Hello,
As a hard core sports fan I never want to hear the word "collapse" associated with one of my teams. Just in the last couple of weeks, I've heard "collapse" in regards to three of my teams. First Atlanta and Boston give up big leads in the playoff race with both being eliminated from playoff contention on the last day of the regular season. The repercussions have already hit Boston. Now yesterday as I was watching the Dallas-Detroit game I was imagining a 3-1 Cowboys start. But the Tony Romo curse stuck again and Dallas became my third team to collapse recently. Tony Romo choked yet again. Dirk Nowitski now has defended Romo. Nowitski was a perennial choker until he and his team peaked at the right time to win a title. I think that what Cowboys fans are hoping will happen with Romo. Usually after a loss I feel some sadness, after this loss I was left unsurprised. Nothing shocks me with Romo or the Cowboys anymore.
Of course it was not all Romo's fault, what was going on with that Dallas defense. I was dreaming all game what would have the Cowboys look like if they only had signed Nmadi Asomugha. I got sick of Calvin Johnson overwhelming ineffective cornerbacks and safeties.
There were poor decisions made by Jason Garrett yesterday. Why did he challenge the play when the Dallas receiver was marked down at the 1. It would have been 1st and goal on the 1 yard line. If Dallas can't score a touchdown from there they should be ashamed of themselves. And in fact after the challenge was ruled correct on the field, the very next play Dallas scored easily. That cost them a timeout they sorely needed later in the game. Then with Detroit having the ball with a little over 2 minutes left why did the Cowboys let the clock run to the 2 minute mark. Why didn't they call a time out at about 2:03 left. That way they could have got back the timeout when they incorrectly challenged the call. No they let the clock run down to 2:00.
The scary thing is the clueless Jerry Jones. He said something to the effect that the Dallas Cowboys are going to rise and fall with Tony Romo. According to espn.com this is exactly what Jones said, ""If you're going to try to make some plays, then you're going to have some bad plays. As Tony goes, we'll go." What he failed to say was "or don't go". Didn't he say words to that effect about head coach Wade Phillips last season, how did that work out Jerry? Romo will probably be the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys until 2013 which is when his contract finally runs out. Oh good three more seasons of him. There's no guarantee that they would get a better quarterback, but shouldn't they at least try? What would it take to get Carson Palmer out of Cincinnati?
Also Dallas can you please cut Martellus Bennet already? He's a terrible player, he's lazy and injury prone. Also I don't even think he wants to play in the NFL. This is what Grantland.com's Bill Barnwell says about Bennet: "At least one of the incompletions was dropped by the consistently awful Martellus Bennett."
It's one thing to bet on the bad horse every once-in-a-while, but to stick with the bad horse even after he has lost many times is ridiculous. That's what Jones and the Cowboys are doing. First they did it with Wade Phillips and now they are doing it with Tony Romo. If Dallas was doing everything they could to win but still losing that's one thing. But since they've stuck by this quarterback who has choked so many times that's completely another thing. Three more years of mediocrity here we come!
I know everyone is jumping on the Detroit Lions bandwagon, not me, but don't worry they are still the Lions. If they make the playoffs they won't be making a lot of noise.
Romo's continual meltdowns, Garret's continued bad decisions and Jones lame ownership are three reasons why I've seriously considered switching allegiance to the 49ers or the Bucs. San Francisco is now 3-1 and beat the Eagles yesterday 24-23 in Philadelphia. The Eagles also had their own collapse. Where is this "dream team" I heard about in the preseason? Also the Bucs should get a win tonight over the Colts, who are without Peyton Manning for who knows how long. The Colts have done too little to surround Manning with more good players. Why haven't they got an effective running back the last few years? Now that Manning can't play is anyone surprised that the Colts are 0-3 and will be 0-4 after tonight's game?
Finally one more thing. Yeah Green Bay I know you are rolling, but isn't it time for Aaron Rodgers to retire the stupid post touchdown championship belt celebration? That's so 5 minutes ago. (Thanks "Can't Buy Me Love").
Here are some good songs for your rocking pleasure.
The amazing Pearl Jam in all their glory. They are definitely a band meant to be seen live. Long live Pearl Jam on their 20th anniversary. (Some of the language will offend some people.) "Save You":
William Shatner, with Ben Folds help, "Common People":
Speaking of Ben Folds, here's him and his band, singing "Song For The Dumped". Again this song will offend a few people.
Another unhappy song from Ben Folds Five:
I woke up this morning with this song on my mind. Is the universe trying to tell me something? I don't think so either.
An all-time classic from Simon and Garfunkel:
From an all-time classic to a modern classic. This is easily one of the best songs of the last several years. Her heartbreak leads to great music for us. It's also a great song to exercise too.
