'm extremely excited to go see this play again, even though I have already seen six or 7 times already.
This doesn't intend to be a full synopsis, just a few words to give the clips some context. Here are some other highlights:
From the very serious to the bawdy, this show has it all. Here's one of the most bawdy parts:
Valjean has been on the lam and has become the mayor of a town. Valjean is a man of great moral rectitude. Javert, the most misguided policeman of all-time, details his 10 year search for Valjean. Javert finds out who the mayor really is in "Runaway Cart":
Like Christina Aguilera's amazing "Star Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl, the following also gives me goosebumps. Another one of the stand out songs: "Do You Hear The People Sing?"
What would a "Les Mis" tribute be without the Thenardier's? This is the song that closes the first half of the show "Master of the House":
Okay one more classic "Les Mis" song in a slightly different context. This is the amazing Lea Michele singing "On My Own":
Under appreciated song of the day:
Do you remember when MTV use to show videos? Yeah either do I, but this is the first video they showed. This is the Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star":
The same channel that has so many great memories for me has now downgraded itself to "Jersey Shore" or whatever that waste of time show is. MTV, we'll always have been you were actually relevant.

The true definition of hero: Salvatore Giunta
Hello,
My thanks to such true heroes as Salvatore Giunta for his unselfish service to his fellow Americans and soldiers. The following is excerpted from vf.com:
"Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta will be awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, an area called the Valley of Death. In October of 2007, during Operation Rock Avalanche, an ambush of at least a dozen Taliban fighters attacked Giunta’s company and left two of his fellow soldiers dead. Had it not been for Giunta, it would have likely been more, if not all, of the platoon. On November 16, Giunta will be the first living soldier since the Vietnam War to receive America’s highest honor, when it is awarded by President Obama at the White House.
Vanity Fair contributing photographer Tim Hetherington spotlights Giunta in the December issue. While on assignment with contributing editor Sebastian Junger—who wrote a book about Giunta and his platoon, War— Hetherington was with a platoon near Giunta’s in the Korengal during Operation Rock Avalanche. Hetherington also wrote a book about his time in the Korengal, Infidel, and he and Junger’s documentary Restrepo won the Grand Jury Prize for best documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival."
Thank you Salvatore.
Under appreciated songs of the day. Before I present them I want to tell you how much I love my iPod and why. Again as I was exercising this morning, my iPod played the following two songs in a row. I listen to songs on my iPod on shuffle nearly always. First it played the amazing song "Still" by the Commodores. I really felt the power of this song and was very moved by it. Obviously the song writers have dealt with the loss of love. Enjoy:
Here are the lyrics for the above song, one of the most amazing songs of the 70's. Thanks to the fine folks at: (From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/c/commodores-lyrics/still-lyrics.html) This isn't a good song for a recently divorced person to listen to, very painful. I can't believe this song hit me this hard and "Still's" extended version is even worse.
Lady, morning's just a moment away
And I'm without you once again
You laughed at me
You said you never needed me
I wonder if you need me now
(chorus:)
So many dreams that flew away
So many words we didn't say
Two people lost in a storm
Where did we go?
Where'd we go?
We lost what we both had found
You know we let each other down
But then most of all -
I Do Love You -
Still!
We played the games that people play
We made our mistakes along the way
Somehow I know deep in my heart
You needed me
'Cause I needed you so desperately!
We were too blind to see
But then most of all -
I do love you -
Still!
Then my iPod shuffled me this burst of anger. A much harder edged song but just as amazing as "Still". Good thing after hearing "Still", I had this 3:07 minutes of therapy. It's amazing the power of a song! This is Linkin Park's "Numb":
Here are the lyrics for "Numb":
I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you
Can't you see that you're smothering me
Holding too tightly afraid to lose control
Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
And every second I waste is more than I can take
[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you
And I know
I may end up failing too
But I know
You were just like me with someone disappointed in you
[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you
[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be

Super Bowl Thoughts
Hello,
Regrettably I did watch the Super Bowl yesterday and it was okay. However if you don't have a rooting interest in the game, it's just not the same. I absolutely didn't care who won the game. The only thing I was cheering for was that the game would go into overtime. I was hoping that would add some excitement to what was a pedestrian game. I'm already sick of the Green Bay Packers though. Although I absolutely enjoyed the fact the Packers won the Super Bowl without Brett Favre. That's classic, you gotta love karma!!
My other thought is I think hosting the Super Bowl yesterday might be the closest that the Dallas Cowboys get to the Super Bowl for a long time. I just don't have high hopes with Jerry Jones as owner and Tony Romo as quarterback. Well at least they dumped Wade Phillips finally. Maybe the Cowboys can at least host a playoff game?
