Season 12 "American Idol" Is A Train Wreck, Great 80's songs

Hello,

Season 12 of the bloated reality TV series known as "American Idol" debuted last night. Thankfully I didn't have the misfortune to watch it. But just reading the comments on ew.com, the show has clearly turned into a train wreck. I'm actually tempted to watch it now, just to see how bad it is.

Ever sense the show has focused on the judges, "AI" has gone downhill. Jennifer Lopez got people's attention because she's so gorgeous. People give her a chance before eventually tuning out. But Steven Tyler, a person that has turned into a parody of himself, who cares what he thinks? Those two left and Fox muffed it's chance to return the focus to the contestants. They went out and got two divas to juice the show's flagging ratings.  Some idiot at Fox thought it would be a good idea to pay Mariah Carey $18 million to be a judge this season. Great singer, but I could care less what she has to say.

Before I stopped watching "American Idol" I tuned in to watch unknown singers grow as the season goes along. Not only the Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson superstar contestants either. I loved Alexis Grace, Megan Joy, Miranda and still follow them to see what they are doing now.

Instead Fox in their infinite wisdom decided to increase the drama factor in a desperate attempt to get people to watch this season. But again after one night the reviews are withering. The following is from Fox's person in charge of their "reality" TV. If you want to learn how to speak in corporate bs, he's the main to show you the way.

“The needle is not moved by the name of the judge but how they perform on the show,” Darnell concludes. “And these guys are performing incredible. Some years you don’t have anything to talk about it. Sometimes you have a lot of word of mouth and I think that’s what’s going on. You can feel it. There’s a lot of buzz in the air.”

Who exactly is performing incredible? He talks about word of mouth. That's true there's a lot of word of mouth about the arguments between Carey and Nicki Minaj. The show doesn't even pretend to be about the singers any more. The producers are so desperate to keep this show relevant, that they've created this fake drama between the two divas. Don't give into Fox's desperate attempt to keep this show on the air.

I also have to laugh when Darnell says there's a lot of buzz in the year. Um Mike, yes there's a lot of buzz. Too bad all the buzz is bad. The show continues to shed viewers by the millions. And after only one night of season 12, they've alienated many of their few remaining ardent fans. Again I hope the ratings are so bad that they have to cancel this show in the middle of the season.

Sadly reality TV shows seem to be alive and well, but the singing shows are clearly on the way out.

Yesterday I wrote about 3 radio stations in the local Salt Lake area that play a bunch of 80s songs. The stations are Rewind 100.7, KBER 100.1 and Rock 103.5 The Arrow. I have all three radio stations next to each other on my car stereo presets. Obviously they played a lot more songs at night. In the morning the radio stations feature a lot of talk. Jon Carter and Bob and Tom or music? Which would I rather listen to? Please!

Anyway here's some of the songs I heard to and from work the last couple of days. One song I heard is my favorite Eddie Money song, which features fantastic guest Roni Spector. Of course it's "Take Me Home Tonight":

They also played this Eddie Money classic:

They also played two classics from Huey Lewis and The News. From one of the best movies ever "Back To The Future", this is "The Power of Love":

Also played was the song that introduced America to Huey Lewis and the News. "Do You Believe In Love":

Also a song that almost literally I can't get sick of, Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2":

From one of my favorite movies ever, the original "Footloose". Also it has one of the best soundtracks ever. This is Kenny Loggins "Footloose":

An 80's band in my opinion that didn't get enough love is "Lovin' Every Minute Of It":

They also played The Mighty Zep's "Fool In The Rain", STP's "Plush" and BEP's "Let's Get It Started".
