(Finished July 31st, 2021) Part 1 of The Best of the First 100 Videos Ever Played on MTV

Hello,

Kids today will never understand the impact that MTV had on pop culture of the early 80s. It was part of a broader phenomena called cable TV. At the time we were basically expanding from just a few channels to a whole lot more. There were some shows that showed music videos, but no more than a few hours a day. MTV was truly ground breaking, showing music videos 24 hours day. Like a bright light in a dark space MTV brought music into our front rooms.

I spent many a hour, especially during the summer,  watching MTV. It was quite easily to while away an afternoon watching MTV. Even though there were dozens of other channels a lot of those didn't have much programming. All MTV needed was videos. Once it broke out and people started becoming famous then people happily provided their own programming (videos).

The stars of the first few days of MTV were Rod Stewart, April Wine, Pat Benatar, REO Speedwagon, Styx and The Pretenders. As much as possible I posted the original video that played 40 years ago.

The first couple of hours of Day 1 of MTV:

Sadly after a few years MTV decided to expand their programming and add actual shows to their lineup. One of the first shows was the game show turned on it's head, "Remote Control". The show hasn't aged well, but this show was pretty funny back in the day. Shout out to Kari Wuhrer:

Hello,

From Gibbons' first band, The Moving Sidewalks, to ZZ Top through to his solo work. Also including the best of his one off projects. We're both in for a treat.

Hello,

Why does taking a great song and adding a rock feel to it make the great song even better? I don't really know the answer to that question. It's even better when the band remaking the song puts their own spin on that song and not a note for note recreation.