I didn't watch either one of these performances live, so thanks to youtube.com that I could watch them this morning. As any reader of my blog knows, I love Lea Michele. She has an absolutely amazing voice. I love her so much, even making jokes about marrying her voice, but I was a little disappointed in her performance yesterday. I know "America The Beautiful" isn't one of those songs you can really show your abilities. Her performance was good, but it's just not a singers song.
I just barely watched Christina Aguilera's "Star Spangled Banner" at youtube.com. I've still got goosebumps! What an amazing voice, did she nail that song or what? That voice and the way she sang that song, oh my goodness. I'm so overwhelmed that words can't even describe what I'm feeling. It was also nice when the crowd erupted when the soldiers in Afghanistan were shown. Wow! Awesome! Amazing! See both performances in one video below:
Now Christina we need you to leave those people that "helped" you with your last CD, honestly it was terrible. We need you to go back to songs like your earlier work. We need more songs in the vein of "Fighter" and "Beautiful". Not copies of those songs but songs that bring the passion and the beauty of those two songs. In fact, today's under appreciated song of the day is "Fighter". This is a thrilling live version. Goose bumps again. You just cannot fake that power or charisma:
Lea Michele's voice I may be asking for a divorce :(
The biggest disappointment for me though was The Black Eyed Peas halftime performance. The Black Eyed Peas aren't in my Top 50 all-time favorite bands, but they are close to it. They are amazing and have produced some great songs. Fergie has an amazing voice and I respect and love the musical genius of Will.i.am. So all those things combined together, along with being live would produce a memorable Super Bowl halftime show, right?
Um, no. While the 12 minute performance had it's good moments, overall it was downright lame. From my reading and talking to other people I'm not the only one that thinks so either. It seems to be nearly universal opinion that the Peas underwhelmed yesterday.
Here's the 9 songs in their set, one they did a reprise on, and my commentary on it.
1) We have the Peas dropping on to stage from the rafters. Cool, but then Will.i.am hits us with his voice. Does he need to rely on that so much? It's not like he's singing, he's just rapping. They start off "I Gotta Feeling" ("Tonight's Going To Be A Good Night") Their set starts out okay, but I'm not overwhelmed. But hey everybody is allowed to have a slow start, right?
2) "Boom Boom Pow", really do we need two songs from the same CD in a row? No.
3) That segued into what at first I thought was a sample of Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine", but no Slash is coming out of the stage. This obviously is Fergie's time to shine. And unfortunately again I was underwhelmed. Although it was good to see Slash playing a Guns N' Roses song. Seriously Axl and Slash you guys need to make up, we need Guns N' Roses more than ever. When pretenders like Nickelback are touring the nation carrying the rock banner, rock music is in serious trouble. End of rant and back to the Peas.
4) "Pump It": That song was okay, again nothing overwhelming.
5) Next up was probably what is their best song, the song that even makes a white boy like me want to get up and dance. If that song doesn't make you want to dance, there's something seriously wrong with you:
So what happens they only perform about 30 seconds of this song, what the hell? Unbelievable.
6) The next song kills what little momentum was started by "Let's Get It Started". Usher also drop down on to the stage, just like the Peas. Why? They should have shot him out of a cannon, but overshot the stage. I just don't get the appeal of Usher. He sang that set killing, soul sucking song "OMG". I just don't understand why he's even there.
7) Okay the momentum is dead now, so why try to revive it seems to be the Peas logic? They then sang "Where Is The Love", a perfectly fine song. It's just not a song that I'd sing in this setting. The underwhelming theme continues.
8) Then of course they had to sing "The Time (Dirty Bit)", which isn't a song that really gets one to want to get up and dance either. Seriously of all the great 80's song they could have remade, why pick that one? How about Cameo's "Word Up", Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" or Michael Jackson's "Smooth Operator"? I'd even like to see them do something with "Ice Ice Baby" or "U Can't Touch This". Really "The Time of my Life"?
9) Since they haven't built any momentum why start now, they closed out with a reprise of "I Gotta Feeling". And with a fizzle their set list ended. Overall extremely disappointing.
Now if I was the Peas, what would I have done? There are several things, completely dump Usher. He should live up to his name and show people to their seats, he shouldn't be the performer. Also dump that lame "The Time (Dirty Bit)" completely from the set. They should have closed out the set with "Let's Get It Started". You've got an amazing singer in Fergie, showcase her more. To do so I would add "Meet Me Halfway" to the set. Another good add would have been, "Don't Phunk With My Heart" their second most danceable song. They are playing the Super Bowl, not a garden party for yellow hair old ladies.
This is my proposed setlist:
1) "Meet Me Halfway", two minutes.
2) "Rock That Body" or "Shut Up" for two minutes.
3) Then Fergie and Slash on "Sweet Child 'O Mine" for two minutes. Up to this point the momentum is a slow build, about to boil over.
