The Continual Free Throw Misadventures of Dwight Howard.

Hello,

I've mocked Dwight Howard quite a bit for his terrible free throw shooting. I don't understand someone making $19.5 million a year is so bad at something so basic. Howard started out hot from the free throw line last night, he made 3 of his first 4 free throws. Sadly for the Lakers, it was not to last. He only made 2 of his final 6 free throws. With LA trailing most of the night, his poor free throw shooting made it even harder for the Lakers to come back. Howard's 5 of 10 free throw shooting last night lowered his free throw shooting to .535 on the season.

I looked at his career stats, expecting to see Howard always has been a horrible free throw shooter. I was surprised to see that he actually shot .671 from the free throw line as a rookie. For the following six years, he shot around a .590 percentage. Then last season he sunk to an abysmal .491 free throw shooting percentage. His free throw shooting percentage is surprising as shouldn't he be a better free throw shooter the longer he plays in the NBA?

Howard's Lakers hilariously lost again last night to fall to 0-3 on the season. The last time the Lakers started out 0-3 was the '78-'79 season. But fellow Lakers haters I suggest you enjoy it now. The Lakers have just too much talent to continue to play so badly. If the Lakers start out 0-10 then maybe they should start to worry. I do think Mike Brown is in over his head as head coach. His choosing to run the Princeton offense is a bit mystifying. That offense is usually for teams with less talent. I have no idea why Brown chooses to run it. Then predictably Kobe decides to take over the game and starts jacking up shots. But oh well, I enjoy watching the Lakers lose.

Another team that I enjoy watching losing is the Knicks and the vastly overrated Carmelo Anthony. I love how much praise he gets for scoring 30 points in their first game. He shot 28 field goals, including 8 three pointers. Anthony also shot 7 free throws. (For comparison sakes: Bryant shot 23 field goals, including 3 three pointers. Bryant also made all 10 of his free throw shots. Bryant finished with 40 points.) With Anthony shooting the ball that many times, shouldn't he have at least 30 points? After the game Anthony said:

"So today was something to give New York a couple hours of some peace. Come to the game, support us. We gave them a good show out there tonight, that's the least that we can do."

The Knicks and Hurricane Sandy have a lot in common. They both blow a lot for one. Knicks fans enjoy this victory, because this will be another average year for the Knicks. If the Knicks do make the playoffs they'll be eliminated in the first round. Of course, that's something Knicks fans are used to. Teams with me first stars just aren't going to win NBA titles.

With a lot of the off season conversation being about the new flopping rules, I'm glad to see that topic hasn't come up very much so far this season. In fact the only comments I've heard about it has to do about the actual rule itself. I haven't had to see any highlights, from multiple angles, of alleged flopping. Can we please keep that up?

Last, but certainly not least, I watched the last several minutes of the Arsenal-Man U match today. Sadly Man U won 2-1. That wasn't much of a surprise to me as this continues to be a down season for the Gunners. However the goal scored by Santi Cazorla in injury time was a thing of beauty.
