Hello,
What makes a great song? Well to typically be a classic song you need a combination of great music and great lyrics. But it's easier to be a great song with great music than great lyrics. But the combination of both is an amazing combination.
1) Michael Jackson "Man In The Mirror":
I'm gonna make a change
For once in my life
It's gonna feel real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right
As I, turn up the collar on
My favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin' my mind
I see the kids in the street
With not enough to eat
Who am I, to be blind pretending not to see their needs?
2) Lacy J. Dalton "16th Avenue":
Ah, but one night in some empty room
Where no curtains ever hung
Like a miracle some golden words
Rolled off of someone's tongue
And after years of being nothing
They're all looking right at you
And for a while they'll go in style
On 16th Avenue
Well, your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There's a fire starting in my heartFinally I can see you crystal clearGo 'head and sell me out and I'll lay your ship bareDon't underestimate the things that I will doThere's a fire starting in my heart
What a powerful song. 5) Lauren Daigle "Still Rolling Stones":
Out of the shadows
Bound for the gallows
A dead man walking
'Til love came calling
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)
Six feet under
I thought it was over
An answer to prayer
The voice of a Savior
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)
Bound for the gallows
A dead man walking
'Til love came calling
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)
Six feet under
I thought it was over
An answer to prayer
The voice of a Savior
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)
I know it breaks your heart
Moved to the city in a broke-down car, and
Four years, no calls
Now you're looking pretty in a hotel bar, and
I-I-I can't stop
No, I-I-I can't stop
So, baby, pull me closer
In the back seat of your Rover
That I know you can't afford
Bite that tattoo on your shoulder
7) The Cranberries "Zombie":
Another head hangs lowlyChild is slowly takenAnd the violence, caused such silenceWho are we mistaken? But you see, it's not meIt's not my familyIn your head, in your head, they are fightingIn your head, in your head they are crying
8) U2 "One":
Have you come here for forgivenessHave you come to raise the deadHave you come here to play JesusTo the lepers in your headDid I ask too muchMore than a lotYou gave me nothingNow it's all I gotWe're oneBut we're not the sameWe hurt each otherThen we do it againYou sayLove is a templeLove a higher lawLove is a templeLove the higher lawYou ask me to enterBut then you made me crawlAnd I can't be holding onTo what you gotWhen all you got is hurt
Well I tried to make it sunday, but I got so damn depressed10) Lauryn Hill "Doo Wop (That Thing)":
Girlfriend, let me break it down for you again
You know I only say it cause I'm truly genuine
Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem
Baby girl, respect is just a minimum
You know I only say it cause I'm truly genuine
Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem
Baby girl, respect is just a minimum
I love the "cup of ambition" line and well how the whole start of those lyrics work with the music. 11) Dolly Parton "9 to 5":
Tumble outta bed
And I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
And yawn and stretch and try to come to life
Jump in the shower
And the blood starts pumpin'
Out on the streets
The traffic starts jumpin'
With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5