4) Let's bring this party to boil with "Don't Phunk With My Heart". 2.5 minutes. Watch this video, see they can play live, sound good and be entertaining.
5) Then lets get everybody in the stadium dancing, even those who don't want to with 3.5 minutes of "Let's Get It Started".
Now my set list I know would never fly in the world of corporate America, as the Peas "need" to play the new single. It doesn't matter that's about the 10th-15th best song of their career, the only thing corporate America cares about is making money. But if they are just going for entertainment and to get everybody's attention, I'm arguing the above set list would do that best.
Black Eyed Peas full Super Bowl performance:

How I want to feel when I fall in love, Under appreciated songs of the day
Hello,
I've tentatively put my toe back into the dating pool again. Getting married for a second time is a lot harder than getting married the first time. It's not just me I need to consider, I have to consider my future wife as well. Not only that but I have to consider my kids, she will probably have kids as well. Also I'm consider my ex-wife as well as I want this arrangement to work out as best as possible for everybody. No I'm nowhere close to getting married or engaged, I'm just dating now. Although the end goal is to get married again in the temple.... eventually. As this blog is public, I will not reveal many specifics about the girls I go out with. Those who need to know will know.
The women I marry I want her to make me feel the same way I do every time I hear the following song. This is truly one of the greatest love songs of all-time.
This song comes from the amazing "Verve Remixed Volume 3". It's a collection of classic songs remixed. Verve also has remixed some other songs to less than spectacular results. However they did a great job on this CD. These are a few of the amazing remixes on that CD:
This is another Sarah Vaughn that has been remixed extremely well:
These are a couple of other great songs from that CD.
Actually this is going to be the CD I listen to on my date today. She seems to love music as much as me, she'll be good. Enjoy!
Can we please get the Super Bowl over with now, I'm so sick of hearing about it.

The Jimmer Fredette show continues on... just barely, Under appreciated songs of the day.
Hello,
I'm going very old school for today's under appreciated songs of the day, all the way back to 1973. This is Tanya Tucker's "What's Your Mama's Name".
Whoever made the following video perhaps is taking the lyrics a bit too literally. Tanya Tucker's hauntingly beautiful and aching "Will You Lay With Me":
Tanya Tucker's "Blood Red and Goin' Down":
Tanya Tucker has a very good voice. She was also the first concert I went to, when I was about 10 years old. I don't remember much about the concert. However I do remember the opening band was Cow Jazz and they had to keep on playing as someone from Tanya Tucker's band was late. I also remember many of the cowboys going up and kissing Tanya Tucker. My parents said they would take me up, but I was too afraid. I wish I would have taken them up on that invitation. Tanya was probably only about 17 or 18 at the time of the concert.
Last night I watched the last few minutes of the BYU-Wyoming game. BYU just had enough to hold on and edge Wyoming. BYU got lucky, if Wyoming knew how to close out a game they could have won that game. Fredette continues to struggle as teams have figured out how to defend him. I think BYU is becoming too much of a one man team and too predictable. BYU should give Fredette more rest during games and also give more shots to Brandon Davies and Jackson Emery. Let them win some games or die trying. A one man team is too easy to defend. If BYU is going to do well in the NCAA Tournament, they can't be a one man team. BYU returns to Provo to play UNLV on Saturday.
It seems that BYU might not be the only Utah team that's having a once in a generation season. The USU Aggies are tearing it up as well. The #21 Aggies are 21-2 overall and 10-0 in the WAC after beating Nevada 67-45 last night. The Aggies have won 16 straight games. Now I think that BYU will have a better run in the NCAA Tournament than the Aggies. However having said that, I think USU is more balanced. If things break right I could see USU reaching the Sweet Sixteen. Stew Morrill has done a great job in Logan, the Aggie basketball team is good every year. He needs to pass some of that magic on that pathetic Aggies football team. Now if they can avoid the first round flame out that has plagued them the last several years.
And the Utes... when this season ends they need to fire Jim Boylen immediately. I'd suggest right now, but nothing would be gained by that. His tenure seems to be marked by almost as many players transferring as wins for his Ute career. Right now the Utes are 10-12 after losing to UNLV 67-54. When you miss 40 of 57 shots though you aren't going to win many games. They play Air Force on Saturday in Salt Lake City, the Utes should win that game. Then after that 3 of their next 4 games are on the road, they'll be playing possibly the three toughest teams in the MWC. They play at San Diego Tuesday and then play at BYU that Saturday. Then on February 19th, they go to play New Mexico in the Pit.
My favorite thing about the Utes is Jim Boylen's quote about the team played hard. Sure that's good, but it seems to me he's trying to obscure how horrible of a job he's done. Jim it's time to go.
Also there's an alleged pro team in Utah, but I'm not going to mention them. They so desperately need to make a radical change before the NBA trading deadline. Something, anything.

