These are bands of any decade, the key thing being a band that was great but has been consigned to the trash heap of history. One band that I really love is The Knack, known most for "My Sharona". But I have written about them so many times so I'm not going to write about them here.
The third band up is Veruca Salt, yes named after a character from "Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory". They also quote a line from an AC/DC song for their debut CD "American Thighs".
