Jerry Sloan, Under appreciated song of the day

Hello,

News reports coming out of Salt Lake City indicate that Jerry Sloan will announce his retirement today at a 5:00pm press conference. That's shocking news as he just barely signed a contract a couple of days ago to coach one more year. This is a job that I think that Sloan could have had as long as he wanted. However it definitely is a time for a change. The Jazz reminded me of Albert Einstein's famous saying of insanity "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

Apparently everything came to a head last night when Deron Williams called his own play, ignoring Sloan's play. Also the Jazz losing and not looking good doing so probably didn't help either. The players are equally or more guilty, they just haven't been playing with a spark.

After the game Sloan kept the reporters waiting for a half-hour as he met with assistants and Kevin O' Connor, the Jazz's General Manager. Sloan said last night there's no need for panic. There isn't? The Jazz keep on playing their mediocre brand of basketball year after year. They usually win more than they lose but are quickly eliminated from the playoffs. They are the heartbreak kings. It seems every year there's a time where they get my hopes up only to crush them later in the season. I guess if the team is satisfied with this sort of play each season, then there's no need for panic. However if they are wanting to win a title, which is a long shot in the best of circumstances, it's time for a big change. I would prefer two or three great years every 10 years, rather than this monotonous mediocrity every year.

Of course the Jazz have already made some moves to become a better team. They surgically removed the cancer known as Carlos Boozer. He was back in town last night, not really making any Jazz fan long for his services. His first shot was blocked by Paul Milsap, that's just so right. He missed 10 of 16 shots and only scored 14 points. I'm so glad it's the Bulls who are paying him $85 for 5 years. The Jazz did the right thing in letting him go. I believe if he would have remained with the Jazz, things would even be worse with the Jazz. The Jazz then traded for Al Jefferson, which I think has been a good move. I wish the Jazz could have kept Kyle Korver though, they really miss his outside shooting. They also miss him and his scoring on their second unit.

Now am I going to criticize Sloan in this post? No. In fact I'm going to thank Jerry Sloan for all his hard work through the years. Thanks Coach Sloan for taking the Jazz to back to back NBA finals in the 90's. Thanks for all the good memories through the years. If he really does retire, it will be a sad day in some ways. I would also urge the Jazz to retire a uniform in his honor asap. Thanks Coach Sloan.

Apparently Jazz assistant coach, Tyrone Corbin, is going to take over the head coaching position. It will be nice to see someone younger and with different perspectives to coach the team. Will he do better than Coach Sloan, honestly I'm doubtful about that. However he will bring fresh blood to the Jazz and I'm guessing this is essentially a try out to become the full time Jazz coach. This change would also bring some excitement to the Jazz. I'm actually excited for the Jazz's next game they will played. It will be interesting to see how they do against Phoenix.

Now are the Jazz done with their changes? I hope not. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this Jazz team is missing some key ingredient. The Jazz also need to make some kind of player move before the trading deadline in a couple of weeks. The moribund Jazz need to bring some excitement to their team. I can't think of a player or players that will do that. It would have to be someone young that could compliment both Williams and Jefferson.

Under appreciated song of the day, the Gaslight Anthem's "The '59 Sound". This is a great song, but they haven't lived up to all the hype they have received. But this song kicks butt:
