What is both the best and worst thing in life? What is the thing that can take you to the greatest heights but also make you feel the lowest of the low? Well of course it's love. There are all sorts of love: romantic, love of a friend, love of children, love of self and love of one's country. Sometimes love isn't even love, the word love can be a stand by for other things. Many times in modern pop culture when people say love they mean sex. I have no connection to the Apple series "1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything". However I started watching the 8 episode season tonight and reliving all that history and great music. I'll use this series as an inspiration for this blog. 1971 was a weird year in many away. One of the biggest artists of that year was The Osmonds. I was only 4 that year so I didn't have an opinion, but my opinion I'm sure would not have been that high. Looking back now I'm still shocked. Happy New Year!!

This is another blog inspired by music from "Reacher". Oscar Finlay is a man that loves a good old 80s rock jam, meanwhile Reacher is more of a Blues guy. Two different blog series have been inspired by music from "Reacher". First it was classic ballads inspired by "Crazy". Now it's mostly great 80s rock inspired by "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Caught Up In You". I so love hearing these songs again, they bring back so many memories. Thankfully most of those memories are great.

Now my definition of classic rock is not your typical classic rock definition. First of all I hate the phrase classic rock- all rock music is just rock. I include in these series of blogs songs that rock, but aren't your standard rock music you'd hear on classic rock radio. (I typed those last three words with my head in a barf bag.) If a song has rock lyrics I consider it a rock song.

And don't most rock songs, if they stay relevant long enough, become a classic rock song?

Sure this song is silly, but it's not a terrible song. The worst thing about this song is that it's a very catchy earworm. 36) Bobby McFerrin "Don't Worry, Be Happy":

When I saw that title I thought to myself that sounded like a Meat Loaf/ Jim Steinman collaboration. Sure enough their version was released two years previously. It didn't chart for Meat Loaf, but went to #18 for Barry Manilow. 38) Barry Manilow "Read 'Em and Weep":

Not sure why Ranker listed this song for the 80s when the original wasn't released until 1995. The Fork version wasn't released until 2005 and no I had no clue that version even existed. Okay I have to admit this isn't the best song, but it's very much a song of it's time. The 1985 Chicago Bears could do anything but sing.

Just as fervently as I agree with some of their choices I also disagree with some of their choices. Currently I'm working on my Top 100 Songs of All-Time and honorable mentions. There are just some songs that I can't not include in the Greatest Songs of All-Time. I started with 100 Greatest Songs of All-Time.