Under appreciated songs of the day!, Terrible CD sales and Rolling Stone's latest cover subject
Hello,
This choice might surprise some people. I'll admit this isn't someone I've been very impressed with since his "AI" run. However Ace Young sings this song very well and it's just a great song:
Here's one of the Blues masters: Muddy Waters and his classic "Hoochie Coochie Man":
Here's another Muddy Waters song, just because he's the man. This was the video with the best sound, no comment on the pictures.
The latest #1 record on Billboard's chart set a new record. Since SoundScan technology debuted for Billboard's chart data in 1991, we have a new record breaker. Unfortunately it's not the kind of sales record that anyone wants. It's the lowest selling #1 CD since 1991 and the debut of SoundScan. Amos Lee's "Mission Bell" only sold 40,000 copies in it's first week at #1. Compare that to Taylor Swift's last CD, "Speak Now", which sold 1,047,000 copies in it's first week last fall. January is traditionally a slow month for CD sales. But I don't think that's the only thing to blame for week sales.
We also have major record companies that are completely out of touch with the modern day music buyer. Notice I didn't say CD buyer. Now there's just so many ways to buy music. Also there's so many ways to get music free. I would also say the unfamiliarity by most people with Amos Lee and the other chart toppers doesn't help either. The following list is the artist, CD title and copies sold last week.
No. 1 – Amos Lee, Mission Bell: 40,000
No. 2 – Iron and Wine, Kiss Each Other Clean: 39,000
No. 3 – Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday: 38,000
No. 4 – 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation: 38,000
No. 5 – Bruno Mars, Doo-Wops & Hooligans: 33,000
Now I know that Nicki Minaj and Bruno Mars have been popular, but hasn't that been mostly for working on other people's CDs? Then you have Amos Lee and Iron and Wine, two journeyman troubadours. Can you name a song either sings? Either can I. Then I'm not sure who buys the Grammy Nominees compilations. I usually have all the songs that I want from that CD already. Don't you?
Also after having the lame Lil Wayne on the cover of the last issue of Rolling Stone, they've now gone the other direction. The new cover subject is Elton John. I have no complaints about Elton John, other than when did he release his last relevant music? Lil Wayne was probably pretty young when that happened. But Elton John is one of the all time greats, there's no denying that. Although he isn't on my Top 50 all time artists. Now Rolling Stone if you can get someone that's both good and currently relevant. For instance, James Blunt has a new CD out. How about Lea Michelle, an attractive woman with that amazing voice?

Under appreciated songs of the day, the amazing Whitney Houston, The Top 50 continues
Hello,
I have no idea why the following song wasn't a huge hit, it's a great song. It doesn't even have 8000 plays at youtube.com. This is Kimberly Locke's "You've Changed":
This song certainly isn't under appreciated or unknown, but quite simply a song by one of the greatest vocalists of all-time. This was back when she was at her most gorgeous then the drugs ruined her life. Her hair was a bit big as well. This is the amazing Whitney Houston:
The last time I wrote about my Top 50 was back on December 11th, 2010. Let's review the last few. 20) Journey 19) Buckcherry 18) Rihanna 17) Cinderella Yes, I love 80's music, especially 80's so-called hair metal. Continuing that trend is the Scorpions, they come in at #16. They are down 1 place from my first Top 50 list. I have 33 of their songs on my iTunes.
Here are some of their great songs. Yes I will include a few obvious videos, but I try to have at least 1 or 2 more obscure songs.
This song is a true classic rock song (not to be confused with "classic rock"). That in spite of it being one of the most misogynistic songs and videos ever. But if it was too smart, it wouldn't be rock and roll. Would it? "Rock You Like A Hurricane":
I don't know how obscure this song is, but when people talk about the Scorpions this song doesn't get a lot of mentions. "Still Loving You" is such a great, great song:
I don't know what you would call it, but I love the churning sound in the middle of the song. The excellent "The Zoo":
There are some amazing looking women in "Big City Nights" and it's another great song:
"Loving You Sunday Morning":
15) Lady Gaga, I have 34 of her songs on my iTunes. Yes, I know many people are offended by her. Many of these videos are unneedlessly provocative. She's weird and freaky and she does use a lot of sex to sell her music. Yes, all those things do bother me. However one thing you can't deny about her is how amazing her songs are. She also has a pretty amazing voice. Of all the debuts from my first list to this list, she's the second highest debut. Lady Gaga, if she continues at this pace, could possibly be #1 on my list in a few years. She just has some of the most amazing, catchy songs ever. I will start off with the most amazing, "Bad Romance" (it has 339 million listens on youtube!):
The following video "only" has almost 63 million listens, "Poker Face":
"Paparazzi":
"Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)":
I love, love this song. "The Fame":
"Just Dance":
This is allegedly her new song, "Born This Way":
I'm not quite sure what this is, but it's hilarious:
