(Finished September 6th, 2017) themusicaddict's Review of Night Ranger's "Don't Let Up"

Hello,

While looking into information about Night Ranger, I noticed that Warrant also had a new CD. "Louder Harder Faster" was released several weeks after "Don't Let Up".  "Louder" is the kind of CD from a band that's usually trying to claim their glory days. While overall Warrant's CD isn't a great CD, it does have some good songs on it. The highlights include "Devil Dancer", "Music Man" and "Big Sandy".  This is the kind of CD made for iTunes, buy the few good songs and leave everything else behind.

I'd completely forgotten that Jani Lane had died, these are the current members of Warrant:

  • Erik Turner – rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica (1984–present) Note: Erik Turner was absent from Warrant for periods during 1997–98 and May 2003
  • Jerry Dixon – bass guitar, backing vocals (1984–present)
  • Steven Sweet – drums, percussion, backing vocals, harmonica (1986–94, 2004–present)
  • Joey Allen – lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo, harmonica, talk box (1987–94, 2004–present)
  • Robert Mason – lead vocals, acoustic guitar (2008–present)

Whereas with Night Ranger, I'd buy the entire CD. On March 4th, 2017 Night Ranger released their most recent CD, "Don't Let Up". Night Ranger, best known for "Sister Christian", "You Can Still Rock In America" and "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", was a mid-tier 80's band. In fact Night Ranger didn't even make my Top 106 Greatest 80's era bands, which may or may not be an omission. This is their first CD since 2014's "High Road".

"Don't Tell Me You Love Me":

This is their first very good CD since 1985's "Seven Wishes". "Wishes" was highlighted by "Four In The Morning", "Sentimental Street" and "Goodbye". Usually once an 80's band popular days are done, great CDs are hard to find. Usually I don't even listen to CDs from an 80's band past their glory days.

How does Night Ranger sound in 2017? "Sentimental Street":

But as I'm always on the outlook for good new music, even if it's by old bands, so I googled best new CDs of 2017. One of the CDs that came up was "Don't Let Up". (Sadly the CD by Chastity Belt wasn't as good as the band name.) I've now listened to this CD a couple of times and quite like it. Unless you are related to a member of Night Ranger or a hard core, it's quite likely you'd never hear of this CD. While my blog gets very few page views, I thought I would use my limited readership to increase visibility for this CD.

Overall I give this CD a solid 8, on a scale from 1 to 10. Some of this CD's best songs include "Somehow Someday", "Running Out of Time" and "Nothing Left of Yesterday".

I'm a big fan of "Don't Let Up" and will be adding to my collection very soon. I suggest you do the same.

The current lineup of Night Ranger:

  • Jack Blades – bass guitar, lead and backing vocals
  • Kelly Keagy – drums, percussion, backing and lead vocals
  • Brad Gillis – lead and rhythm guitars, backing vocals
  • Eric Levy – keyboards, piano, backing vocals
  • Keri Kelli – lead and rhythm guitars, backing vocals

They even made a video for this song. Other than Youtube where can you see videos now? 1) "Somehow Someway":
